Module Leader: Mohammed Mansour Duration: 2.5 Hours
Answer ALL the Following Questions
1. Define the following terms: support your answer with drawing:
Azimuth angle Inclination angle BUR DOR TVD
HDT Slant DLS.
2. Write about the following:
- Radius types in horizontal wells.
- Factors affecting mud weight for directional drilling.
- Parameters that increase the rate of building.
3. A directional well S-type I, with the following data: Kickoff Point 2,000 feet TVD,
Horizontal Departure 2,926 feet, Direction of Departure S 40°W, Rate of Building 2.5°/100
feet, Rate of Dropping 2°/100 feet, use inclination angle of 24, Determine: Measured
depth for building section and dropping section, Horizontal departure for each section,
North coordinate at target, East coordinates at target, Construct a top view and side
section.
4. Given: A horizontal well with a TVD target of 4,800 feet, Upper Build up rate equals the
lower build up rate = 12º/100 feet, Tangent section at 60º, Tangent section will be 50 feet
of TVD. Calculate the KOP?
5. The data in the table below was collected from a survey run at two stations: use the Radius
of curvature technique to complete the table.
MD, ft I0 A0 TVD ft N ft E ft
3000 20 E62N 3000 0 N 0 E
3300 40 E80N X X N X E
3600 80 E55N X X N X E
6. Complete the missing values in the table for a directional well section:
MD, ft A0 TVD, ft East, ft North, ft HDT, ft
3000 X 3000 0 0 X
3300 X 3299 3.6 20.6 X
3600 X 3596 27.6 54.8 X
3900 X 3889 53.9 113.3 X
5000 X 4952 196.3 357.9 X
The End of the Questions.
