3 Installing Devices
The scenario requirements for the communication between the CIM and BIM are as follows:
It is recommended that the CIM be installed on the wall which is outside the battery bus
bar box (BBB box), outside the battery switch cabinet, and near the BBB box.
It is recommended that the distance between the CIM and BIM be within 15 meters.
The CIM should be installed 1 meter higher than the ground. The surrounding area of the
antenna should not be blocked, and the antenna should be perpendicular to the ground.
At least one side should be visible between the CIM and the battery rack.
When two battery cabinets form one battery string, the side panel between the battery
cabinets is not configured.
If the CIM is installed in a battery cabinet, the battery cabinet should meet the following
requirements:
Porosity requirements of the front and rear doors: The hole size is 5.0 mm, the porosity
rate is 60%, and the porosity area is more than 70%.
Battery layer requirements: The battery layer should have a gap greater than 70 mm on
both left and right sides.
This section lists the tools and instruments required for installation.
NOTE
This table may not list some tools required at specific sites. Site installation personnel and technical
support personnel should prepare tools based on site requirements.
(1) Hall effect sensor (2) CIM (3) Battery control I/O board (BIB)
In the figure, the circuit breaker panel of the battery cabinet has been removed. Before
removing the circuit breaker panel, knock off the cover on the CIM indicator hole on the
panel.
If battery cabinets are combined, remove the side panels between the battery cabinets.
If the battery string is configured with the neutral wire, measure the currents of the
positive and negative battery string cables. If the battery string is not configured with the
neutral wire, measure the current of either the positive or negative battery string cable.
The following uses the scenario where the battery string is configured with the neutral
wire as an example.
Procedure
Step 1 Install a BIM.
The red terminal is positive, and the black terminal is negative. Connect battery terminals
correctly.
Voltages on the BIM cable are hazardous. Therefore, wear insulation gloves when
performing operations on the cable.
Check that there is no dust on the battery surface before attaching the BIM fastener to the
battery.
The BIM fastener is closely attached to the battery.
1. Connect the positive and negative BIM cables respectively to the positive and negative
wiring terminals or poles of the battery.
Use an insulated torque wrench during battery installation. The terminal torque depends on
battery specifications.
M6: 4–6 N·m
M8: 13–15 N·m
M10: 15–20 N·m
Install a battery bolt in the following sequence: bolt > spring washer > flat washer > OT terminal >
battery connecting piece.
2. Secure the BIM.
(1) Strip the adhesive tape from the BIM (2) Attach the BIM and press it for more than
fastener. 10 seconds.
3. After connecting all power cables to the system, connect the cable to the BIM.
The CIM must be installed 1 meter above the ground to ensure proper wireless
communication between the CIM and the BIM.
1. Connect the antenna delivered with the CIM to the RF_Z port on the CIM.
2. Strip the adhesive tape from the CIM fastener, and attach the fastener to the bounding
frame on the CIM fixed mount.

Dimensions (L x W) of the center hole of the Hall effect sensor are 40.5 mm x 30.5 mm
(LEM) or 40.5 mm x 40.5 mm (TAMURA).
In the left figure, the BIM is installed at the top of a battery. In the right figure, the BIM is
installed at the side panel of a battery.
Procedure
Step 1 Install a BIM.
The following describes how to install a BIM at the side panel of a battery. It also provides a
reference for how to install a BIM at the top of a battery.
When installing the CIM in the battery switch cabinet, do not use the delivered antenna. Attach the
external antenna to the top of the battery switch cabinet, and connect the antenna cable to the RF_Z port
on the CIM.
2. Strip the adhesive tape from the CIM fastener, and attach the fastener to the BCB box.
Step 3 Install Hall effect sensors. The arrow on the Hall effect sensor on the positive battery string
cable should point to the battery string. The arrow on the Hall effect sensor on the negative
battery string cable should point to the BCB box.
If the positive or negative battery string cable is too thick to be routed through the Hall effect
sensor, or the measurement range of the Hall effect sensor is not enough, use multiple Hall
effect sensors to monitor the current of one battery string. The CIM supports the sum of the
monitoring results of multiple Hall effect sensors.
1. Route the positive and negative battery string cables to Hall effect sensors.
2. Secure Hall effect sensors to the positive and negative battery string cables using cable
ties.
Install an adapter when the CIM communicates over the COM port.
Prepare ST3.5x35 tapping screws, washers, and 6x30 plastic expansion sleeves by yourself.
1. Mark mounting holes using markers.
2. Drill holes using a hammer drill.
3. Knock 6x30 plastic expansion sleeves into the mounting holes using a rubber mallet.
4. Secure the adapter using ST3.5x35 tapping screws and washers to a torque of 0.3 N·m.
(1) ST3.5x35 tapping screw (2) Washer (3) 6x30 plastic expansion sleeve
----End
4 Connecting Cables
Connect the Hall effect sensor on the positive battery string terminal side to the HALL_1
current monitoring port on the CIM, and connect the Hall effect sensor on the negative
battery string terminal side to the HALL_2 current monitoring port on the CIM.
The positive and negative battery string cables must be routed in directions shown by
arrows on the Hall effect sensors. The positive battery string cable routes from the UPS to
the battery, and the negative battery string cable routes from the battery to the UPS.
Procedure
Step 1 Connect the CIM signal cables.
In the foregoing figure, the iBOX is equivalent to the CIM, and the iBAT is equivalent to the BIM.
Step 2 (Optional) If there are multiple CIMs, connect each CIM to the smart ETH gateway separately.
The method of connecting cables between the CIM and southbound components are the same.
----End
Figure 4-3 CIM and BIM networking (in the UPS scenario)
Procedure
Step 1 Connect the cable between the CIM and the Hall effect sensor.
When a CIM manages multiple battery strings, first connect the Hall effect sensors on the positive
and negative cables of battery string 1 respectively to the corresponding ports on the CIM. Then
connect the Hall effect sensors on battery string 2 to the CIM in the same way, and so on. The
following describes cable connections by using one battery string as an example.
If the battery string is configured with the neutral wire, measure the currents of the positive and
negative battery string cables. If the battery string is not configured with the neutral wire, measure
the current of either the positive or negative battery string cable.
If the battery string is configured with a neutral wire and each of the positive and
negative battery string cables connects to one Hall effect sensor, connect the Hall effect
sensor on the positive battery string terminal side to the HALL_1 current monitoring port
on the CIM, and connect the Hall effect sensor on the negative battery string terminal
side to the HALL_2 current monitoring port on the CIM.
If the battery string is not configured with a neutral wire, connect the Hall effect sensor on the positive
or negative battery string cable to the HALL_1 current monitoring port on the CIM.
If the battery string is configured with a neutral wire and each of the positive and
negative battery string cables connects to two or more Hall effect sensors. For example,
if each of the positive and negative battery string cables connects to two Hall effect
sensors, connect the Hall effect sensors on the positive battery string terminal side to the
HALL_1 and HALL_2 current monitoring ports on the CIM, and connect the Hall effect
sensors on the negative battery string terminal side to the HALL_3 and HALL_4 current
monitoring ports on the CIM.
If the positive or negative battery string cable is too thick to be routed through the Hall effect sensor, or
the measurement range of the Hall effect sensor is not enough, you can connect two or more Hall effect
sensors to each of the positive and negative battery string cables to monitor the current of one battery
string.
If the battery string is not configured with a neutral wire, connecting two Hall effect sensors to the
positive or negative battery string cable is used as an example. Connect the Hall effect sensors on the
positive or negative battery string cable to the HALL_1 and HALL_2 current monitoring ports on the
CIM.
Step 2 Connect the CIM communications cable. Connect one end of the RS485 cable to the
COM_OUT port on the CIM, and the other end to the COM2 port on the UPS monitoring
interface card.
Figure 4-7 Cable connection between the UPS and the CIM
Step 3 Connect the CIM power cables. Connect a straight-through cable between the CIM and the
adapter, and connect the adapter AC power cable to a socket.
If batteries cannot be charged, do not connect the cable to the PoE port on the CIM.
Step 4 (Optional) If multiple CIMs are cascaded, setting the DIP switch.
Step 5 (Optional) If multiple CIMs are cascaded, connect cables between the UPS and CIMs.

Prerequisites
Before networking, ensure that all the CIMs and BIMs have no network parameters, that is,
the RF_Z indicator on the CIM is steady green and the RUN/ALM indicator on the BIM is
steady red.
If the RF_Z indicator on the CIM is not steady on (green), press and hold down the
networking switch on the CIM for 10–20 seconds to clear the original network.
If the RUN/ALM indicator on the BIM is not steady red, hold down the BIM networking
switch for at least 5 seconds to clear the original network.
Do not operate the networking switch during networking. Otherwise, the networking fails.
Context
To prevent the BIM in a group connects to another CIM, ensure that only one CIM is under
networking at a time. That is, only the RF_Z indicator on this CIM is blinking at super short
intervals.
Procedure
Step 1 Press the networking switch on the CIM for 2 seconds. The ALM indicator blinks red once,
and the RF_Z indicator turns from steady green to blinking green at super short intervals,
which indicates that the CIM is being networked.
Blinking at long intervals: The indicator is on for 1s and then off for 1s alternately.
Blinking at super short intervals: The indicator is on for 0.05s and then off for 0.05s alternately.
Step 2 Hold down the networking switch on the BIM for 2 seconds. When the RUN/ALM indicator
turns from steady red to blinking green at super short intervals, and finally to blinking green at
long intervals, the BIM connects to the CIM network.
It is recommended that BIMs be networked from the positive battery string terminal according to the
battery cable connection sequence.
Batteries are numbered depending on the sequence of connecting BIMs to the CIM.
Step 3 Perform networking operations on the next BIM only after networking for the previous BIM
is successful. Repeat Step 2 to add remaining BIMs to the CIM network.
Step 4 Press the CIM networking switch for 2 seconds. When the RF_Z indicator on the CIM turns
from blinking green at super short intervals to blinking green at long intervals, the networking
is complete.
After the networking is complete, if the ALM indicator on the CIM is steady on, the number of devices
online is smaller than the value of BIM number. Check that BIM number is set to a correct value and
that the BIM is successfully networked.
Step 5 (Optional) If multiple CIMs are cascaded, repeat Step 1 to Step 4 to perform networking for
remaining CIMs and BIMs.
----End
Follow-up Procedure
If the UPS does not charge batteries for a long time, power off the CIMs to prevent damage to
batteries. After the CIMs have been powered off for 30 minutes, the BIMs will hibernate
automatically if the voltage of 2 V batteries is less than 2.1 V or the voltage of 12 V batteries
is less than 12.6 V.
When the UPS is charging batteries, and the voltage of 2 V batteries is greater than 2.1 V or the
voltage of 12 V batteries is greater than 12.6 V, the BIMs will start automatically.
The battery voltage for enabling the BIMs to automatically hibernate or start varies under different
conditions.
Context
To meet the requirement that the number can be adjusted freely, the iBOX will assign a
number (1–300) to each iBAT that requests network entry.
On the iBOX WebUI, choose Monitoring > iBOX System > Running Control > Net Join
Config. There are five configuration methods: Insert an iBAT, Replace an iBAT, Delete an
iBAT, Batch-replace iBATs , and Switch iBAT No..
Inserting an iBAT
Reference No.: Indicates the reference node number corresponding to the operation type.
Example: There are three iBATs in the network and they are numbered 1, 2, and 3. Choose
Insert an iBAT and set Reference No. to 2. After the operation, number 2 is reserved, and the
iBAT numbers 2 and 3 change to 3 and 4 respectively.
Replacing an iBAT

If the SOH is abnormal,
replace the battery string.
In the scenario where the iBOX connects to the UPS, if BCB connection, Battery
breaker, and Batt. abnormal BCB trip are set to Enable in the UPS MDU, when a
Single Batt. terminal off alarm is raised, the system automatically controls the BCB to
disconnect.
If the fault persists, contact Huawei technical support.
Context
If a CIM becomes faulty during system running, the CIM should be replaced promptly.
Procedure
Step 1 Clear the network parameters for all the BIMs managed by the CIM to be replaced.
If the CIM is damaged, hold down the networking switches on all the BIMs managed by
the CIM to clear present network parameters.
If the CIM is not damaged, hold down the CIM networking switch to clear present
network parameters.
Step 2 Remove cables from the CIM panel and label each cable.
Step 3 Remove the CIM.
1. Remove the CIM from the fastener.
2. Record the DIP switch address of the CIM.
Step 4 Install the new CIM.
1. Clamp the CIM to the fastener.
2. Set the DIP switch for the CIM based on the recorded information.
Step 5 Connect the cables to the new CIM based on the recorded information.
Step 6 After the installation is complete, set parameters and network the CIM again.
