2.1 Overview TML

START-UP

When the PROBE is connected, the start-up display is (you must open the cover
to see it):

Then, the sensor will display the distance from the transducer face to the material
level (a wall for example) in the unit selected:

The graphic portion of the display gives you a visual indication of the Probe's
operating status. Viewing this graphic can help you to properly locate and
install the Probe.

CALIBRATION
The calibration principle is to have a low signal (4 mA) for a long distance
(empty pit) and a high signal (20 mA) for a short distance (full pit)
You have two possibilities to calibrate this sensor : calibration before
installation (easiest solution) or after installation, but for both you need to
know what is the distance from the sensor face to minimum level and from
sensor face to maximum level.

10 geoNEXT v2 - Sensor Setup

A) CALIBRATION BEFORE INSTALLATION

After connecting the sensor to the system, open the sensor's cover and
put the sensor front of a wall at the same distance that the minimum
level, for example :
Pit height : 3.50 m
Distance between maximum level and sensor's face : 0.50 m
For the minimum level, you must adjust the sensor at 4.00 m (3.50+0.50)
of the wall (you must be perpendicular to the wall). When you read 4.00
m on the sensor's display, press one time on "4", the signal graphic
disappear, press again on "4" and "c 4" on the display appear. After a
short moment the distance ,4.00 for this example, will be displayed. Now
for a distance of 4.00 meters the sensor's signal will be 4 mA. You can
calibrate your Geonext system.

For the maximum level, you must adjust the sensor at 0.50 m of the wall
(you must be perpendicular to the wall). When you read 0.50 m on the
sensor's display, press one time on "20", the signal graphic disappear,
press again on "20" and "c 20" on the display appear. After a short
moment the distance ,0.50 for this example, will be displayed. Now for a
distance of 0.50 meters the sensor's signal will be 20 mA. You can
calibrate your Geonext system.

B) CALIBRATION AFTER INSTALLATION

For this solution you must have a empty pit.
When your sensor is installed and connected, open the cover and read
the distance shows on the display. Press one time on "4", the signal
graphic disappear, press again on "4" and "c 4" on the display appear.
After a short moment the distance ,4.00 for this example, will be
displayed. Now for a distance of 4.00 meters the sensor's signal will be
4 mA. You can calibrate your Geonext system.
To simulate a full pit, put, front and perpendicular to the sensor's face,
a reflecting surface (a piece of cardboard box for example) at the same
distance the mud will be for a full pit (0.50 m for example). Press one
time on "20", the signal graphic disappear, press again on "20" and "c
20" on the display appear. After a short moment the distance ,0.50 for
this example, will be displayed. Now for a distance of 0.50 meters the
sensor's signal will be 20 mA. You can calibrate your Geonext system.

ADJUSTMENTS

You can adjust, on the sensor's keyboard, several things.

A) You can adjust the calibration by scrolling the distance for 4 or/and 20 mA.

12 geoNEXT v2 - Sensor Setup

To adjust the distance for 4 mA, depress simultaneously the "4" and "20"
keys.
When "c 4" is on display wait 3 seconds the sensor initialises the
calibration and shows you the value for 4 mA. You can change this value
by pressing "20" key to increase this value or "4" key to decrease this
value. Then you wait 6 seconds, time for the sensor to come back in
normal mode.
If you want to do the same for 20 mA you should depress two times to
both key to have "c 20" on display.

B) You can adjust the blank space.

You can change this distance if you have interference coming from the
pits' grid for example, and increase it to a distance greater than the
distance between the sensor's face and the bottom of the grid. To adjust
the blank space, depress simultaneously the "4" and "20" keys, three
times to get "b l" on display. When "b l" is on display wait 3 seconds the
sensor initialises the calibration and shows you the actual blank space
(0.25m by default). You can change this value by pressing "20" key to
increase this value or "4" key to decrease this value. Then you wait 6
seconds, time for the sensor to come back in normal mode.

This example shows you how to adjust the value from 0.25 to 0.40m

C) You can adjust the speed of response.

You have the possibility to select different speed to adapt the sensor to
the filling (or emptying) rate.
If the sensor measurement cannot keep up with the rate of level
change, set the adjustment from "1" to "2". If The Probe still cannot
keep us with the rate of level change, set the adjustment option to "3".

Avoid choosing an option that is too fast for your application.

The speed "1" is by default.

Agitator discriminator: discriminates between agitator blades in

motion and the material (target) surface.

Filter: discriminates between false echoes from

acoustical and electrical noise and the material (target) surface.
FLS (fail-safe) timer: establishes the "waiting" period from the
time a loss of echo or operating fault condition starts until the
fail-safe default is effected.

To adjust the speed, depress simultaneously the "4"and "20" keys, four
times to get "S P" on display. Then wait 3 seconds.
When the value appears on the display, you can change it by pressing
"20" to increase the value or "4" to decrease it.
When your choice is done wait 6 seconds, time for the sensor to come
back to the run mode.

D) You can adjust the fail-safe (FLS) status.

In case a loss of echo or fault condition exceeds the waiting period, the "?"
icon appears on sensor's display and one of the following fail-safe defaults
is immediately effected.

FLS '1' is by default.

Probe Level Sensor ( ultrasonic ) 15

To adjust the fail-safe, depress simultaneously the "4" and "20" keys,
five times to get "FLS" on display. Then wait 3 seconds.
When the value appears on the display, you can change it by pressing
"20" to increase the value or "4" to decrease it.
When your choice is done wait 6 seconds, time for the sensor to come
back to the run mode.

E) You can select the unit.

16 geoNEXT v2 - Sensor Setup

To adjust the unit, depress simultaneously the "4" and "20" keys,
six times to get "Un" on display. Then wait 3 seconds. When the
value appears on the display, you can change it by pressing "20" to
increase the value or "4" to decrease it. 1 = meter 2 = foot .
When your choice is done wait 6 seconds, time for the sensor to
come back to the run mode.
