• “LGBTQ”?
“QUILTBAG”, which means
“Queer, Unsure, Intersex, Lesbian,
Transsexual, Bisexual, Asexual, and Gay.”!
• Credibility: Gay-Straight alliance, feminist
discussion group!
• Specific purpose: To inform my audience
about the variety of sexual orientations that
occur in our society.!
• Partition Statement: I won’t be exploring
gender issues in this speech, but I will tell
you about homosexuality, bisexuality,
pansexuality, and the term ‘queer’. !
• Homosexuality: defined as interest in the
same gender, most well-known and
recognized!
• Bisexuality: two or more sexes (male,
female, or trans)!
• Most attacked by both heteronormative
and gay community!
A. “unsure” or “not trustworthy”, can’t
choose and decide to hoard them all.!
B. any heterosexual may be attracted to
more than one person in their life, so
bisexuals may be attracted to people
who happen to have different sexes.
Don’t fall in love with genitals,
people!!
• Pansexuality; Merriam-Webster “exhibiting
or implying many forms of sexual
expression”. !
C. better defined as “a sexual
orientation characterized by a
potential aesthetic attraction,
romantic love and/or sexual desire
for anybody, including people who do
not fit into the gender binary of male/
female implied by bisexual
attraction.” (Queer Dictionary)!
D. all genders, not sexes!
E. personality before physical!
• Queer is a neutral, broad term used to
identify all non-hetero sexualities. (Pinar)!
F. Originally, it was used as an offensive
and derogatory term against
homosexuals, but the gay community
adopted it.!
G. It is now used as a unifying umbrella
term for all oppressed sexualities.!
! Our heteronormative society doesn’t teach
•
us about other sexualities, which forces
queer people to struggle through self-
identification themselves, be they
homosexual, bi, pan, or anything else.
Keep in mind that these are just the more
common and simple sexualities.!
!Homo is not an insult, bi is not just a
geometry term, and pan is not just a kitchen
utensil.
