Task Designing
Creating effective assessment tasks requires thinking through curriculum content to establish learning
outcomes, then designing performance activities that will allow students to demonstrate their
achievement of those outcomes, and specifying criteria by which they will be evaluated.
Example:
Subject: Social Studies - Historical Figures and their Impact
Learning Outcome: Students will be able to analyze the contributions and impact of historical figures on
societal change and progress.
Performance Activity: Create a "living museum exhibit" showcasing a chosen historical figure.
Assessment Criteria:
Content Knowledge:
- Accurately portrays the historical figure's life, achievements, and contributions to society.
- Demonstrates understanding of the historical context and the figure's impact on their era.
Critical Thinking:
- Analyzes the figure's influence on societal change and progress, both positive and negative.
- Considers different perspectives and interpretations of the figure's legacy.
Communication and Creativity:
- Engages the audience through a well-designed and informative exhibit using various media
(e.g., visuals, artifacts, props, written descriptions).
- Effectively communicates the figure's story and significance in a clear, engaging, and age-
appropriate manner.
(Through tas designing, as a teacher naaachieve mo yung objective mo as a teacher sa lesson mo as well
as nailalabas mo yung full potential ng students mo, so in task designing, naiimprove mo yung pagtuturo
mo and also naiimprove din yung mga students mo.) Di kasama sa ppt
What are the benefits of Task Designing to Teachers/Instructors?
1. Task design helps to facilitate the congruence between instruction, task and assessment as
shown below in the triquetra.
2. Without the careful deliberation into which task will be used and how it will be implemented,
we run the risk of ineffective tasks and therefore unsuccessful learning opportunities.
3. Considering the task design process during lesson or curriculum planning may facilitate better
discussion between departments, year groups, schools in a trust etc. This, in turn, leads to more
effective tasks.
4. At its heart, task design encourages advocacy of the learner. It demands that we consider the
learner’s perspective (e.g., of prior knowledge, how the learner may attempt the task itself,
what the learner should or will think about during the task attempt etc.).
Some generally accepted standards for designing task include:
Identifying an activity that would highlight the competencies to be evaluated. e.g., Reciting a
poem, writing an essay, manipulating the microscope.
Identifying an activity that would entail more or less the same sets of competencies then the
teacher would have difficulty assessing student’s competency on the task. Dapat same level
yung competencies na kailangan mo don sa task, kasi pag tumaas or bumaba siya mahihirapan
yung teacher na maassess kung kaya ba talaga ng students yung task o hindi.
Find a task that would be interesting and enjoyable for the students.
