Isolation Check
(Gatety for Electrical Shock Hazard)
Aor re-assembling the product, always perform an isotation
check on the exposed metal parts of the cabinet (antenna ter-
videofaudio input and ourput terminals, Contot knobs,
‘metal cabinet, serowheads, earphone jack, contol shafts, et.)
{o be sure the product is safe to operate without danger of
‘lectrical shock
Dielectric Strength Test
‘The ieolaton batweon the AC primary circuit and ail metal
parts exposed to the user, paricularly any exposed motal part
hhaving a volun path to the chassis should withstand a. volage
‘of 3000V AC (cms) fora pods of one second,
(. Withstand a voltage of 1100 AG (rms) 10 an appl
‘ance raled up fo 120V, and 3000V AC (cm..) to an apple
‘ance rated 200V or more, fora period of ona second)
‘This mothod of test requires a tos! equipment not generally
‘ound in the service vade.
Leakage Current Check
hug the AC line cord diecty into the AC outlet (do not use a
line isolaton transformer during tis chock). Using a “Leak-
‘age Current Tester", measure the leakage current trom oach
fexposed metal part of the cabinet, partoularly any exposed
‘metal part having a return path to the chassis, to @ known
(9009 earth ground (walor pe, ole.) Any leakage current
‘must not exceed 0.5mA AC (cm.
‘* Altornate Check Method
ug tho AC lino cord directly ito the AC outlet (Jo nol use a
line isolation tanstormer during this check). Use an AC volt
‘meter having 1000 ohms por vol or more sensitivity in the ft
lowing manor. Connect a 15000 10W resistor paralleled by
8 0.15uF AC-ype capacitor between an exposed mia part
‘and a known good earth ground (waler pipe, etc). Measure
the AC vollage across the resistor with the AC. volimeter.
Move the resistor connection to each exposed metal part, par-
toulary any exposed motal part having a rotum path to the
chassis, and measure the AC vollage across the resstor.
‘Now, reverse the plug inthe AC outet and repeat each mea-
urement. Any volage measured must not exceed 0.38V AC.
