1. Reanalyze the five (5) different file structures that were discussed and search for other file structures
that are available in books, the Internet, and other resources. Closely analyze the components,
attributes, structure, and operations or implementation guidelines of each file organization.
Pile – The most common and simplest type of file organization. Its files are unorganized so it might
take time to know the right information. Each piece of information will need to be examined to find the
correct information.
Sequential File – A fixed format record that a simple type of file organization. Its information is
recorded in an arrangement to which type of information which is written on the file in order in which
arrangement they are created.
Indexed Sequential File – A type of file organization that has key and lock on finding of the
information. There are many files in this structure that arrange in chronological order to unlock and
access it you need to know the key to know the information. The most secure type of file organization.
Indexed File – A computer file that can be easily unlocked if the user has the key. There are two
types of indexes that were organized that have information of the file. The exhaustive index that has
the sequence of order and holds every record of the main file.
Direct/Hashed File – A type of file organization is a method for securing record, also has a key for
accessing the record. The hashed file organization was the simplest and the most complex of all the
file organization.
2. After gathering all the essential ideas and concepts, propose a unique file organization structure or a
file management system using the guidelines/questions below. Use 3 to 5 sentences in answering
each item. (5 items x 5 points)
a. Enumerate all your desired attributes/features/functionalities for your file organization design.
- My desired feature was easy to understand it was simple and has reliability for the user to
understand. Another is that was easy and reliable so that most people could use it. Many of the
files should be in one data that organize much information to different people. Quick access and
fast efficiency so that it will not take time for the user.
b. Which specific file system property would you like to focus on: long-term existence, sharable
between processes, or good internal structure? Why?
- The one I will choose is the one with the best internal structure to easy and reliable to any to deal
with any specification. Moreover, the files should be organized in order of their specific
information that deals with any specification or problems.
b. Select a particular industry (i.e., education, entertainment, health services, and
manufacturing industry) that would greatly benefit from your file organization design and
explain how it will be beneficial for your selected industry. Elaborate on your answer.
- If I decided to choose, I would decide education since the file organization that I will be much
more integrate to education than other industry? Also having file management will allow teacher
to know enrolled students, to record the grades, and to know specific problem to the student.
.
b. Identify what type of records or files would be involved in your design. Elaborate on your
answer.
- The most important of all will be the student grade and personal history to allow if the student was
fit to enroll in a school or course. Another will be the recording of the financial record of the
student to know if anyone paid or not. Lastly, will be the enrollment and the graduates we’re we
will know how many students finished their education and how many students enroll.
b. What makes your file organization design unique? Rationalize your answer.
- Easy and friendly to the user, we could easily manage the important records of many students
and easily find, or access updated information about the student.
3. Create a simple illustration of your proposed file organization structure. (10 points)

4. List down possible recommendations to improve your file organization structure design. (5 points)
- My recommendation for improvement of the file organization was to store the data on a single file
structure that has an organized set of information and records. Next will be an organized file
which will be the student or the teacher, the enrollees and the graduates, the grade and personal
record, etc. that was arranged in logical order. Lastly was to have a backup file in case we delete
or forgot the file.
5. Properly cite all relevant references that you have utilized. (5 points) -
