1. OBJECTIVES:
● To produce a sine wave output signal and observe frequency
using feedback obtained from the resistor and capacitor
combination without providing any input.
[Link]:
2.1. RC Phase shift oscillator:
The basic RC Oscillator which is also known as a Phase-shift Oscillator,
produces a sine wave output signal using regenerative feedback
obtained from the resistor capacitor combination. This regenerative
feedback from the RC network is due to the ability of the capacitor to
store an electric charge. The general equation for frequency of RC
phase shift oscillator derivation can be expressed as
f= 1/2πRC√6
Where, R is the Resistance (Ohms),C is the Capacitance.

2.2. Wien Bridge oscillator:
The Wien Bridge oscillator is a two-stage RC coupled amplifier circuit that
has good stability at its resonant frequency, low distortion and is very easy to
tune making it a popular circuit as an audio frequency oscillator but the
phase shift of the output signal is considerably different from the previous
phase shift RC Oscillator.
The Wien Bridge Oscillator uses a feedback circuit consisting of a series RC
circuit connected with a parallel RC of the same component values
producing a phase delay or phase advance circuit depending upon the
frequency.
The general equation for frequency of Wien Bridge oscillator derivation can
be expressed as ,
f= 1/2πRC

3. EQUIPMENTS USED:
1. Resistor 6. Ic(747)
2. Connecting wires 7. Capacitors(0.168 ℳF)(3)
3. Breadboard
4. Oscilloscope
5. Jumper wires
4. METHOD AND PROCEDURE
4.1. The RC phase oscillator
● The Ic was taken which was kept in between the half shadow
line of the bread board so there is on shortage of voltage.
4
● +Vcc was connected to the pin no 7 of Ic and –Vcc was
connected to the 4 pin no of Ic.
● The one terminal of the 1k ohm resistor was connected to the
pin no 2 of Ic and the other terminal to the capacitor.
● The three capacitors were kept in series with each other and in
between them the resistors were kept in parallel with each other.
● One terminal of the resistors was kept grounded.
● The one terminal potentiometer was connected in pin no 2 and
the other terminal to pin no 7.
● The pin no 3 of Ic was grounded.
● Then, from the oscillator the frequency was noted.
4.2. The Wien Bridge oscillator
● The one terminal resistor was ground and the other terminal was
connected to pin no 2 from same terminal another resistor
having resistance 22.2kΩ was connected.
● The other terminal of resistor(22.2kΩ) was connected to pin no
6 in same pin no the resistor(1kΩ) was connected other terminal
was connected to capacitor.
5
● The pin no 3 was connected between the connection of the
capacitor.
● From there the resistor was also connected and the one side of
the resistor and capacitor was grounded.
● The frequency was noted from the oscillator..

Fr(th) (theoretical frequency)= 386.95Hz
Fr(pr) (practical frequency) = 334.85Hz
5.2. CAlCULATIONS:

7. CONCLUSION:
From the above experiment finally, we can conclude that RC
oscillators are mainly used to generate signals in a wide range.
The range of frequency can be changed from Hz-200 Hz by using
resistors as well as capacitors. In conclusion, the Wien Bridge
oscillator is easy to understand in theory, but the practicalities of the
circuit can cause the designer frustration.
