Two-Way Slab Design Guide

This document provides steps for designing a two-way concrete slab using the coefficient method, including: 1) inputting data like material properties and loadings, 2) analyzing the slab to determine thickness, moments, and reinforcement ratios, and 3) detailing the slab with reinforcement spacing. Design is performed using a spreadsheet program that accepts input values, analyzes the slab, and displays output results.

Steps in the Design of Two way Slab (Coefficient method)

A. Input Data

fc’ (MPa) – compressive strength of concrete

fy (MPa) – yield strength of rebar
SDL – superimposed dead load
LL – live load, depending on the occupancy of the area ASCE 07 Table 4-1
L – longer span
S – shorter span

B. Analysis and Design

a. Determine the min. thickness, t Note: minimum

b. Compute the weight of slab. thickness (two way) =
Self wt =γ con c x t Perimeter of panel
c. Acquire the moments in slabs considering coefficients using 180

where: Ca, Cb = tabulated moment coefficients

ω = uniform load, Kpa
la, lb = length of clear span in short and long directions
respectively

d. Calculate the factored moment (Mu)

Mu= 1.4DL +1.7LL
e. Compute the effective depth, d.
