Question: Draw a pie diagram to represent the following data, which shows the monthly budget of a
family.

Item Expenditure (in Rs)


Food 4,800
Rent 1,800
Education 2,400
Clothing 600
Miscellaneous 1,600
Savings 800
Solution:

Step 1: Create 7x2 Table with boarder

Step 2: Type in Items in cell B3-B8 as Food, Rent, Education, Clothing, and Miscellaneous respectively.

Step 3: Type in Expenditures in cell C3-C8, 4800, 1800, 2400, 600, 1600 and 800 respectively.

Step 4: Click on Insert Tab > Charts group >Pie drop-down > 2-D Pie

Step 5: From the chart that shows up, we must connect the data to the sheet one by one. To do so, first click
on Design tab > Data group > Select Data option

Step 6: Click on Add and click on the part of the spreadsheet that will be displayed on the chart as the pie
chart.

Step 7: Click on OK in the above dialog box. Highlight the chart and again click on the Design Tab > Data
Group > Select Data option

Step 8: Click on Edit from above Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels. Choose the names that represent the
data plotted in the pie chart.

Step 9: Click on OK from the dialog box. The pie Chart with the legend shows up, like Fig 3.8.
