David vs. Goliath: Faith Over Strength

David defeats the giant Goliath using only a sling and a stone, despite being much smaller and weaker. The story from the Bible shows how David trusts in God's strength and guidance rather than his own abilities. By praying to God for help before facing Goliath, David is able to defeat the giant with a single shot. The story motivates the author to face challenges by relying on God rather than his own strength.

THE SECRET OF DAVID

AJAY J. JAROMAY

The story I chose is the history of how a weak David defeated a

big and strong giant-like Goliath in just a second using not a hundred
or thousands of armies but using a single stone. The story can be
found in the Holy book of the Bible in First Samuel chapter 17. I
chose this story because it enlightens and motivates me on how GOD the
FATHER works in our lives.
The story begins when Goliath, a Philistine army whose height is
about 9 feet and 9 inches or about 3 meters wide, wore a bronze helmet on
his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing about 125
pounds or about 58 kilograms dared the Israelites that if someone
defeats him Philistines will eventually become their slaves, but if he
defeats the Israelites, they will become slaves of Philistines.
Hearing this Saul and the army of Israelites was terrified
because no one is stronger in the army than Goliath. Now, a simple man
named Jesse had eight sons, three of his sons joined Saul in the war,
they were beautiful men, tall, strong, and good-looking men, on the
other hand, there was David the youngest of the brood of eight, he was
not permitted to join the war because he was not strong enough, and
still young. David was always asked to bring food and water to his
brothers in the camp, he is also the one to take care of their sheep
and would chase the wolves away using his sling and a stone.
One day, Jesse told David to bring food and other needed supplies
to the camp for his brothers, there he heard and saw how the Goliath
the Philistine mocked and insulted the Israelites, so he went to King
Saul and told him that he wanted to fight Goliath. Saul was very much
hesitant because he knew that David was not ready physically, but
David insisted that he wanted to fight Goliath and so Saul permitted
him to go.
Saul and the Israelite armies make David wear heavy shields and
carry armors but David took them off because he was not comfortable
using those and would choose to use his weapon using a sling and a
stone. When Goliath saw that the Israelites choose David to fight him,
he thought they were kidding him and mocked David. But before David
crosses the river going close to the Philistine he prayed first to the
LORD to guide him and may the LORD be his strength, and in just one
shot of his stone and slingshot, David hit Goliath on the forehead
causing him to fall, bringing glory to the LORD and success to the
Israelites.
I chose this story because it always motivates me to do things
even though I think I am not strong enough to do them. The way David
bravely fought Goliath even though he knows to himself that he is no
match for a gigantic person like Goliath still bravely faced him not
with his own strength but with GOD’s strength alone, he asked GOD to
guide him and to protect him, to give him courage and that GOD be the
one to fought Goliath so people could see His glory and how miraculous
He is.
This history also reminds me that whenever we are facing great
challenges we must always look up to the heavens, pray to the LORD,
ask for His guidance, and not lean on our own strength and wisdom so
GOD could show how great He is.
This also reminds me that GOD does not look at people’s physical
appearance to make them valued and important, instead, GOD looks at
the willingness of one’s heart to submit to Him, how humble a person
is, and how much he/she trust the LORD, also if we do things for GOD’s
glory and not for our own pride and name. This has been the secret of
David that made him victorious, trusting not to his own strength, but
GOD’s.
