Treaty Creation and Termination Guide

The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties 1969 outlines the process for creating, adopting, ratifying, and terminating treaties under international law. Treaties are international agreements concluded in writing between states. They are negotiated between states to come to an agreement on terms. The text is adopted when all participating states consent, typically by a two-thirds majority vote. States then ratify to officially establish consent and be bound under international law. Treaties can be terminated according to provisions within the treaty or by consent of all parties.
