INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
 Answer all the eight question in section A and the five from section B.
 All necessary working must be shown clearly.
 To be handed in when school resumes

SECTION A: (40 MARKS)


1. For a particular sample of size 10, the sample mean, x , was 0.5 and the sample
variance , S , was 4.8. Find x 2  for the sample. (05marks)

2. The following scores were obtained during the sports day competition by
different students’ houses in a certain school.;

42.2, 44.6, 47.5, 42.6, 51.4, 53.7, 56.8, 42.2, 59.2 and 61.7.

Find the;
(i) mean score (02 marks)
(ii) variance (03 marks)

3. Kadijat noted the weights, x grams of 30 chocolate buns. Her results are
summarized by ∑(𝑥 − 𝑘) = 315 , ∑(𝑥 − 𝑘)2 = 4022 , wherek is a constant. The mean
weight of the buns is 50.5 grams.

(i) Find the value of k. (03 marks)


(ii) Find the standard deviation of x. (02 marks)

4. The following values were recorded in a frequency table; ∑ 𝑓(𝑥) = 600 , ∑ 𝑓𝑥 2 =


10,000. The variance was calculated as 25. Find the total number of items that
were considered. (05marks)

5. Find the mean and variance of the first 10 fibonacci numbers (05marks)

6. Find the mean deviation for the set of numbers 10, 8, 7, 11, 14, 12, 15 (05marks)

7. A set digits consists of p zero’s and n four’s. Show that standard deviation of
4√𝑛𝑝
the digits is given by (05marks)

8.The table below shows the marks scored in a math test marked out of 5 by a
group of 30 S5 students in a certain school.

certain school in 2009.
