characteristic among vertebrates. They can be
classified or subdivided into five groups:
amphibians, fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
Fishes have tails, gills, and fins adapted for living
in aquatic habitats.
Amphibians can live in water and on land and
they have thin, slimy soft skin.
Reptiles have developed lungs that they can live
on land for long period and can live in water.
Birds have feathers, live on land and can fly.
Mammals have mammary glands that produce
milk. They have hair and fur and live on land.
* Monotremes- egg-laying mammals, ex.
platypus, echidnas
* Marsupials- their young-ones will be fully
developed outside the body while they are carried
in the pouch by the mother. Ex. kangaroos,

*Placental- the young are carried in the mother’s
