1. Introduction
Home automation is one of the domains in which the Internet of Things (IoT) is having one of
the most significant impacts, and it is one of the ways in which it is redefining how we work and
live. The concept of "smart houses," in which a residence is outfitted with various linked gadgets
that can be managed and automated via the use of a smartphone or another device, is gaining
widespread adoption. The Internet of Things makes it possible to build "smart homes" by linking
various equipment and gadgets to the internet, facilitating their ability to interact with one
another, and providing an infrastructure for home automation. Homeowners may regulate and
automate everything from the lighting and temperature to the management of energy and security
with the assistance of the internet of things (IoT) (Bands, 2023).
Control of the many home devices is performed from one centralised location via the home
animation. Today's realities include the reality that more and more tasks are being done
automatically with each passing day. In most cases, the fundamental responsibilities of turning
on or off a specific equipment and other related activities, either remotely or in close proximity.
Utilization of the underlying wireless data network, such as IEEE 802.11, is the core idea behind
the RF-based system (Wi-Fi). In recent years, there has been a rise in the use of wireless
networks in the house. Additionally, recent advancements in computer technology have made it
possible for personal digital devices to typically have the capacity of communicating via a
wireless network. As a result, using an RF-based location determination system to estimate the
position of a personal digital device inside the confines of a domestic setting that supports high
data transfer rates and may be capable of accommodating multimedia applications is an option
that should be considered.
There are a lot of different applications that might be employed, and one of them is a wireless
network for home automation. Imagine a private home that is outfitted with motion light
temperature and other sensor actuators for opining the door dimming lights with a remote control
as complex as setting up a network of items in your home (such as thermostat, security system
lighting and appliances) that can be programmed using a main controller. This type of home
automation system is known as smart home technology. The term "smart home technology"
refers to this particular kind of home automation system. The fundamental idea behind home
automation is the utilisation of sensors and control systems to monitor the abode in order to make
appropriate adjustments to the numerous mechanisms that are responsible for providing services
such as heat, ventilation, lighting, and other similar services. This is accomplished in order to
make the abode as comfortable as possible for the people living there. The automated and
"intelligent" home has the potential to generate housing that is not only safer but also more
pleasurable and more cost-effective than traditional housing options (Gaurav Panwar, 2017).
The user interface of an intelligent home automation system can take many different forms.
These forms include a computer-based system, a mechanical switch, a single light, a loudspeaker
with a microphone, or a personal remote controller using a standard desktop, laptop, or tablet
computer and either a stand-alone piece of software or a web-based user interface. Other possible
user interfaces include a single light, a loudspeaker with a microphone, or a loudspeaker with
Soon, every piece of consumer electronics will be able to connect to the internet. The Internet of
Things (IOT) refers to the network of physical items or "Things" that are equipped with
electronics, software, sensors, and network connection. This provides the physical objects with
the ability to gather and exchange data. The Internet of Things (IoT) makes it possible for objects
to be remotely sensed and controlled over preexisting network infrastructure. This opens the door
to the possibility of a more direct integration between the real world and computer-based
systems, which in turn results in increased productivity, accuracy, and economic benefits
(Gaurav Panwar, 2017) (Pandey et al., 2017) ([Link] Vel, 2022).
1.1. How does IoT based system Works?
Source: (Shapel, 2022).
This project is taken because of the advanced technology that is emerging across the world.
Home automation is not a new project but using Internet of Things makes it more unique and
important. This is the project that I have supposed.
Following are the requirements of the Assignment 1 which have been met for the project in this
report.
2. Stakeholder plan
Throughout the course of the product development process, stakeholders need to be identified,
prioritized, and actively engaged in order to practice good stakeholder management.
Stakeholders are persons or groups that eventually play a big part in the life of a product, which
is why this aspect of product management is a crucial component. Stakeholders may either have
an influence on the success and execution of the product or on the product itself.
Following are the stakeholders of the project “Home Automation using IoT”.
Internal Stakeholders:
1. Internal customer (Home Owner)
2. Project management team for example project manager, resource manager etc.
3. Finance team
4. Technology team
External stakeholders
1. Government
2. Contractor and subcontractors
3. Suppliers
Above are the stakeholders of the project “Home Automation using IoT”.
Stakeholder such as Home owner need a successful project for his/her home and the remaining
stakeholders have duty to make the project successful. It will not only be beneficial for the
homeowner but will also be beneficial for other stakeholders.
Following is the stakeholders plan for the project.

4. Requirement plan
As I have mentioned the all the stakeholders that are involved directly or indirectly in the project
now, I have a requirement plan for this project. What things are required for the project. It
usually consists of a large document that contains all the requirement of the project.
ID Requirement description Requirement requested by
SL1 Smart lightning: Smart Home Owner
lighting for home helps in
saving energy by adapting the
life to the ambient condition
and switching on/off or
dimming the light when
needed
SA2 Smart Appliances: Smarter Home Owner
appliances that can be
remotely managed and
checked on by their owners
are becoming a reality.
This remote-controlled
washer and dryer set will let
you know when the cycle is
finished and can be operated
from anywhere.
Smart fridges can monitor
stock levels and notify their
owners when a necessary
item is running short.
I3 Intrusion Detection: Home Owner
Security cameras and sensors
are used by home intrusion
detection systems to monitor
the premises and sound
alarms should an intruder be
detected.
Upon receiving an alert, we
may notify the user by
sending them a text message
or email.
Detailed notifications,
including still images and
brief videos, may be sent
from more advanced systems.
S4 Smoke/gas detectors: Home Owner
Detecting smoke, an early
warning sign of a fire, is a
primary reason why smoke
detectors are put in homes
and businesses.
It can detect smoke by the use
of optical detection and
ionization for air sampling.
Hazardous gases including
carbon monoxide (CO),
liquid petroleum gas (LPG),
and others may be detected
using gas detectors.
A human voice may sound an
alarm, explaining the nature
of the issue and its location.
5. Requirement document
The requirement document provides the information about the project. The documents tells the
contractor to what to do and what not to do. It is prepared by internal stakeholders of the project
and it has following components:
Introduction: It is the general introduction about the home automation by using the Internet of
Things and will also tell the benefits and disadvantages of the project.
Purpose: The document will also tell the purpose of the project and scope of the project or
software that is going to be used in the project Home Automation by Using IoT. Here the
purpose of the project is to convert the simple home into a modern and full of technology home
where almost all things are working on internet such as smoke detectors, fire alarms, gas
detectors, smart lighting etc.
