I can use the full range of spelling, grammar and punctuation features that I have
been taught in previous year groups.

I can use the correct tense consistently.

I can use the present perfect tense.

I can use ‘a’ or ‘an’ correctly.

I can organise my writing into paragraphs around a theme.

I can create settings, characters and plot in my story writing. n/a

I can use simple layout devices in non-fiction, e.g. headings and sub-headings.

I can use conjunctions to express time, place and cause, e.g. when, before, after,
while, so, because, etc.
I can use adverbs to express time, place and cause, e.g. then, next, soon,
therefore, etc.
I can use prepositions to express time, place and cause, e.g. before, after, during, in,
because of, etc.

I can use subordinate clauses.

I can use inverted commas in direct speech.

I can spell a wider range of words with prefixes correctly, e.g. irrelevant,
autograph, incorrect, disobey, superstar, antisocial, etc.
I can spell a wider range of words with suffixes correctly, e.g. usually, poisonous,
adoration, etc.

I can spell homophones correctly, e.g. which and witch.

I can spell some of the year 3 and 4 statutory spelling words correctly.

I can use neat, joined handwriting.
