1. Scope of use
‘The standard applies to conveyor belts with steel cords arranged in the longitudinal direction as +
conveyor belts for hosting and conveying
steel cord conveyor belts for underground coalmining with specific requirements for work safety)
gineering, see DIN 22 129 part I to 4
2, Belt structure
Conveyor belts according to this standard are made of steel cords surrounded by a layer of core rubber
and rubber covers. The thickness of covers is determined in accordance to requirements.
‘The covers may include textile (T) or metal (S) transverse reinforcement on order.

Prefer the values given in the marked field4.2 Cover
4.2.1 Thickness of covers
The thickness’of covers on the running side S; should not be less than the minimum value listed in
Table 2. Thicker covers can be used in the case of special requirements. The cover thickness on
the load-bearing side S; is the minimum value listed in Table 2 and the.allowance which can be
determined with consideration to values of various factors acc. to DIN 22 101
Ifthere is belt reinforcement embedded in the covers, thicker covers may be required.
4.2.2 Quality grades
The cover quality grades are determined correspondingly to the load resistance.
4.3 Belt thickness
The belt thickness s, results from the cord diameter d and the cover thickness values S; and S
‘The belt thickness may deviate from the dimension S; by +10%. The permissible deviation of
the thickness downward for the belts < 20 mm is 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm maximum at the belt
thickness > 20 mm. :
44 Belt length
The length of supplied belts may deviate from the ordered length by +2%. The number of unit
lengths and delivery forms are to be agreed on.
4.5 Belt edge
‘The edge width by cannot be less than 15 mm.

5, Requirements
5.1 The breaking foree of steel cords
The breaking force Fi, of the steel cord cured in the conveyor belt rubber must be at least as large
as the value calculated from the minimum breaking force of the conveyor belt and from the cord
pitch ace. to Table 2 with an allowance of approx 10%.

The steel cords must run in straight lines in the belt. The end distances between the cords (the
pitch) results from the location deviations of individual cords in the belt. It may be larger in the
‘maximum of 5% of the cords. The deviation of the belt load-bearing side from the calculated
value (7,~ I)-cannot exceed 1%.
The steel cords must run in one plane within the belt. The differences 41 (see DIN 22 131 part 3)
cannot exceed + 1.5 mm. A maximum of 5% of differences can exceed #1 mm,
5.3 The number and spacing of eord joints
‘The following conditions apply to individual single lengths:
a/ a maximum of 2% of the cords can be bonded
b/only one bonding per cord is allowed
/ the spacing between the bonds in the longitudinal direction must exceed 10m
54. Cord ripping force
The adhesion between the cord and the rubber is critical to the quality of the steel cord
conveyor belt and to the transfer of force at the connections of belts. The measure of adhesion
is the cord ripping force F 1

5.5 Cover quality grades

25% of the cord diameter d respectively on both sides of steel cords,

*) Flame-resistant belts acc. to DIN 22 103 with anti-static covers ace, to DIN 22 104
The values serve'Yo distinguish four types of cover materials with several charact
Other values, e.g. resistance to further tearing, can also serve as a basis of continued
evaluation.
The reliable conclusions concerning the actual (practical) behaviour of the lining, e.g. wear or
cutting resistance, cannot be draw only from those values.
¢5.6 Resistanee to delamination
The resistance to delamination 7 between the lining and the core layer of rubber must be at least
12 N/mm of the sample width
5.7 Ageing of covers
The average values of the breaking strength a the elongation at break ea, as well as the resistance
to delamination 7 after artificial ageing cannot be less than 25% of the unaged normal state.
5.8 Ability of trough forming
‘The ability of trough forming is the ratio of the sag f to the belt width B:

Amendments
The following amendments were made to harmonise with the issue of February 1965 withdrawn in
January 1986 and with DIN 22 131 p. 2/02.65:
a/ the nature of preliminary standard was removed
by the standard title was changed
¢/ Table | included
/ the number of belt types was expanded
e/ the cord ripping force was included
47 the quality grades of covers were changed
/ Marking was ineluded in DIN 22 131 part 2
hh Ordering data was included
Explanations
‘The design ofthe ST 1250 belt has been established in deviation from the withdrawn DIN 22 131
{102.65 standard to allow forthe I-level connection Hence it has been made compliant with DIN a
part
The corrosion of cords following damage of the conveyor belt can be delayed by penetration of
the cord by rubber.
