Mars II Tower/RT Series

Parallel Quick Installation Guide

Create by Sean Wang on 2007/1/2
Last Modified by Hunter Chen on 2009/5/5

This document is for service engineers/users to easy understand the procedures of the
installation of MSII parallel system.
Caution: MSII series ups can only be paralleled with the same model/capacity units.
All the procedures can simply divide as 4 parts which are:

1 Single units check – To check every unit for parallel is normal, variables setting
and output voltage are all correct.

2 Parallel wiring – To finish the physical power wiring between each unit.

3 Parallel setting – To setup variables of each unit working under parallel mode.

4 Test startup – Check parallel function running normally by test startup procedures.

1 SINGLE UNIT CHECK

1.1 Parameters Check

1.1.1 Connect AC input power, without
output connection. MSII Combo Control Keys List

1.1.2 Turn on input breaker, and do not

turn on inverter.

1.1.3 Enter setting mode by pressing

<On> & <↓> keys simultaneously
for 3 seconds.

1.1.4 Refer to the table1-1 next page,

Check all parameters are default
values.
<ON>+<Function> Æ Service Mode
1.1.5 “Bypass Voltage Range”, “Inverter <ON>+<↓> Æ Setting Mode
Synchronize Frequency Range”,
“Inverter Output Voltage” and
“Output Voltage Adjustment“ are
adjustable. But every unit for
parallel must be the same setting.

1.1.6 Change item to “Save”, press

Enter” “to save setting.
Caution: The setting will never be
changed until a SAVE action proceeds.

1.1.7 Shut off AC input while LCD shows

“LINE OFF” to reset UPS.

1.2 Basic Function Check

1.2.1 Turn on UPS, Run inverter, test
UPS with ACÆDC and DCÆAC
mode operations.

1.2.2 Check LCD panel display works normal.

1.3 Output Error Voltages Check

1.3.1 Check each unit’s inverter output voltage, and make sure the error voltage
between each unit is under 0.5Vac.

1.3.2 If error voltage at 0.5~1.0Vac, the parallel error current will be higher.

1.3.3 If error voltage over 1.0Vac, a calibration should process to the unit(s) which
has over-limit error voltage. Or the parallel could be fail.

P.S.* Output voltage default value is depends on different nation or order requested. For example, the default
voltage in North America will be 208V.
P.S.** Single unit ID number must be “01”, or UPS will have an Er17 error occurred.
P.S.*** Single unit Parallel function must be “OFF” (P 01), or UPS will have an Er21 error occurred.

2.2 Communication Cables Wiring And Terminal-Resisters Setting

2.2.1 Two and only two units’ “Terminal Resisters” must be turned on.

Caution: Terminal Resister setting wrong can not be detected by UPS, and it will
cause unpredictable failure or burned out of UPS.

2.2.2 Please use standard parallel kit

3 PARALLEL SETTING
3.1 Parallel Function Enable and ID Numbers

3.1.1 Turned on UPS AC input independently (Inverter off).

3.1.2 Enter Setup Mode.

3.1.3 Set ID numbers different, and there must have an “Id01” UPS to be the
default master unit of parallel system.

3.1.4 Set Parallel function “Enable” (P 02)

4 TEST STARTUP
4.1 Er21 Check (Communication Failure or Can not find ID1 unit)

4.1.1 Turn on AC input for UPS#2, UPS#3, UPS#4, UPS#1 (Id01) completely off.

4.1.2 UPS#2, UPS#3, UPS#4 LCD will show “Er21”.

4.1.3 Turn on UPS#1 AC input.

4.1.4 UPS#2, UPS#3, UPS#4 “Er21” stop showing.

Test OK

4.1.5 If there is still Er21 appear, one or more communication problem is exist.
Please check the setting or the parallel cables before.
Caution: Do not start inverter before Er21 test passed. Or unpredictable failure or
damage may occurred.

4.2 Redundancy Function Check

4.2.1 Turn on 2 or more units, the redundancy indicator “N+1” LED will be lit (If
normal).

Redundancy Redundancy
“N+1” LED “N+1” LED

4.2.2 For 2 units paralleled, If load more than 50%, the “N+1” LED will dim. For 3
units paralleled is 66%, and 4 units paralleled will be 75%.

4.2.3 Decrease the load under redundancy load point, the “N+1” LED will be lit
again.

4.2.4 Installation finished!!

5 Other Errors Explanations And Trouble Shooting
5.1 Er16 (Output Parameters Setting Error)
Cause:
If an Er16 appear during test 4.1, then there are one or more parameters setting
conflict between each unit.
Solution:
Process test 1.1 and check each parameters are the same setting between each
unit.
5.2 Er17 (ID Numbers are in conflict in Parallel System or ID number Error in
single unit)
Causes:
1. 2 or more units have the same ID number. (Parallel system)
2. Parallel function is not enabled, but ID number is not 01. (Single unit)
Solutions:
1. Change ID number setting.
2. Change ID number as 01.
5.3 Er27 (The UPS Must Be Operated in Normal-Mode in Parallel System)
Cause:
UPS is not setting in “Normal Mode”. “ECO Mode” and “Frequency-Converter
Mode” is not supported for parallel system.
Solution:
Change UPS setting as “Normal mode”.
5.4 Er08 (DC BUS High Level Abnormal)
Cause:
1. If the error voltage between each unit higher than 1.0Vac, An Er08 could
happen while a parallel system starting up.
2. Improper installation or parallel system communication failure.
Solution:
1. Check inverter output voltage independently for each unit. And apply calibration
procedures to the units which have abnormal output voltage.
2. Check parallel setting and apply 4.1 Er-21 checks to the system.
5.5 Er34 (Balance Function Conflicted)
Cause:
A unit with newer version than MS30074K was paralleled with older version unit(s).
Solution:
Use distributor version “UPS Setting Tool” software to enable special function flag
#8 can make new version compatible with old version.
