is good practice for the next section which is order of operations with
fractions. Students will begin the lesson by reviewing as a class how to divide,
multiply, add, and subtract mixed fractions. Students will then receive a
worksheet that has multiplication and division of mixed numbers for them to
practice. The purpose of this lesson is to practice the concept of dividing,
multiplying, adding, and subtracting mixed fractions. The next two lessons that
will be scaffolded from this one will be solving word problems with division of
mixed fractions and then order of operations of fractions.

Introduction:Using Different Operations for Mixed Fractions Review (20 min) S lideshow
- Students will be instructed to take out a piece of paper to continue Students will need pencil,
their notes for section 1.3.5. Students will be informed that they are to paper, and erasers.
follow along and copy down an example of multiplying, dividing,
adding, and subtracting a mixed fraction with a mixed fraction. The
reason that students will be shown each operation is for student’s to
have a hard copy example of each operation to refer to.
- This review is teacher led while asking students questions. Students will
have time to have hands-on practice after.
Activity: Worksheets.
(1) Worksheets - Individual (5 min)
- Students will receive a worksheet of dividing and multiplying
mixed fractions to practice. The first 5 minutes will be individual
as I like for students to have the opportunity to work by
themselves initially as it forces them to think for themselves.
Additionally, it sets the tone that I expect them to be working on
the worksheet.
(2) Worksheets - partners (13 min)
- After 5 minutes, I will inform the class that it can be beneficial to
work with other people to bounce ideas off each other so if they
choose, they have the option to work with a partner.
If students finish the worksheet early, there is a second one for students to
start.
Conclusion:
- Because this is a 3 period class, I will have my conclusion for the day at
the end of period 3.
