Alexander Reinagle was an English composer and pianist who settled in Philadelphia, USA, in 1786, working as a teacher and theatre musician.
The original title of this piece is ‘Minuetto’ – Italian for minuet, a dance in moderate triple time. It originated in 17th-century France, but later
became popular throughout Europe.
