Reflective Development Report
Why recording and making a PDP is important?
Professional development is a very vital part of all working careers (PDP, 2021), as it enables
a person to understand how they have gone through different development stages throughout
their career and also teaches them in regard to how to plan long and short-term goals for
achieving the next steps in their professional and personal life. ([Link], 2018).
This report will explain how the completion of a number of tasks throughout the module have
developed an increasing knowledge as to personally developing over the course of a career. A
PDP (Personal Development Planning) plays a very vital role to engineers as without keeping
records of PDP, you, as an engineer, cannot become a chartered engineer.
This happens because of the requirement of the institutions to understand and deem you as an
exemplary engineer.
Prior Learning Needs
The prior learning i need beforehand are as follows:
The first thing I need is prior knowledge in the Project Management and Planning (Project
Management Guide for Beginners | Wrike, 2021) area. To fully understand this area as it is a
specification required by the client/employer, i need:

Project Management and Planning
- An Increasing knowledge in Technical Engineering.
- To understand the planning methods.
- To learn the art of effective project planning on a personal level with the setting of
personal goals.
Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills
The next required specification required by the employer is Teamwork and Interpersonal
Skills (Teamwork & interpersonal, 2021). The areas I need to improve myself in are
- Maintaining eye contact at all times while communicating with others
- Learning to have more involvement in decisions and not sitting back.
- Use of hand gestures is effective in this area.
Knowledge Application (Knowledge Workers - organization, levels, system, examples, type,
company, workplace, business, system, 2021)
- Conducting revision on knowledge that has become vague from past modules.
- To Find more opportunities in order to apply current knowledge.
Problem Solving (Problem Solving Series | Professional Development | USF, 2021)
- To become more confident with suggested solutions.
- To become able in ranking multiple solutions from best to worst and the reasoning
behind their ranking.
How will I achieve this goal?
Project Management and Planning
- By receiving high marks in my Group Project and Construction Management
modules.
- By applying for a placement in Project Management.
- By setting long and short term Goals in order to improve planning.
Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills
- By taking part in mock interviews and making good use of the elevator pitch, it will
help me in maintaining decent eye contact and usage of hands as a positive body
language.
- By taking a forward role during group project modules.
Knowledge Application
- Using my mock exams to ensure knowledge gained can be successfully applied in real
life situations such as exams and applying them to real life engineering problems.
- By gaining a placement to make sure knowledge is expanding all of the time.
Problem Solving
- By application of mathematics skills to Civil Engineering problems.
- Assessment of solutions to a given specific problem while doing group projects and
determining how good or bad they are to aid in solving the problem.

- Learning to manage different aspects of a given project.
- Fully learning and gripping the concept of how to effectively communicate with
colleagues.
- Add and expand our information and knowledge on live construction by learning and
understanding Industry placement.
Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills
- Learning how to handle high pressure situations through experience. Such as in
interviews, which will increase my confidence and boost my interpersonal skills.
- Getting involved and working more in group projects will lead to better understanding
as to how to be an effective contribution to the team.
Knowledge Application
- By taking more exams, It will ensure that I can learn the art of applying the
knowledge I have learnt.
- By experiencing engineering problems and project designing.

The first week when i was given this project, i was getting multiple ideas about different
types of tasks of distinctive approaches of project management, definition of project, stages
of project management along with the steps and procedures involved in project
management and how to finish and control the project.

management of the project

Conclusion: In the week, I have successfully completed task of this week
Risks/Issues that were identified?
It was difficult to make my first project as it was strenuous in observing the ideas that have
been given and taught to me in physical and virtual lectures and implementing these ideas
was also tough.
Problems faced
It was beneficial for me as books and handouts along with online study guides were given
to me which made it uncomplicated for me to catch ideas. I believe that there were no
particular complications.
Tasks planned for next week
Next week, I have decided to research about management of project and adhere the idea of
reach data and project management.
I would learn performing tasks with different methods by research.
Reach methods that are available are not sufficient for completing the tasks and seems
incomplete as on-hands experience is much more appropriate.
I also applied for an internship to FWO, the Construction Company, as per instructed by
my professor for better understanding.

I had to do research using different methods qualitative/quantitative. Needed to get a
complete research done on the basic things I needed to learn as per the requirements of the
client, out of which some were: Project Management and Planning, Teamwork and
Interpersonal Skills, Knowledge Application, Problem Solving and a few more.
Conclusion: In the week, I have successfully completed task of this week

I found it a little tough for me to apply the ideas that have been given to me in theoretical
lectures accordingly.
Problems Faced
As I hadn't worked or had any prior knowledge and experience in the construction industry,
or how things operated, neither had I experienced office/work environment before, so it
was a little tough to put things into perspective.

I planned to follow up on application approval status for my internship at FWO.

Internship application was accepted, and I was told to start the first thing tomorrow. There I
was to learn more on-hands about all the prerequisites required by employers/clients, so
they could help me to better create my report.
Risks/Issues Identified
As I had done prior research on Project Management etc, it was less tricky for me now. I
was learning a lot about Teamwork/Interpersonal skills in this first week at internship.
Problems Faced
It was a new environment for me, so it was a bit tricky for me to fit in and understand
everything as it is much different than on paper.
Tasks For Next Week/Task Status for this week
I was to attend a networking event, where the representatives of different companies could
have asked questions and asked to provide experience of our work as an engineer. Further,
take a Nissan practice tests, to learn about task completion at time and how to keep the
team together during pressure situations. Learn more about Professional Communication,
Commercial Skills, Team Management, Teamwork etc.

Attended all the events and gained crucial knowledge and experience regarding teamwork,
interpersonal skills etc. Sufficient enough to complete my report.
Risks/Issues Identified
Report writing is a fairly new task for me and I don’t have skills to fulfill the requirement
of the task that’s why this task was tough for me.
Problems faced
Report writing was the actual issue I faced as I haven’t done it before. But my instructor
helped me and explained how to write a reflective report and it solved my problem.

Reflection on development/Learning journey:
Reflecting on the development and learning journey, learning Project Management, Planning,
experiencing Teamwork Skills, how to work in a team, how to keep the team together in
pressure situations has taught me how to be a very effective member in any
company/organization.
After my internship period at FWO, I can definitely say that hands-on experience is much
more different as compared to during lectures in the university as we have to tackle real life
situations and come up with an effective solution while working as a team to tackle those
problems in the most efficient and cost-effective way as possible, which will definitely serve
as a profit. Other skillsets I have achieved are Management abilities, punctuality, discipline
and how to get projects done within a short span of time or within a very tight deadline (Time
management).
This experience helped me immensely in writing the final reflective development report
project that I was assigned. I faced some difficulties at the start as this was a new project for
me but as the weeks passed, I learnt more and more about the Construction industry and its
operational activities which helped me secure a good feedback from my professor on my
finished report.
