Edition: 01
1. Overview
The voice intercom service is based on the use of loops (intercom loops) that group several users located
on a same ABC network.
The voice intercom service enables the user to:
- Permanently connect in monitoring mode to the loop(s) he subscribes to: in this case, he hears
users speaking but cannot speak.
- Connect in traffic mode to a loop: he is then heard by other users connected to this loop.
- Make or receive point-to-point calls (calls other than the voice intercom loop connection).
A voice intercom user can subscribe to several loops (27 maximum). Loops are configured by mana-
ging the set intercom profile. To connect to loops, the user uses a monitoring circuit. This is connected
to the voice intercom servers and ensures mixing of calls from the different loops and any point-to-point
calls. The monitoring circuit is supported by a GPA board DSP located on the same node as the user.
The voice intercom server is supported by a GPA board DSP located on the node where the server is
declared.
Point-to-point calls are made using multiline keys. A user can make or receive a point-to-point call
while monitoring one or more loops. However, the user cannot have a traffic mode connection to a
loop at the same time.
A voice intercom user must have a multiline 4035 or 4037 (IP-Phone) type set either with or without
an extension keypad.
A flow separation system parameter enables users (when not in hands-free mode) to hear:
- In the handset, the point-to-point conversation or the traffic mode loop.
- From the loudspeaker, monitored loops.
Voice links for a user’s voice intercom loop or monitoring circuit can be recorded.

2. Ergonomic factors
Each loop has a corresponding pair of keys, a "monitor" key and a "traffic" key. The number of key
pairs available for the voice intercom depends on whether there is an extension keypad or not (if the
set has an extension keypad, only the keys of this keypad are used for voice intercom):
- 4035 set with no extension keypad: 6 pairs (provided that the first 12 set keys are programmable
keys).

Monitoring keys
Traffic keys
- 4035 set with 20-key extension keypad: the 10 pairs of the extension keypad (if they are
programmable keys).
- 4035 set with 40-key extension keypad: the 20 pairs of the extension keypad (if they are
programmable keys).
- 4035 set with 60-key extension keypad: the first 27 pairs of the extension keypad (if they are
programmable keys).
If the set profile has less loops than there are intercom key pairs, only some keys are used for loop
supervision. The other keys remain in their initial configuration as programmable keys.
3. Starting the voice intercom service
Depending on user settings, activation mode can be:
- Implicit: the service is activated when the set enters service.
- Explicit: the service is activated by dialing a prefix.
When the voice intercom service is started up, the system checks that:
- The user has rights for the service.
- The user has a multiline 4035 or 4037 set with intercom keys that are programmable keys.

Functional description
- The user is given a profile in which the number of loops cannot exceed the number of key pairs
available on the set.
- A monitoring circuit is available on a GPA board of the node.
4. Recording
There are two recording modes:
- Eavesdropping on the UA link of a voice intercom user.
- At the PBX to record a user or a voice intercom loop.
In either mode, all voice links are recorded as soon as the set leaves idle state or the voice intercom
loop is in service.
4.1. Recording eavesdropping on the UA line
This solution requires use of an adapter unit with a high impedance output to the recorder.
The adapter unit –reference 3BD19160AC– is installed in parallel on the UA link of the voice intercom
set.
This solution requires no management.
Note: for the voice links of all loops (monitoring and traffic) and point-to-point calls to be recorded,
the flow separation system parameter must be deselected.
4.2. Recorder at PBX level
A recorder can be connected:
- To a user’s monitoring circuit; in this case, all loop voice links and user point-to-point calls,
including tones, are recorded.
- To a voice intercom server.
5. CPU switchover
On CPU switchover, node monitoring circuits are released, this results in the following types of call
being released:
- Between these monitoring circuits and the telephone terminals relying on them.
- Between these monitoring circuits and the voice intercom loops to which they are connected.
At CPU switchover, node voice intercom loops are released, resulting in call release with users connec-
ted to the node.

Loop number is the position of the key pair used for supervision of the voice intercom set. If there are
less loops than available key pairs, keys that remain free stay configured as programmable keys when
the voice intercom service is activated.
The rank of the last loop to be completed must not exceed the number of available key pairs.
Example: If the directory number for loop 1 is left blank, the first two keys are not used for the
voice intercom service.
If the directory number for loop 7 is entered and the user has a 4035 set without extension keypad,
service activation will be refused.
Note: All keys available for voice intercom, whether they are used for loop supervision or not, must be
programmable keys, otherwise voice intercom service activation will be refused for the set.
Note: If the voice intercom service is already activated on the set, profile modifications are applied
after going to the idle state (disconnection of all loops and no point-to-point call set up).
3.3. Telephone feature categories

4. Managing monitoring circuits on a GPA board
On all nodes with voice intercom users, conference circuits must be planned for to support the moni-
toring loops.
Circuit size can be set. A DSP can support, either a circuit of 30, or two circuits of 15, or three circuits
of 10.
A monitoring circuit is dynamically allocated to the user as soon as he leaves the idle state (i.e. the
voice intercom service is activated on the set and the user connects to a loop or makes/receives a
point-to-point call). The circuit is released when the terminal returns to idle.
