A GUIDE TO LEARNERS ABOUT PROJECT BASED LEARNING

Projects are a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and
challenges, develop ideas and come up with a helpful product while working in small
collaborative groups.
Why projects? We live in a volatile , uncertain , complex and ambiguous world(VUCA).
Projects teach us not just content, but also important skills to be able to survive in this VUCA
world. These skills include communication and presentation skills, organization and time
management skills, research and inquiry skills, self-assessment and reflection skills, group
participation and leadership skills, and critical thinking
Lower secondary curriculum demands every learner to do a project in every subject. These
project should be assessed by the teacher and the scores submitted to UNEB to contribute 10%
of the final mark. (note that a learner who has not been assessed in projects and AOI’s will not
be assessed at the end of S4).
Nature of new lower secondary projects.
Learners projects should be ; solving societal problems
Done in groups , though each learner is assessed individually
Be related to any theme in the subjects studied
Use readily available materials
Done in a period of less than a month
Skills to be developed/ assessed at different stages of the projects

or her product.
 experiment to test the effectiveness of
their product. expected challenges and
solutions predicted
