Science GRASP

The document discusses the construction and functioning of an electromagnet, highlighting the relationship between electric current and magnetic strength. It outlines the necessary materials and methods for experimentation, concluding that increased current enhances the electromagnet's strength while noting potential overheating issues. Recommendations for improvements include exploring various materials and documenting performance quantitatively under different conditions.

Introduction:

Electromagnet device consisting of a core of magnetic material surrounded by a coil

through which an electric current is passed to magnetize the core.
Electromagnet is important .It will be used in motors ,Generators, and sensors. Those
things are used usually in our life.
research question:
How does the size of current influence the strength of the electromagnet?

Factors Affecting the Strength of an Electromagnet:

Need to use:
Copper wire
Core Wire
Current generators
Temperature measuring tools
Electronic Scale

About
When an electric current passes through a coil of wire, it generates a magnetic
field around the coil.So we need to change the current and the other things do
not change like temperature, core wire ,and copper wire. principle:I=V/R

Conclusion: As the current increases, the other values remain constant and the gravitational
force of the electromagnet increases.
findings:
To make the electromagnet:
prepare:Batteries, long nails, copper
wire,Ammeter , Switch and paper clips

Wrap insulated copper wire around the nail in one

direction along the nail. The more turns the coil
has,the stronger the magnetic field will be.After
winding, leave a lead at each end.
Connect the two leads of the copper wire to the
positive and negative terminals of the battery.
Turn on the power switch, the current passing
through the copper wire produces a magnetic
field that turns the iron core into an
electromagnet.Use an ammeter to check the
current level. The higher the current the stronger
the magnetic field.
Attract small metal objects such as paper clips with the electromagnet and check the strength of
its magnetism with the number of them.
Caution:
The electromagnet may get hot when it is energized for a long time, so please be careful to
avoid overheating.

Advantage: By increasing the number of turns of the coil and the current strength, the magnetic
field strength can be increased.
Limitations: If the number of turns is too high it may reduce the current strength and affect the
increase in magnetic field strength. Using high currents may cause the coil to overheat. Certain
materials may not be readily available or may be more costly.

Improvements
Different and common coil materials, number of turns, power supply types and core materials
can be used to determine the best combination.
Use quantitative methods to document electromagnet performance and analyze it comparatively
under different experimental conditions.
