A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer Kindly stand for our prayer. (Students praying)
(Call someone)
Greetings Good afternoon students Good afternoon, Ma’am!
Before you take your seats kindly arrange (Students picking-up pieces of trash)
your chairs and pick up pieces of paper on the
floor.
Thank you, Ma’am!
You may now sit
Checking of Who is absent today? None Ma’am!
Attendance
Very good, since no one is absent today. Let’s all (Students clapping)
give ourselves a round of applause.
B. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting the New Lesson
How are you students? We are fine, Ma’am!
What did you do during your weekend? (Student’s answer may vary)
Good to hear!
So, are you ready for our discussion for today? Yes Ma’am!
But before we start, who can still remember It’s writing number in scientific
the topic that you had last time? notation Ma’am
What is scientific notation? (Student’s answer may vary)
Very good!
C. Establishing Purpose of the Lesson
(Showing the students an example of (Students watch attentively)
scientific notation)
Does anyone of you know what are this? (Student’s answers may vary)
(Referring to the sample picture shown)
This are an example of positive and negative (Students listen attentively)
exponents.
So now, since you already saw an example of
positive and negative exponents, we will have
an activity. I’ll be dividing you into two groups
then I will be flashing flash cards.
D. Presenting Now our topic for today is about algebraic
examples/instances of the expression. But before that let me show you all
new lesson our objectives for this discussion.
(Paste the objectives on the board)
Now what is algebraic expression?
Algebraic expression is an expression which is
made up of coefficient, variables and
constants, along with algebraic operations
(addition, subtraction, etc.).
From the definition above algebraic expression
have components. It is composed of variables,
constant and algebraic operations. Let’s look at
the given example and identify its components.
4c-7
In the example above the number 4 is called
coefficient, the letter c is called variable, the
minus sign (-) is the algebraic operation and Yes sir
number 7 is the constant. Do understand
students?
Let’s have another example.
(Student answer)
In the given example, what is the coefficient?
(Call someone). (Student answer)
Very good how about the variable? (Call
someone). (Student answer)
Very good! How about the algebraic
expression? (Call someone) (Student answer)
Finally, what is the constant?
Good job students. Now let’s have exercises on
the board.
Instruction: Identify the components of the following
algebraic expression. Write the answer in the proper
column.
Algebraic Coefficient Variable Algebraic Constant
Expression Operation
1. 4y+1
2.6x-8
3.3d/2
4.5a(2)
5.4y/9
Good job students!
E. Discussing new concepts Algebraic expression composed of different Yes sir!
and practicing new skill #1 components. Right students?
How about this algebraic expression?
4x+2y-8
The number 4 and 2 are the coefficients, x
and y are the variables, times(x) and minus (-)
is the operation and number 8 is the
constant. Can you follow students? Yes sir!
Good! Now how about this algebraic
expression?
6a(2b)/7
Can you guess its components? (Students answers)
What are the coefficients? The variables? The
algebraic operations? Lastly the constant?
Good job students.
F. Discussing new concepts Now, let’s have another exercises on the
and practicing new skill #2 board.
Instruction: Identify the components of the following
algebraic expression. Write the answer in the proper
column.
Algebraic Coefficient Variable Algebraic Constant
Expression Operation
1. 7d/4
2.4a(3)
3.3x-4
4.4x(2y)/4
5.8a+2b-4
G. Developing mastery Now students what do you think is the It is important sir because it provides us
importance of learning the algebraic foundation knowledge as we learn about
expression as a student? mathematics.
Very good!
H. Finding practical application What is the topic we discuss today? (Student answers)
of concepts and skills in daily What are the components of algebraic (Student answers)
living expression?
Very good!
l. Making generalization and Now get ½ sheet of paper and answer the
abstraction about the lesson following.
Instruction: Identify the components of the following
algebraic expression. Write the answer in the proper
column.
Algebraic Coefficient Variable Algebraic Constant
Expression Operation
1. 3x(2y)/8
2.7a+2b-4
3.7y/9
4.6a+2
5. 3b-2
J. Evaluating learning Instruction: Identify the components of the
algebraic expression below.
