ABSTRACT (completed)

The impact of technology on learning outcomes has been significant in recent years.
With the rapid advancement of technology, educational institutions and learners have
embraced various technological tools and platforms to enhance the learning experience. This
has resulted in several positive effects on learning outcomes.

Firstly, technology has made learning more accessible and flexible. Online learning
platforms and digital resources have made it possible for students to access educational
materials anytime and anywhere. This flexibility allows learners to study at their own pace
and convenience, leading to improved engagement and retention of knowledge.

Secondly, technology has revolutionized the way information is presented and

understood. Interactive multimedia tools, such as videos, simulations, and virtual reality,
provide a more engaging and immersive learning experience. These tools help students
visualize complex concepts, making them easier to comprehend and apply in real-world
scenarios. As a result, students are more likely to grasp and retain information effectively.

Furthermore, technology has facilitated personalized learning experiences. Adaptive

learning systems and intelligent tutoring systems use data analytics and artificial intelligence
to tailor educational content to individual students’ needs and learning styles. This
personalized approach ensures that students receive targeted instruction and support, leading
to better learning outcomes and academic performance.

Moreover, technology has fostered collaboration and communication among learners.

Online discussion forums, video conferencing, and collaborative platforms enable students to
connect with peers and experts from around the world. This promotes knowledge sharing,
critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Collaborative learning experiences enhance
students’ social and communication skills, preparing them for the demands of the modern
workforce.

Lastly, technology has provided educators with powerful tools for assessment and
feedback. Online quizzes, automated grading systems, and learning analytics enable teachers
to monitor students’ progress in real-time and provide timely feedback. This immediate
feedback helps students identify their strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to focus on
areas that require improvement. Consequently, students can make necessary adjustments to
their learning strategies, leading to better learning outcomes.

In conclusion, the impact of technology on learning outcomes has been

transformative. It has made learning more accessible, engaging, personalized, collaborative,
and efficient. As technology continues to evolve, it is crucial for educational institutions to
embrace and integrate it effectively into their teaching practices to maximize the benefits for
learners.

INTRODUCTION

Technology has revolutionized the field of education, bringing about a significant impact on

learning outcomes. With the advent of various technological tools and platforms, learners

now have access to a wide range of resources and opportunities that enhance their educational

experience. This has resulted in improved accessibility, engagement, and personalized

learning. Technology has also fostered collaboration and communication among students,

while providing educators with powerful assessment and feedback tools. As we delve deeper

into the impact of technology on learning outcomes, it becomes evident that it has

transformed the way we learn and has the potential to shape a brighter future for education.

Background of the Study

The promise of technology in the classroom is great: enabling personalized,

mastery-based learning; saving teacher time; and equipping students with the digital skills

they will need for 21st-century careers. Indeed, controlled pilot studies have shown

meaningful improvements in student outcomes through personalized blended learning.1

During this time of school shutdowns and remote learning, education technology has become

a lifeline for the continuation of learning.

As school systems begin to prepare for a return to the classroom, many are asking

whether education technology should play a greater role in student learning beyond the

immediate crisis and what that might look like. To help inform the answer to that question,

this article analyzes one important data set: the 2018 Programmed for International Student

Assessment (PISA), published in December 2019 by the Organization for Economic Co-

operation and Development (OECD).

One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-4) adopted by the United

Nations focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Most research

on impact of technology on learning outcomes depends on designs that require low student-

to-computer ratio and extensive retraining of teachers. These requirements make the designs

difficult to implement on a large scale and hence are limited in terms of inclusivity and ability

to ‘provide equitable opportunity for all’. Our paper is the first to evaluate an intervention

design that is aimed at dealing with these concerns. We conduct a large-scale randomized

field experiment in 1823 rural government schools in India that uses technology-aided

teaching to replace one-third of traditional classroom teaching. Even with high student-to-

computer ratios and minimal teacher training, we observe a positive impact on student

learning outcomes. The study thus presents a low cost, resource-light design, which can be

implemented in a developing country on a large scale to address the problem of poor learning

outcomes, thereby making the intervention inclusive and equitable in line with the spirit of

SDG-4.

We will conducting this research

Review of Related Literature

Student today live in a very technological world. Most student use some form of
technology on a daily basis including; texting, social net working, and web surfing. Student
see these types of technologies as useful and extremely enjoyable. These very same students
that are a customized to these types of technologies will relate to using technology at school.
If their learning environment mirrors the ways in which they engage with the world. They
will excel in their education (Christen,2005).

Technology is a powerful contributor to learning if it used to deepen students engagement

in meaningful and intellectually authentic curriculum. With the use of technology, some
teachers are adopting the flipped classroom approach. This allows students to study the
material at home and come to school to engage in more discussion, exercise and activities.

According to Song and Kapur (2017),”few studies have reported how to develop students
problem solving, skills, and enhance their conceptual understanding in flipped classroom in
mathematician inquiry (P.293).Fisher,El al. (2014) discuss how classroom are turning to
technology for teaching and learning and how teacher’s roles have changed. The teacher’s
becomes facilitator, who takes the student on their learning journey, learning with them
instead of teaching them.

According to Bayta, Tarman and Ayas (2011) found that the most student believe that their
learnings is improved by integrating technology into classroom curriculum. Student
participating in the study reported that using in school makes learning fun and helps them
learn more. They believe that technology makes learning interesting, enjoyable, and
interactive children today love to learn by doing, interacting and discovering ( Bayta,Tarman
and Ayas 2011). Using technology in classroom has the potential to create increased student
motivation, increased, social interaction, positive outcomes, enhance student learning and
engagement.

Student’s who spent lot of time using technology were shown to have increased science
knowledge. They also performed better on math skills. Information and communication
technology has a positive effect on student learning and should be included in classroom
instructions (Buhun & Delen, 11).

METHODOLOGY

The impact of technology on learning outcomes is a fascinating topic. Technology has

revolutionized the way we learn and has the potential to greatly enhance learning outcomes.

There are several methodologies that can be used to study this impact.

Surveys and Questionnaires: Researchers can use surveys and questionnaires to gather data

from students, teachers, and other stakeholders to understand their perceptions of the impact

of technology on learning outcomes. This methodology allows for a broader perspective and

can provide valuable insights into the experiences of different individuals.

Research Design

This study is quantifiable in nature since the research questions we seek to answer

lead to numerical data

Specifically, the study is correlational as it aims to determine the impact of technology on

learning outcomes of grade 12 Tvl students in GMNHS-MAIN CAMPUS.

The researcher targets population and sample 100 TVL students of GMNHS MAIN our

research population is 200 and the sample size to study are 100 students randomly.
Cristobal & Cristobal (2016)defines correlational research as the researcher design employed

to investigate the direction and magnitude of relationship among variables in a particular

population.

The Sample

In order to investigate the impact of technology on student learning outcomes, it is important

to gather data from a representative sample of students. This research sample will utilize a

stratified random sampling method to ensure a diverse and balanced representation of the

target population. The study will focus on 100 students from a total population of 200 Tvl

students.

Stratified random sampling involves dividing the population into distinct subgroups, or strata,

based on relevant characteristics. In this case, the strata will be determined based on specific

criteria, such as grade level, gender, or academic performance. The number of students

selected from each stratum will be proportional to its size in the population.

The total population for this research sample consists of 200 Tvl students. These students

come from various grade levels and have different backgrounds and learning abilities.

Target Population:

The target population for this research sample is 100 students. These students will be selected

using the stratified random sampling method.

By employing a stratified random sampling method, this research sample aims to provide a

representative and diverse group of 100 Tvl students to study the impact of technology on

their learning outcomes. The findings from this sample will contribute to a better
understanding of how technology can be effectively integrated into education to enhance

student learning and academic achievement.

The Instrument(s)

Surveys are a valuable methodology for studying the impact of technology on learning

outcomes. By designing a set of focused survey questions, collecting responses from a target

audience (such as students, teachers, or parents), and analyzing the data, researchers can gain

insights into participants' perceptions and experiences. Surveys provide a way to gather both

quantitative and qualitative data, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the impact

of technology on learning outcomes. The findings from surveys can inform educational

practices and policies, ultimately enhancing the learning experience for students.

This refers to the questionnaire or data gathering tool to be constructed, validated and

administered (Creswell, 2012).

Data Collection Procedure

To collect data on the impact of technology on learning outcomes of Grade 12 TVL

students in GMNHS-MAIN, the following procedure can be followed. Firstly, clearly define

the research objectives, focusing on specific aspects of technology and learning outcomes.

Then, identify the sample by determining the target population and selecting a suitable

sample size and method. Develop a questionnaire that includes relevant questions about

technology usage, learning outcomes, and other influencing factors. Pilot test the

questionnaire to ensure clarity and make necessary revisions. Obtain ethical approval if

required. Administer the questionnaire to the selected sample, either in person or through

online platforms. Collect the completed questionnaires and ensure accurate data recording.

Analyze the data using appropriate statistical techniques. Interpret the findings, summarizing

key results and using visual aids if necessary. Draw conclusions and discuss the implications
for educational practices and policies. Throughout the process, prioritize participant

confidentiality, informed consent, and adherence to ethical guidelines.

Plan for Data Analysis

The data analysis plan for studying the impact of technology on learning outcomes of Grade

12 TVL students in GMNHS-MAIN involves several key steps. Firstly, the collected data

will be cleaned to ensure accuracy and consistency. Descriptive statistics will then be

calculated to summarize the characteristics of the data, including measures like mean,

median, and standard deviation. The analysis will focus on technology usage, examining the

frequency and types of technology used by students. Additionally, learning outcomes will be

analyzed, such as academic performance or grades, to identify any patterns or differences

among students who use technology extensively and those who use it less or not at all.

Correlation analysis will be conducted to explore the relationship between technology usage

and learning outcomes, while regression analysis will be used to assess the specific impact of

technology on learning outcomes, controlling for other relevant factors. The results will be

interpreted and discussed, considering the implications for the impact of technology on

learning outcomes, as well as any limitations and areas for further research. The analysis will

be conducted using appropriate statistical software and the results will be presented clearly

and accurately.
