1 Peter 4:1-11

Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the
same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with
sin.4:2As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil
human desires, but rather for the will of God.4:3For you have spent
enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in
debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable
idolatry.4:4They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the
same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.4:5But they will
have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the
dead.4:6For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those
who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in
regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.4:7The
end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so
that you can pray.4:8Above all, love each other deeply, because love
covers over a multitude of sins.4:9Offer hospitality to one another without
grumbling.4:10Each one should use whatever gift he has received to
serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various
forms.4:11If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very
words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God
provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 23:3-12
3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do
what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4They tie up
heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they 1452 themselves
are not willing to lift a finger to move them. 5 "Everything they do is done
for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their
garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most
important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted in the
marketplaces and to have men call them 'Rabbi.' 8 "But you are not to be
called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers.
9And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he
is in heaven. 10Nor are you to be called 'teacher,' for you have one
Teacher, the Christ. 11The greatest among you will be your servant.
12For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles
himself will be exalted.

1 Timothy 3:1-13
1Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an
overseer, he desires a noble task. 2Now the overseer must be above
reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled,
respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not given to drunkenness, not
violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must
manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with
proper respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own
family, how can he take care of God's church?) 6He must not be a recent
convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment
as the devil. 7He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that
he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap. 8Deacons, likewise,
are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and
not pursuing dishonest gain. 9They must keep hold of the deep truths of
the faith with a clear conscience. 10They must first be tested; and then if
there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. 11In the same
way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers
but temperate and trustworthy in everything. 12A deacon must be the
husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household
well. 13Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great
assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 14:6-19
6Now, brothers, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be
to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or
word of instruction? 7Even in the case of lifeless things that make
sounds, such as the flute or harp, how will anyone know what tune is
being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? 8Again, if the
trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? 9So it is
with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will
anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air.
10Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of
them is without meaning. 11If then I do not grasp the meaning of what
someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and he is a foreigner
to me. 12So it is with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try
to excel in gifts that build up the church. 13For this reason anyone who
speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says. 14For
if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15So what
shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will
sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. 16If you are praising
God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do
not understand say "Amen" to your thanksgiving, since he does not know
what you are saying? 17You may be giving thanks well enough, but the
other man is not edified. 18I thank God that I speak in tongues more than
all of you. 19But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words
to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.
