Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to 2nd grade!

I am looking forward to this new school year. There are lots of new things to be learned and
new friends to be made.

My goal for this year is to help your child to be an independent and responsible learner, as well
as, to show him or her how to make responsible choices. To accomplish this goal, there will
be regular homework and we will be making spelling list at home and our class each day. My
expectations for the students and parents this year will be high. They will need to work hard
and do their best with the help of the excellent team, will be parents and the teacher together.

Please, read over the next few pages with your child. These pages will outline the classroom
policies, discipline, and answer some questions you may have about the school year. Be sure
you talk about what is in the packet with your child. The last page will need to be signed by
both the student and parent and returned to me. This page tells me that both the parent and
student know and understand the rules, consequences, and expectations for this year.

I am glad you are all here and can't wait to get started.

Homework

Homework is mandatory. In this package you will also receive attached the homework letter.
There are few allowable excuses for homework that is not turned in or incomplete. Spelling
lists and assignments will be posted on the class Dojo in case your child forgets the
homework folder on class. Homework not done will result in the following consequences:

The assignment needs to be finished.

3 minutes will be taken off of recess for each assignment not

completed.

A call will be made after 2-3 days of missed assignment.

If it continues to be a problem, a homework contract will be sent home which will need to be
signed by both the parent and student.

Homework missed due to absence will usually be due the following day after returning to
school. But of course, due to the number of days missed, workload, and the reason for the
absence, the due date can sometimes be negotiable.

Rules
I will give you the classroom rules list in this package.

Attendance

The students must be in the classroom no later than 8:09am since the test will be first thing in
the day and being late will affect there grades on the test. Fives tardies will be counted as one
absence.

Rewards!!!

Rewards will be given for various reasons throughout the week.

The reward, which will be given weekly, is based on group behavior and in the grades on test.
The number punches represent each day.

Other rewards will be given to students who go above and beyond.

Birthdays

We all love birthdays. We will have parties for various reasons throughout the year. It would be
nice to bring in little gift bags, pencils, erasers, coloring books, or other like items if you wish
to bring something in for your child's birthday. I ask that things like cupcakes, cookies, and
other goodies are to be brought during lunch to celebrate your child's birthday

Agendas

Every student will get an Agenda at the beginning of the school year. This is a great place to
keep up with homework to keep communication with the teacher. Parents it is your
responsibility to sign agenda everyday and make sure to sign the Reading time at home each
day.

Changes in getting home

If there is a change in where your child goes after school or how he/she gets home, please call
the office of send a note. Without that, I am not allowed to do what is out of the ordinary.

What do you need to bring to school?

All students should have a backpack. This makes transporting school supplies, homework and
Agendas. The students may also bring a water bottle. The bottle must have a lid that seals
tight. Water is the only thing that can be brought in the bottle. If your child wishes to bring a
toy or book from home to read or play with at recess, it needs to have the child's name on it.
This will prevent mix-ups and trades.
Trading toys, books, etc. is not allowed at my classroom.

Class App

The class has a use class Dojo. On our class Dojo, you will find upcoming events, homework's,
assignments, and the spelling list. There are also links to educational and age-appropriate
videos. Check the site often to keep up-to-date on announcements and homework.

Tests

Tests will be taken on the last day of each week, change may happen if its necessary. Please,
try not to miss it. Tests will be graded the same day. All tests with 69% or lower have to be
signed by a parent.
Please pay attention to class Dojo I post the grades private to each one.

Thank you for reviewing your student's packet. Now, all you have left to do is remove this
page from the packet and sign the middle of the page with your student. This page is due at
meet the teacher day. Please, fill in the bottom to let me know about arrangements for your
child to get home.

I have read and understand the rules, expectations, consequences, and rewards that my child
