9 Destination Travel System

ABSTRACT

The Destination Travel System is a modern day tool to solve our day to day
transportation related problems. There are a number of issues when it comes to
travelling from one place to another, some people don't have their own vehicles, and
others don't want to use public transport like buses to travel, independent taxi owners
asking for higher fares and many more. Destination Travel System aims to provide relief
to people facing these issues by providing easy to book, cheap and pleasant rides to
anyone with access to internet, smartphone and computer or laptop. The Destination
Travel System is a two - way tool that encourages both the customers in need of a ride
as well as vehicle owners to register with the app, thus diminishing the distance
between customers and vehicle owners. With the Destination Travel System eliminates
the need of bargaining that the customers and the drivers have to go through as it
makes sure that price one pay for a ride is minimum. This is ensured by the fact that
there are multiple online booking service providers and the customer has the option to
pick the one providing best services for the lowest price.
Keywords: online seat booking, taxi booking, booking services, local transport

10 Destination Travel System

CHAPTER 01
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Online Destination Travel System is developed to manage seats in vehicle booking
online. It is useful for local transport system to customers. Using this system local
drivers of local transport will be moving ahead to become a pioneer in the local transport
industry by completely focusing on customers. Using this system it will be very easy for
customer to book a seat in vehicle online and drivers can also track their booking online.
So it is also very useful for drivers of local transport. It is an online system in there will
be three entities Admin, Drivers and Passengers. Admin will be the head of whole
system and will have full authorities whereas drivers and passengers will be restricted
up to their concern activities. In this system passengers can view available seats in
vehicles provided by drivers, view profile and book seats. Similarly drivers will be able to
provide available seats in his vehicles and view profile. Destination Travel System will
be providing transport facilities in all other fields of life such transport for school, offices
etc. In destination travel system admin can also check which driver is free for booking
and which drivers are on booking at present time. The objective and scope of
destination travel system is to record the details various activities of user. It will simplify
the task and reduce the paper work. Using this system vehicle owner can also become
partner of organizations such as schools, colleges, universities and companies by
providing all available seats for booking. Online Destination Travel system is a web
based application that allow users to book a seats in vehicles online. From this system
Admin can manage all data of drivers and passengers and their bookings and users
(drivers and passengers) information. Passenger can book seats in vehicle and pay to
admin on monthly basis. Admin will pay to concern drivers. Both drivers and passengers
can confirm the booking and cancel the booking.

We have develop this system to produce a web-based system that allow customer to

11 Destination Travel System

register and reserve seats in vehicle online and for the organizations to effectively
manage their transport system.
1.2 Objectives
The development in Information Technology and internet penetration has greatly
improved various corporate processes and communication between services providers
and their customers of which online vehicle booking market is not left out.
This Destination Travel System is developed to provide the following services:

Boost Business Processes:

The Internet connects us across the globe. Which means if we start using booking
software like Destination Travel System, we would able to increase our business. This
would help us to connect the global world instead of limiting our services to our local
domain alone, thus increase their return on investment (ROI).

Online Vehicle Reservation:

No more wait, No more phone call. Just Open Destination Travel System, browse
through seats in vehicles, select and book. This would save the customer time and
provide them best service in their range.
Thus the objective and scope of destination travel system is to record the details various
activities of user. It will simplify the task and reduce the paper work. Through this
system Destination Travel System can also become partner of organizations such as
schools, colleges, universities and companies by providing all available seats for
booking. Online Destination Travel system is a web based application that allow users
to book seats in vehicles online. From this system Admin can manage all data of drivers
and passengers and their bookings and users (drivers and passengers) information.
Passenger can book seats in vehicle and pay to admin on monthly basis. Admin will pay
to concern drivers. Both drivers and passengers can confirm the booking and cancel the
booking.

12 Destination Travel System

1.3 Problem Statement
Peoples in Peshawar facing a lots of difficulties in transportation system. People
travelling locally or organizations such as schools, colleges, universities and all other
companies require transportation system.
The Manual car rental system provides services only during office hours. So; customers
have limited time to make any transactions or reservation of the cars. The existence of
the online car rental systems nowadays has overcome the limitation of the business
operation hour. However; there is still a few numbers of these online car rental systems
in Malaysia and most of the systems offered reservation service for tourists or traveler.
Besides that, there are some customers who faced a problem in choosing car to be
rented which suitable with some of the important requirements.1. To rent a car a
prospective renter must first go to the nearest office to register as a client.2. Cars that
provide difficulties to rent out are normally advertised in local or national newspaper.it
involves a lot of paper work and consumes time.

1.4 Assumption & Constraint

Assumptions:
The Destination Travel System will be able to handle seats reservations in vehicles
which will be provided by drivers. A driver will register and login to the system. He will
be facilitated with the functionality of providing rides services. Driver will start ride by
providing pickup location, dropoff location , available seats and price per seat. Once
driver starts ride the data will be stored to database. Now a passenger will register and
login. He will be facilitated with the functionality of booking ride. When a passenger
clicks on book-ride to reserve a seat or seats in a vehicle by online reservation or
booking. The system must be able to look for matched available vehicles on the basis of
pickup location and dropoff location. The passenger will see the list of drivers along with
available seats. Once he reserve a seat or seats the data will be stored to database and

13 Destination Travel System

that data will be show to driver on his dashboard. There also will be a chat functionality
between driver and passenger. Admin will be watch man of both of them.

Constraints:
Destination Travel System is an online system for reservation of seat or seats in vehicle
provided by drivers. It means it is totaly web based system and internet is required. A
lots of drivers in Peshawar are not aware of internet and this is the one of the
constraints on online Destination Travel System I think. So Destination Travel System
will be more valuable in those cities where internet facilities are easily available and
people are closely aware of internet.

1.5 Project Scope

Destination Travel System is a system which will be tested by the public users. Then the
fully functional system will be delivered to the end user after the evaluation and the
system testing. It functions as a system which storing, processing and handling entities
information and the information of the most valuable assets which is reservation.

The admin is the one who has full control and authority to control the privilege and
update the propose system from time-to-time. In addition, they also required to ensure
that the different type of user access via their permitting level.

The unregistered members or users are restricted to reserve, view, update or delete any
information about the registered members’ information such as seat reservation history.
They are allowed to view the latest promotion made by admin.

In addition, the registered members are allowed to update their personal information if
necessary with their own valid username and password through the proposed system.
Each of the updated personal information will be stored and kept in company’s
database and categorized it as confidential information. And, the admin will not sale
their customer’s information to any third party to earn extra income.

CHAPTER 02
REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS
2.1 Literature review / Existing system study
Uber taxi booking app is introduced in March 2009, this app provides user an ease to
book their taxis from there remote locations. Application will automatically find nearby
available driver. After ride is confirmed a live map tracking of taxi can be seen by
passenger. The drawback of this application is most of the time driver and ride details
are not correct.
Careem is another taxi booking app introduced in 10 countries. It is moreover similar to
uber, it provides you every single information regarding your ride which makes users
more comfortable. Drivers in Careem service are well mannered. Drawback of this
service is that it is expensive than Uber and many users who are not familiar with
touchscreen faced problem while using it.
Now what’s makes Destination Travel System different from Uber and Careem is that
the passenger can use this app for local transport. A driver will be providing his services
and passenger will book seat to his destination.

2.2 Stakeholders List (Actors)

The term stackholder refers to the entities in the system. As we discussed for several
times above that there are three entities in our system which are:

Admin
Admin is the administrator which is responsible of monitoring of whole system.
Driver
Driver is the second important entity which is providing transport services.
Passenger
Passenger is the third most important entity whom is using services provided by
the drivers.

2.6 Software development life cycle model

A Software development life cycle model can be defined as a sequence of

activities that is systematically required to achieve the objectives of a project. It
describes the sequence of activities necessary to solve a problem. In this
chapter, the methodology selected will be described along with the description of
each phase in details. The approach in accordance with the objectives and scope
of the project is essential to ensure progress and development of the project can
be implemented or carried out smoothly and systematically.

2.6.1 Prototype Model

21 Destination Travel System

Prototype model is a model that allows users to interact directly with the system
as a step in testing the system. However, a prototype is not a fully completed
system but only has some of operative functions which involve interaction with
users of the system. Through this methodology, users can identify their
requirements of the systems to be developed and to examine whether the
system meets their needs or not [8]. For the development of this system, the
chosen methodology is System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) that that uses
the Prototype Model. Results of a study conducted by relating the system to be
developed, the Evolution Prototype model is more appropriate to be used than
the waterfall model. The main purpose of the model chosen is repetition can be
made to meet the needs of users.
Following four phases were followed.

Planning Phase
Among the activities involved in this phase is the selection and determination of
the title of the project developed, determine the objectives, scope, expected
results and statement of the problem. The problems faced in the current system
have been identified through observation and early study in the selected
organization. Interviews are also conducted with some of the taxi drivers at Taxi
Association Batu Pahat. From interviews and observations, hence the objectives
and scope of the project are identified. All the activities involved in the project
development process is structured and designed in accordance with the
scheduling and planning made through a Gantt chart. Project scheduling is done
so that time is estimated for a smooth process.

Analysis Phase
In this phase, there are several factors that need to be analyzed such as all
information or data gathered. The literature is also analyzed to compare the
existing system with similar systems. In addition, an analysis of the hardware and
software requirements as well as the programming language used is also
performed

Design Phase
During the design phase, the activity involved is a process in which the design of
the system is made. The purpose of this phase is to translate the functions in the
requirement specification to software components, which then produces a
system that meets the quality requirements in the most effective approach.
Interface and database design are available to describe entities, attributes and
relationships between entities of the system.

22 Destination Travel System

Implementation and Testing Phase
All software, hardware and application program are utilized to convert or translate
the design sketched in the form of program code by using the hardware and
software requirements that have been clarified. Then, the final process is testing
the proposed system where a user must test to ensure the system is free of error
and can function according to user requirements. This phase involves testing the
primary functions of the customer and administrator side. If there are errors or
problems during the test run stage, the system needs to be improved so that it
can function properly and meet consumer needs.

5.2 Unit/Integration/Acceptance Testing

Unit Testing
The goal of unit testing is to isolate each part of the program and show that the
individual parts are correct. A unit test provides a strict, written contract that the
piece of code must satisfy. As a result, it affords several benefits. The test team
take 5 to 10 minute to test a single module. Most of the test case are done by the
unit testing method.

Integration Testing
All the components which are selected for testing. first of the test team are check
those components for if there some are defected the test are not being done well.

Acceptance Testing
This is a set of acceptance criteria—conditions that must be met before testing
can begin. If any particular, specialized test cases listed in other test case
document can be used here. The test manager done it he first lists down all the
test case and he decided to which test case are doing and which tools are using
for the test case

CHAPTER 05
CONCLUSION & SUMMARY

38 Destination Travel System

5.1 Problems faced and lessons learned

It was an amazing experience while starting work on Destination Travel System. We

faced a lots of problems and learnt more than enough lessons. After completion of
analysis we were confused that which programming language will be better for
developing Destination Travel System. After research we found that Javascript will be
suitable for our project. And we started frontend with React Js (a javascript library)
which is nowadays first option of frontend developers. We developed backend with
Node Js (a runtime javascript). Hence selecting tools were crucial phase.
The second crucial problem we faced was integrating Google Map API. We were adding
pickup location and dropoff location and the locations must comes from the Google
Map. Integrating Google Map API in Javascript was really amazing.
Adding payment method was another crucial experience. While we were working with
payment we got stuck in two options. Payment stripes and Paypal or Payoneir which
one would be better. We learnt that in Pakistan payment stripes would be more friendly
for common users.
The most curcial and the most interesting section was that that how users will
communicate with each other and the answer is clear which is integrating chat
functionalities. We faced issues while we were integrating chat but we learnt a lot also.
We learnt that people also use third party chat API. We also tried with third party chat
API but wasn’t so efficient. We created our own one to one chat then.

6.2 Project summary

Destination Travel System (DTS) is an app created for organization that is responsible
to manage the transportation in any field of life such as Schools, Colleges, Offices and
etc.
It’ll manage the operational of the transportation in matter of booking transport.
Destination Travel System (DTS) is developed to manage the operational of the
transportation in matter of booking process.

39 Destination Travel System

Destination Travel System (DTS) is a web application. The significant of the system
allows the admin, staff, normal user and driver to check the availability of transport
directly.
Data will be stored in a database. To develop this system, Rapid Application
Development (RAD) model had been chosen as a methodology.
Hopefully this system can be really helpful and provide services and satisfaction to the
user.
Destination Travel System (DTS) is a system to effectively manage information about
customer profile and make reservation easily.
It will manage the transportation system for any field such as Institutions, Hospitals,
Offices and etc.
Customer also can see types of transport that can be booked with faster and make the
choice of the transport.
Customer does not need to register many times because the customer’s profile has
been saved into database.
This systems focus as a reservation form and latest information about the transport
availability.
The Destination Travel System (DTS) will acquire information which will be provided in
reservation form that user request.
The data must include pick-up date, drop-off date, transport types, how long to rent,
method of payment, and etc.
This data must be sent to supplier rental companies. The DTS will also control the user
request that must be completed by customer.
Customer’s profile can be updated any time. When user completes it, the data must be
submitted to the rental companies system.
Destination Travel System (DTS) improves operations from procurement to freight
settlement.
It helps streamline transportation operations and reduce cost. It also provides greater
visibility and control over the entire process.
There are five overviews in the Transport Management such as procurement, planning,
execution, global trade management and freight settlement.

40 Destination Travel System

The procurement gaining the greatest value from transportation spends starts long
before load to route or a shipment to tender.
Planning is very important thing to create the optimal plan to maximize saving and
services.
The execution capabilities have to be not only comprehensive but also highly agile. In
global trade management, it needs to keep up with the latest regulations, paperwork
and compliance issues.
It reduces cost, risks and delays. Freight settlement where user does not has to pay
twice for freight
