BOB HAWKE
COLLEGE

2024 Voluntary
Contributions
and Charges
ADVICE TO PARENTS
2024 Contributions and
Charges Schedule
Financial support by parents plays a significant role in providing
resources that extend the College’s capacity to add value to the
learning experiences of students. Bob Hawke College aims to keep
parent contributions as low and equitable as possible as outlined in
the Education Act 1999 and Department of Education Policy and
contributions are intended to support the extended and enriched
educational program. The contributions and charges schedule 2024
estimates are set at an upper limit and will not exceed this amount.

The College Finance Committee and College Board has approved

this schedule of Contributions and Charges for 2024. The Schedule
is broken into four sections: voluntary contributions, voluntary
approved request, personal items and extra cost options.

1. Voluntary Contributions
Voluntary contributions relate to the monies requested from parents
towards the cost of additional materials such as for cooking or crafts,
or services such as web-based resources. It provides resources that
extend the College’s capacity to add value to your students’ learning
experience. The Voluntary Contribution is $235 per student for years 7
to 10 and is distributed across learning areas to supplement
expenditure as outlined below.

Item Amount
Maths/English/Science/Humanities and $130.00
Social Science
Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) $5.00
CREW $5.00
Technology $23.75
The Arts $23.75
Health and Physical Education $23.75
Languages $23.75
TOTAL $235.00

All students are entitled to take part in a quality educational program

that meets the requirements of the Western Australian Curriculum and
Assessment Outline, regardless of whether parents make this
payment.
2. Voluntary Approved
Requests
The Parents and Citizens (P&C) Voluntary Approved Request is $100 per
student. The P&C contributed funds in 2023 to support purchases for the
library collection, musical instruments, seating for the music ensembles,
loan uniforms for College sporting teams and a contribution to the
acquisition of a bus. Join the P&C for more information about how they
support the College.

3. Personal Items List

There are items that students will use in the course of their learning
program. Bob Hawke College has selected Campion Education to
supply the items we suggest will be useful in class and at home. You
are free to select your own supplier, however Campion provides a cost
effective, convenient method of sourcing all your requirements in one
location. Delivery can be arranged direct to your home at a low cost.

The College receives a commission on all sales through the online

ordering platform which is directed back into the purchase of software
for students’ use.

Consider the environment and review the lists to purchase only the
items your student needs. The quantities provided are a guide for use
over the course of the year. You are encouraged to consider using
existing stationery and purchase as required in the event of additional
use or loss.

Students are not required to bring everything to class every day. The
lists have some guidelines and further detail is provided by the
classroom teacher and Bag Hack sessions in February.

[Link] Charges Year 11

Under section 99 of the School Education Act charges apply to all
courses in year 11. There is no maximum charge for year 11 and there
are no voluntary contributions requested. Table 1, Subject Charges
Year 11 provides individual costs for all subjects and should be paid
by Term 1 Week 6 (subject change due date) unless alternate
repayment arrangements are made.

5. Extra Cost Options

In addition to the core curriculum, the College will provide
opportunities for additional activities and experiences. Participation is
conditional on payment of the costs. These charges cover activities
such as excursions, camps, extra-curricular tuition not provided by
Department staff and elective subjects with high-cost materials or
services in years 7 to 10. Students who choose these subjects will be
required to pay for materials or select an alternate option.
Table 2, Extra Cost Options, provides detail on possible activities and
experiences and the upper limit that may be charged dependent on
student participation. You will be asked to pay these charges at the
time of providing consent for the event.

How to pay
This year, Campion Education will not be collecting Voluntary
Contributions on behalf of the College. You have the following options
to make payments;

• pay your Voluntary Contribution directly through your

Compass Parent Portal immediately using Visa or
Mastercard. Do not use this option if you are applying for
Secondary Assistance.
• call us to pay by Visa or Mastercard.

Financial Assistance
We understand families may need support in making payments to the
College. Payment plans can be established on Compass and direct
debit arrangements can be arranged to spread the cost across an
extended period of time. Additionally, the Department of Education
provides an allowance to assist eligible families with secondary
schooling costs. See the Secondary Assistance Scheme eligibility and
application for more information. In all cases, please contact the
Manager Corporate Services to discuss your needs.

Student Equity Fund

On behalf of the Bob Hawke College Board I am pleased to advise the
Pay it Forward Student Equity Fund continues into 2024. Parents and
carers are invited to contribute donations which are used to support
the educational experience of students who may be facing financial
challenges. Donations can be made at the time of payments for
Voluntary Contributions and Charges or on an adhoc schedule.

Parents, staff, students and community can request support. Apply to

access the Student Equity Fund here.
