GAMES CARNIVAL BRIEF 2024/ 2025
GENERAL RULES
FORMAT
Some games will be played using a knock-out system and a play-off for third place.
The ties will be dependent on the previous year’s placings (1st vs 3rd, 2nd vs 4th).
PLAYERS
1. Players may be chosen from ALL LEVELS of the Secondary School (no Primary School students are allowed) .
2. Each sport except Water Polo, Table tennis, Squash, Tenis & Pickleball. must have the involvement of Freshmen students
3. List (and line-up sequence, where applicable) of players must be given 15 minutes before play is to start and may NOT be changed after that for ANY reason.
4. This list will then be applicable to ALL matches during the Carnival. Positions in a team game (e.g. netball, football, etc) may change.
*Any one player may only participate in ONE Sports Per Day/Group and ONE Open category ( 3 Games + 1 Open) .
*If a player is found to participate in more than TWO events or more than one sport from any one group, the House will have to forfeit that events involved.
*Venues and times will be released. Please make sure that your players are aware the venue(s) of their sport(s).
*Disqualification of late players will be at the discretion of the respective referee/umpire.
LITTERING
Litter in sports events can include discarded food containers, drink cups, Banner and other waste generated by spectators or players.
To address littering during sports events, here are some steps that can be taken :
During : Providing dustbins and rubbish bags at each venue for students to dispose of their trash is a practical and
effective approach to maintaining cleanliness
After : All event participants or players must stay and do post-event cleanup before they go back to class
Supporters and players must make sure their area are clean (No rubbish, banner or etc left after the event)
Infraction: 1 mark per day.
TEAM MANAGER
1. Responsible for registering the team on the day of the tournament. (Bring their registration form)
2. Make sure the team registration follow all the rules for Annual Games Carnival.
3. To ensure that the players are on the field or court 5 minutes before the game starts
4. Sport that required freshman in the team, the freshman students must play in the games.
5. To make written objections, if any occur protest to opposing players or the referee / umpire during or after the match
6. After the event finish, make sure all your players remain at the venue for post-event cleanup
a) Objections
i) The organizers AGC (Sports Dept) will accept all forms of objection from the team manager only. Any objection from the player or
team captain will not be entertained."
ii) Players and team captains must submit objections to the team manager (House Teacher) first. Then, the team manager can raise
the objection to the Sports Dept to investigate and make a decision."
b) Appeals
i) Appeals against any decision must be made after the event in writing only. Any verbal appeal will not be entertained.
ii) The Sports Committee will discuss with the tournament panel and representatives from sports houses who not involved in the incident
and the decision of the appeal jury is final."
iii) Appeal must be done within 30 minutes after the game finish. Otherwise will not be entertained
UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
Unsportsmanlike conduct in sports refers to behavior or actions by players, spectators, or even house teachers that violate the principles
of fair play, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct within the sporting context.
Such behavior is considered unacceptable in sports and often leads to penalties, fines, or other disciplinary actions.
- Taunting or Trash Talking: This involves insulting, mocking, or verbally abusing opponents with the intention of disrupting their focus or
causing emotional distress. It can create a hostile and unsportsmanlike atmosphere.
- Physical Altercations: Engaging in fights, shoving matches, or physical altercations with opponents is a clear violation of sportsmanship.
Such behavior can result in ejections, suspensions, or fines.
- Disrespecting Officials: Arguing excessively with referees or umpires, using offensive language, or showing disrespect towards
their decisions is a form of unsportsmanlike conduct. It undermines the authority of the officials and disrupts the game.
- Hate Speech or Discrimination: Any form of hate speech, racism, sexism, or discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, or
other factors is not tolerated in sports and is a clear violation of sportsmanship.
* Therefore, players shaking hands before and after a game is a compulsory practice in the Annual Games Carnival this year to
promote sportsmanship and respect among competitors. While it can help prevent unsportsmanlike conduct and maintain a positive atmosphere
ACTION

Penalty = 5 Points from total AGC points
* Implementing strict actions, including banning a player from the entire Annual Games Carnival, for serious unsportsmanlike conduct will
be taken. It sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated and upholds the integrity of the First House Cup Event.
ATTIRE
* All players must be in house attire: house t-shirts (where the only alteration allowed is the addition of jersey numbers) and sports shoes for netball,
badminton, & table-tennis. NO other house jerseys may be worn for these events.
* Sports/court shoes for Cempaka court games and football boot only allowed at field games.
* Football players must use a shin guard & glove for GoalKeeper
* Handball & netball players is optional to wear knee guard for safety
After their match, players may only change into another house t-shirt. Casual clothes and non-house school-issued t-shirts (eg expedition t-shirts)
are NOT allowed.
If there is no school t-shirt available in any one student’s size, the House Captain must inform the Head of Sports no later than ONE WEEK
before the scheduled game. In these cases, the student is allowed to wear an all-white t-shirt. After this, permission will not be granted and the
player will not be allowed to play without a house t-shirt.
Infraction: Match forfeiture.
Shorts, tennis skirts and trackbottoms of any (predominantly solid) colour are allowed. Denim and patterned bermudas are NOT allowed.
Footwear: Only sports shoes, strapped sandals - including toe-covered crocs (if wearing house attire) or normal school shoes
(if wearing school uniform) is allowed. Slippers and strapless sandals (including crocs flip-flops) are NOT allowed. Casual shoes
(including flats) are NOT allowed.
Boots, running spikes and any other shoes with studs/spikes are, under ANY circumstances, prohibited from use on the School building
Caps/hats and socks: Any kind is allowed. Preferably according to your house colours!

* Patterned bermudas (you are not on a Hawaiian holiday)

* Casual shoes (including girls' flats). Some sports shoes are styled as casual shoes - "casuals" here would be taken to mean shoes that would
* be unreasonable to be used for sports. Discretion lies with the Sports Department. To be safe, you should just wear normal sports shoes.
It is Games Carnival week after all. This particular rule was not made clear in 2010 and as such, penalties were not given. It will be
enforced strictly from 2011 onwards.
SECURITY
The Games Carnival is a (closed) private school event. Strictly no outsiders allowed. Except outside venue

MVP Criteria
Most Valuable Player (MVP) for a Annual Games Carnival event typically involves evaluating both performance and sportsmanship. Here are some criteria to consider:
- This award is open for freshman until junior 2 level
- 2 categories which are boy & girl

Leadership: Provides guidance and encouragement to teammates, even if they aren't the team captain.
Teamwork: Shows the ability to work well with others, putting the team’s success above personal glory.
Support Role: Contributes even when not in the spotlight (e.g., assists, defensive plays).
3. Sportsmanship
Fair Play: Adheres to the rules and displays integrity, respecting opponents and officials.
Attitude: Maintains a positive attitude, even when the team is losing or facing challenges.
Respect: Shows respect for all participants, including teammates, opponents, and referees.

Dodgeball Boys / Girls
Rules:
* All athletes must have one foot on the base line prior to an opening rush.
* Dodge ball kicks off with an official call of READY…. 1, 2, Dodgeball
* After the signal from the Head Marshals, Three (3) athletes from the right may run to retrieve Three (3) balls placed along the center line. The other Three (3) balls on the left belong to your opponent.
* A Foul Start is a violation when an athlete ran before the signal from the head marshal. A second Foul Start will result in all balls to be rolled to the opponents.
* All eliminated athletes must be stationed at the Return Area according to the first out, first in system.
* After retrieving the balls from the center line, the balls must be brought back to the attack line thereafter the balls are considered “live” balls. If the ball is not brought back to the attack line, the ball will not eliminate
* Catching a “live” ball in between legs or using any part of the body is also considered a valid catch. A “live” ball hitting several athletes simultaneously is caught before touching the ground or any other foreign is con
* Sudden Death apply is when the score is tied at the time when the game was over.Players cannot use the ball to block another ball as stated in
the rules till the opponent is out.
Netball
Format
-Offside: A player moving out of their own area (with or without ball).
-Over a Third: You cannot throw the ball over two transverse lines without interception.
-Out of Court: Occurs if the ball hits anything outside the court.
*A throw-in returns the ball into play (within 3 seconds) from outside the court line. Foot contact with the line is a foul throw.
*Players can receive the ball on one foot or two feet but hopping or dragging the landing foot is not allowed. The regulations allow movement of no more than 1.5 steps with the ball.
*Only the Goal Shooter or Goal Attacker may shoot the ball and they must be inside the goal circle to score. The ball must fall completely through the ringed hoop to be a goal.
Number of Players Per House Team: * Minimum 11, Maximum 15 (11 on the field).
Format:
* Big size field will be use
* Yellow card – 2 yellow cards equals a red card . 2 yellow cards accumulatively leads to an automatic ban for the first half of the next game. A red card in the game equals automatic ejection from the game and a

* Accumulation of points after the league will decide the winner for Football Games Carnival .

If Points are the same, Final ranking will be determine by Goal Difference.
If Goal Difference also the same, Rank will be determine by amount of yellow and red card recieved.
* Substitutions – Rolling substitutions. No maximum and minimum substitution. Any substituton must inform referee before any substitution can be made.
* Stoppages and Injuries are determined by the referee.
* Offside rule.
Format:
* Play is in the following order, where possible. Knockout system

Rules :
*The game starts with a coin toss to determine which player must serve first and which side they want to serve from.
*The server must then serve each point from alternative sides on the base line. At no point must the server’s feet move in front of the baseline on the court prior to hitting their serve.
* If the server fails to get their first serve in they may take advantage of a second serve. If they again fail to get their second serve in then a double fault will be called and the point lost.
* If the server clips the net but the ball goes in the service area still then let is called and they get to take that serve again without penalty. If the ball hits the net and fails to go in the service area then out is called and
* The receiver may stand where they wish upon receipt of the serve. If the ball is struck without the serve bouncing then the server will receive the point.
* Once a serve has been made the amount of shots between the players can be unlimited. The point is won by hitting the ball so the opponent fails to return it in the scoring areas.
* Points are awarded in scores of 15, 30 and 40. 15 represent 1 point, 30 = 2 and 40 = 3.
* You need 4 points to win a game. If a game lands on 40-40 it’s known as deuce. From deuce a player needs to win 2 consecutive points to win the game. After winning one point from deuce they player is on advan

Format:
* Play is in the following order, where possible. (However, this may be changed in the interest of keeping tie going as quickly as possible):

Format:
* Players must play 5 again 5. Points will be until 11
* Consist of 3 set (Best of 2 is the winner)
* Knockout system
* Player can be sub any time and it is rotational substitution
Rules :
* The game almost same like Volleyball but the skill involve is different
* Catching, throwing and spiking skill are involve in this game.
* They have 3 bounce maximum including blocking and double touch foul is applied
* To get the point, the ball must pass to another side using spiking skill
* Player are not allow to hold and throw the ball to get the point. (Spiking only)
* First ball after service cannot be directly block or spike by the opponent
Format:
* Play is in the following order, where possible. (However, this may be changed in the interest of keeping tie going as quickly as possible):

* Each match is best of 3 sets , 11 points match point . Deuce at 10-all. To win the deuce need two points gap ex: 12-10. Deuce maximum point is at 15.
Example if draw 14-14, first to fifteen wins the set as 15-14 no more deuce after 15 point. ( 6 points change side )
* The first house to win 2 matches wins the tie. After the tie is won, remaining matches (if any) need not be played.
9. No corner throws including ball blocked by GKs leaving goal line apart from inside the goal or perimeter. GK will take immediate goal throw.
10. Any 2 players excluded with brutality/fight with red card will be banned from the competition with any teams more than 2 players involved in the fight will be disqualified from the com
Substituion: * At any time in the game, a player may be substituted by leaving the field of play at the team’s designated substitution areas. The substitute may enter the field of play from the exclusion
Penalty Fouls (within 6m): (a) for a goalkeeper or other defending player to pull down the Goal post.
(b) for a defending player to attempt to block a shot or pass with two hands.
(c) for a defending player to play the ball with a clenched fist.
(d) for a goalkeeper or other defending player to take the ball under the water when tackled in 6 meters.

*The server’s arm must be moving in an upward arc when the ball is struck.
*Paddle contact with the ball must not be made above the waist level.
*The head of the paddle must not be above the highest part of the wrist at contact.
*A ‘drop serve’ is also permitted in which case none of the elements above apply.
*At the time the ball is struck, the server’s feet may not touch the court or outside the imaginary
extension of the sideline or centerline and at least one foot must be behind the baseline on the playing surface or the ground behind the baseline.
*The serve is made diagonally crosscourt and must land within the confines of the
opposite diagonal court.
Scoring
*Games played to 11 points, for 1 Set. Player/ Team who wins two sets wins the match
*When the serving team’s score is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) the player who was the server in the game for that team will be in the right
*when odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) that player will be in the left court when serving or receiving.
Two-Bounce Rule
*When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning,
and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning, thus two bounces.
*After the ball has bounced once in each team’s court, both teams may either
volley the ball (hit the ball before it bounces) or play it off a bounce (ground stroke).
*The two-bounce rule eliminates the serve and volley advantage and extends rallies.
Line Calls
*A ball contacting any part of any line, except the non-volley zone line on a serve,
is considered “in.”
Non-Volley Zone
*The non-volley zone is the court area within 7 feet on both sides of the net.
*It is a fault if, when volleying a ball, the player steps on the non-volley zone,
including the line and/or when the player’s momentum causes them or anything
they are wearing or carrying to touch the non-volley zone including the associated lines.
*It is a fault if, after volleying, a player is carried by momentum into or touches the non-volley zone,
even if the volleyed ball is declared dead before this happens.
*A player may legally be in the non-volley zone any time other than when
volleying a ball.*
Faults
*A fault by the receiving team results in a point for the serving team (vice versa)
Determining Serving Team
*Any fair method can be used to determine which player or team has
first choice of side, service, or receive. (Example: coin flip, Rock Paper Scisors)

* Should there be a draw at full-time, no extra-time, penalty shoot-out (5 attempts), followed by sudden-death.
* Substitutions – Rolling substitutions. No maximum and minimum substitution. Any substituton must inform referee before any substitution can be made.
* Ball out of play from the side of the court, Play will resume with kick in on the spot where the ball goes out. Kick in must be pass to a teammate,
direct attempt to goal will not be counted.
* Ball out of play from a defending player to the back of the goal , Play will resume with a corner kick to the attacking team on the corner nearest
to where the ball went out previously.
* Ball out of play from an attacking team to the back of the goal , Play will resume with a keeper's throw.
* After a goal, Play will resume with centre kick off to the team that condeded the goal previously .
