GeM, or Government e Marketplace, is the National Public Procurement Portal launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to digitize the procurement process for government entities. What is an Overview of GeM?

GeM stands for Government e Marketplace. It is the
National Public Procurement Portal, which has
basically digitised the entire procurement process.
Launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, it
simplifies the buying and selling of goods and services
for government departments, public sector enterprises,
and more.

The platform is designed to bring transparency,
efficiency, and inclusivity to the procurement process.
Sellers, especially underrepresented groups like Micro
and Small Enterprises, startups without prior
experience or turnovers, Women-led enterprises, can
list their products, while government buyers can easily
search and purchase directly from them.

December 2024, a total of 94L sellers/service
providers are registered on GeM, 11K Product
Categories, 339 Service Categories and a total of 1.5L
government buyers are there on the portal. GeM has
achieved the milestone of over 11L Crores lifetime

ASSOCHAM, FICCI, AIMA among others. GeM has
signed the MoUs with 28 States and 8 UTs as well as
multiple national financial institutions and banks like
SBI, PNB, BOI, Federal Bank, Kotak, CBI and many
more.
