Review and Preliminaries:

Before we will proceed to the proper discussion of our

lesson for this day, let’s have first a recap of the lessons
we had discussed.
What was our lesson last meeting?
It was all about the Background of the study sir.

Very Good!
In writing the background of the study there are three
elements to be consider. Now, are those three elements? The problem itself, the methods in solving the
problem and the purpose of the study.
Very Good!
Now, what are the different techniques in writing the
research introduction? Deficiencies Model
T.I.O.C. Approach
Inverted Pyramid Approach

Very Good!
Last meeting we also discusses the Theoretical
framework.
Ok, what are the three easy steps in writing the theoretical
framework of the study? First is, examine the research problem and consider
the key variable. Second, review the related
literature, And lastly, discuss the theory.

Very Good!

Presentation of the session Objectives

For this session, we will be discussing the next part of
writing a research paper which is the SOP or what we
called the statement of the Problem. Hence, in this lesson
you are expected to:
Everybody read……
1. define statement of the problem; (knowledge)
2. formulate research questions based on the given
research titles; (skill)
3. states research questions; (skill)
4. differentiate descriptive and inferential questions;
(knowledge)
5. express appreciation of the importance of a well written
statement of the problem in conducting a research
study; (Values)

Diagnostic Assessment
Before we will begin our lesson for today, let’s first test
your knowledge on the SOP through a test-activity. This
activity will serve as a diagnostic test in order for me to
know if you have some ideas and how far you have
learned of this lesson. Through this, I will be able to
diagnose you as for my basis for further discussion. Are
we ready?

Activity: Enchant Words: Knowing the Research SOP

Direction: Say “Avesala” if the given statement is true
and “Pashnea” if otherwise false.
Are we all set? Let’s get into it!

1. In writing a problem statement it can help the

researcher put the topic into context and will have a
deeper understanding of its significance.
2. Statement of the problem should not always address
the relevance of the research; why is it important to
resolve the problem? Avesala!
3. One of the purposes of the statement of the problem is
to describe the substantive focus of the research study. Pashnea!
4. To frame it as a practical problem and thereby, develop
its significance is one of the purposes of statement of
the problem. Avesala!
5. A clear and straight forward statement of the problem
will inform and impress the reader in grasping the
issues that your proposed research will address. Avesala!
6. To be able to forecast the literature to be discussed in
the second section, limitations of the study should not
be included in the statement of the problem. Avesala!
7. The statement of the problem is the heart and soul of
your research.
8. SOP is consists of two parts, the general problem and
the specific problem. Pashea!
9. Descriptive questions are the one that aims to
quantitatively describe a variable.
10. Inferential questions are the one that aim to determine
the significant relationship or significant differences of Avesala!
a variable.

Establishing the purpose of the Lesson
ENGAGE : Motivation (Priming Activity) Avesala!
Okay class for this morning we will be going to watch an
inspirational short video clip entitled “The unschooled
Mother teaching her daughter to Question the world”. Avesala!
Please analyse the scenario in the video and later I will be
asking questions and you will share your responses and
insights based on the video that you have been watched.

Questions for Processing:

1. What was the video all about?
2. What was the problem of the child? Question
3. Knowing that the child problem was the pineapple ice
cream was not saleable, what was the mother ask her
daughter to do?

products. The daughter was trying her best by
investigating and searching solutions for her not

different approaches and marketing strategies on
selling it by observing some vendor on how to
attract customers.

Since our lesson for today sir is all about stating

Very Good! the research problem, we can connect and relate it
Asking question/s was the first step in solving and to the way the child solve her problem by asking
addressing our problems. Just like in doing a research, questions first, just like, “why the pineapple ice
we need to have a clear and well- formulated statement cream was not saleable?”, “how can I attract
of the problem as it sets the stage for the rest of our customers in buying my product?”, “what
study including how we will address the problem and approaches and marketing strategies I should do to
anticipate the outcomes or answers we investigated. increase my sales?” and etc.

Do I make myself clear?

EXPLORE
Before we will be going to discuss the lesson for today’s
session, let’s have first another activity.
This activity is called “Tanong mo, Ibato Mo!”
I will present some random pictures and what you will do
is to identify this one and formulate question/s based on the
depicted image you have seen.

Questions for Processing: Yes Sir.

1. What was the picture all about?
2. What question/s can you create in these pictures?
3. Are these 2 pictures has significant relationship to
each other?
4. Based on the question/s you have formulated, what do
you think was the problem depicted in these images?

EXPLAIN
Okay class, this time we will be going to have an activity.
I will be dividing the class into 4 groups that will
represents sa mga kaharian ng Engkantadia namely
kaharian ng Lireo, Sapiro, Adamya and Hathorya.

All of you class were the sanggres of these kaharian,

What you will do is to read and analyze each info-
statement present in each door.

In order to open these doors we will need the mga hiyas ng

engkantadia which were the “Briyantes”.

Under you armchairs were the symbols of these brilyantes,

detached this symbols and go to your respective na mga
kaharian.

You will be graded according to this rubric.

I will be giving you 10 minutes to do the task and

afterwards, the group will choose representatives to discuss
it to the class.

Do I make myself clear?

Yes Sir!
Discussion here on crafting the Statement of the
Problem. (develop HOTS)

Group 1 (Kaharian ng Lireo)

What is Statement of the Problem?

• The statement of a problem defines and
describes the research question/s, along
with the broad method that will be used to
solve the problem.
• A well- formulated statement of the
problem sets the stage for the rest of our
study, including how we will address the
problem and any anticipated outcomes or
answers.

Why SOP is important?

• Once you have very clear laid out the core
issue, problem or question that you’re
investigating, you’ll have a much sharper
focus for conducting and writing up the
rest of your study. A clear and straight
forward statement will also inform and
impress your reader in grasping the issues
that your proposed research will address.
• The Statement of the Problem is coined to
be the ‘heart and soul’ of your research. It
becomes your guiding post for future

actions.
• The Statement of the problem consists of
questions and differences of the variables.
• The answer to the questions may be
gathered through the instrument, which
includes interviews, questionnaires or other
data gathering methods.
_________________________________________
Group 2 (Kaharian ng Sapiro)

Parts of the Statement of the Problem

• The Statement of the Problem consists of 2
parts: The general problem and the
specific problem.
• The general problem is consists of a
sentence or sentences as opening of your
statement of the problem. It mirrors what
you have stated or written in your research
title.
• General problem involves stating the main
research problem or it deals with stating
the core issue of your research.
• General problem is in declarative sentence
form.
• You may start with the following phrases:
- The aim of this study is to determine…..
- This research paper aims to explore ……
- This study wants to investigate ……..

Research Title: “Dengue Knowledge and

Degree of Environmental Responsibility of
Senior High School students”

Steps in writing the general problem:

1. Look for the variables of the study
which is presented in the research title.
2. Consider the respondents or
participants of your study.
3. State the research locale of the study.

Presentation of Example here:

Research Title: “Dengue Knowledge and
Degree of Environmental Responsibility of
Senior High School students”.

Statement of the Problem (General

problem)
The study aims to determine the
relationship of dengue knowledge and the
degree of environmental responsibility of
Senior High School students of Bayugan
City Senior High School SY 2023-2024.

Group 3 (Kaharian ng Adamya)

Specific Problem and its types

• Specific problem is sometimes called as
the Research questions.
• Specific problem should help answer the
objectives, directions and goals of your
study. This is reflected in your research
title.
• Research questions are in interrogative or
questions form or they end in question
mark.
• Go back to the variables of the study.
• Research questions are questions that a
study or research project aims to answer.
These questions often address an issue or a
problem, which through analysis and
interpretation of data are answered in the
study conclusion.

 Types of Specific problem (Research

Questions)
 Descriptive questions
 Inferential questions

 Descriptive questions
A descriptive question is one that aims to
quantitatively describe a variable with the aid of
descriptive statistics such as (frequency count,
percentage, mean, average and etc.)

Steps in writing the descriptive questions:

1. Consider the respondents/ participants of
the study. (What question/s might ask that
may help the researchers find the answer).
2. Go back to the variables of the study.
(What question/s of measurement might
ask that may help the researchers find the
answer).
Please Take note:
 Forms of Measurement in Mathematics
(Level, degree, extent, intensity etc.)
 Write question first to the 1st variable,
then followed by the second variable.
