At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a. identifies the characteristics and groups of vertebrates and invertebrates.
b. appreciates the importance of vertebrates and invertebrates through peer sharing on caring
and protecting animals.
c. creates a list of vertebrates and invertebrates that are commonly seen in the community.

Elicit (10 minutes) Materials/Assessment Tools


Show an animal and ask the students if they’ve known what PowerPoint Presentation
animals are on the board. LCD Projector

Questions:
 What animals are these?
 Have you seen them?
 How it lives?
Engage (10 minutes) Materials/ Assessment Tools
Show an image of vertebrates and invertebrates. Ask the PowerPoint Presentation
students what the differences of them. LCD Projector

Explore (10 minutes) Materials/ Assessment Tools


Working in groups, divide the class in 2 groups and each Chart
group will be given a chart of vertebrates and invertebrates.

Directions: The group 1 will encircle the vertebrates and the


group 2 will encircle the invertebrates.

Questions:
 What are the characteristics of vertebrates and
invertebrates’ animals?
 How many groups are there in vertebrates?
 In invertebrates how many groups are there?
 How could you identify the vertebrates and invertebrates’
animals?
 How could you protect and take care of the animals in our
environment?

Animals: Vertebrates and Invertebrates.

Vertebrates
 Vertebrates are an animal of a large group
distinguished by the possession of a backbone or
spinal column.

Groups of vertebrate’s animals


1. Mammals
2. Birds
3. Reptiles
4. Amphibians
5. Fishes

Invertebrates
 Invertebrates are the animals that are lacking or
without a backbone or spinal column.

Groups of Invertebrates animals


1. Sponges
2. Cnidarians
3. Roundworms
4. Segmented worms
5. Mollusks,
6. Arthropods
7. Echinoderms

 What are vertebrates?
 What are invertebrates?
 How could you distinguish vertebrates and
invertebrates?
 Who can enumerate the vertebrate animals?

Directions: Quiz
PowerPoint Presentation
Identify the groups of vertebrates and invertebrates’ animals.
Put if it is vertebrates and if it is invertebrates. You are
only given 2 minutes to answer.
