Today Tutorial:
Properties of DT signals
[1] Determine whether or not the signals below are periodic
and, for each signal that is periodic, determine the
fundamental period.

[2] Classify the following signals according to whether they are (1)
one- or multidimensional; (2) single or multichannel, (3) continuous
time or discrete time, and (4) analog or digital (in amplitude). Give a
brief explanation.
(a) Closing prices of utility stocks on the New York Stock Exchange.
(b) A color movie.
(c) Weight and height measurements of a child taken every month.
BITS Pilani, Deemed to be University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956
SOLUTION
(a) One dimensional, multichannel, discrete time, and digital.
(b) Multi dimensional, multi-channel, discrete time, and digital.
(c) One dimensional, multichannel, discrete-time, Analog.

[3] An analog signal a xa(t) = sin(480πt) + 3sin(720 πt) is
sampled 600 times per second.
(a) Determine the Nyquist sampling rate for xa(t).
(b ) Determine the folding frequency.
(c) What are the frequencies, in radians, in the resulting
discrete time signal x(n)?
(d) If x(n) is passed through an ideal D/A converter, what is the
reconstructed signal ya(t)?
BITS Pilani, Deemed to be University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956
SOLUTION
(a) 720
(b) 300
(c) (4/5)*π
(d) The output will have only frequency of
sin(480 πt)
