1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to define the sequence and describes the minimum control procedures
to be followed for the structural steel erection work of AMIRAL project. This method statement shall serve as a
guideline for executing all activities associated with structural steel erection works.
2. SCOPE
This method statement is only valid for the erection of steel structure in AMIRAL project. Including the pipe-rack and
miscellaneous item. This method statement cover the sequence of work instruction that is utilized for handling,
assembly, erection, Levelling and installation of base plate, Bolt tightening, inspection and testing of steel structure
and associated activity in AMIRAL Project.

4. RESPONSIBILITY
Construction Manager
Construction Manager is responsible of assigning the resources necessary for the production, assignation of receiving
of materials, equipment and labor hand for the elaboration, transportation, pre-assembly, finishing of steel structure,
likewise is responsible for the correct application of present procedure.
Site quality control manager is responsible of verifying for the correct fulfillment of the guidelines, marked in this
procedure. As well to verify or testify the necessary tests and inspections.
Mechanical Superintendent responsible for supervising the activities required in this procedure.

HSE Supervisor
Safety supervisor will monitor the work with all the safety requirements in place.
Safety officer Secure that the work areas are in safety working condition and monitor properly from time to time the
implementation of safety procedure, requirements and assuring that all verify that equipment and tools inspected or
accepted for Saudi Aramco minimum requirements.
Structural Supervisor
Personnel who is responsible for all HSE matters and top study and review all necessary documents for the erection
Works in his area.
-All resources (labour, material, and equipment) are available to carry out the work as planned. -All personnel
involved has received a full awareness of MS and JSA
Surveyor
Personnel who will analyze where the location of structure should be installed.
5. REQUIRED RESOURCES.
Note: Tools and equipment should be in good condition and must be checked by competent
person and respective supervisor prior to use in the plant. Third Party vehicle and equipment
inspections and vehicle stickers required. Saudi Aramco certified where required.

6. PROCEDURES
6.1.1 All materials designated for the care, custody, and control of the erector shall be received, unloaded, stored, and
otherwise handled in a manner that prevents distortion, deterioration, damage, or staining. Materials shall be kept
free of dirt, grease, and other foreign matter.
6.1.2 Unless otherwise required by the buyer, all materials shall be inspected by the erector
immediately after receipt to ensure that the materials are not damaged, that all items on the
packing list have been supplied, and that all documentation has been received.
6.1.3 If any damage is discovered, or any parts, components, or documentation are missing or otherwise defective, the
occurrence shall be immediately reported to the buyer in writing.
6.2.1 Erection shall be in accordance with the drawings and other contract documents. All for steel
structure erection shall be performed in accordance with AMIITP/ AMIITR/ AMIIC.

AISC Manual of Steel Construction (ASD). AISC Manual of Steel Construction (LRFD). the AISC Code of Standard
Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges; Erection of Structural and Miscellaneous Steel Specification (PIP STS05130).
6.2.2 Any circumstances discovered by the erector that affect progression, performance, or completion of the erector’s
work activities such as discrepancies between the erection/shop drawings and the delivered steel members,
incorrectly fabricated steel members, or incomplete or unacceptable work of other contractors affecting the erector’s
work shall be immediately reported to the buyer in writing.
6.2.3 Any damage caused during erection shall be reported to the buyer. Corrective measures shall be completed as
directed by the buyer at no cost to the buyer.
6.2.4 Temporary erection loads or permanent loads shall not be placed on any incomplete portions of the structure being
erected unless the erector can demonstrate by analysis that the contemplated action is safe.
6.2.5 Loose timbers, metal sheeting, bolt buckles, tools, debris, and temporary scaffolding should all be kept restrained or
removed from work areas.
6.2.6 The erector shall be responsible for securing all equipment and materials within the erector’s care, custody, and
control during the erection operation.
6.2.7 The erector shall maintain the job site in a clean and safe condition at all times and shall properly dispose of, off the
premises, all crating, waste materials, and other refuse that has accumulated as a result of the erector’s activities
under this Practice.
6.2.8 Lifting of painted structural members shall be done with a nonabrasive choker.
6.2.9 The erector shall keep a daily record, by piece number, of all material erected.
6.2.10 Before commencing work, the erector shall check foundations and other connection points to confirm their
location, orientation, elevation, and condition.
6.3.1 The erector shall, at all times, be responsible for the adequacy and installation of any temporary bracing or guy
cables required to counteract loadings imposed during erection. This responsibility shall also extend to temporary
bracing required to ensure safe and stable conditions of partially completed structural assemblies.
6.3.2 The structure shall be plumbed, levelled, and braced before any final bolted or welded connections are made.

6.4.1 The erector shall clean the top of bearing surfaces and the bottom of base plates.
6.4.2 The erector shall set and shim column base plates to correct positions, elevations, and locations as shown on
the erection drawings. Shims or wedges may be used and shall be provided by the erector. If setting nuts are
used, they shall be loosened before grouting.
6.3.4 Grouting of base plates shall be in accordance with PIP STS03600 or PIP STS03601 and other contract
documents if this work is included in the erector’s contract.
6.3.5 When required on the drawings, anchor bolts shall be tightened to the specified tension. Anchor bolts shall be
fully tightened to the specified tension only after the base plates have been grouted.
7. INSTRUCATION.
7.1.1 To avoid materials being moved so much on jobsite that might cause unexpected damages of galvanization,
shapes, when material delivered to job site, they must be unloaded and arranged closed to the designed erection
point. The materials shall be stacked in near to the lifting position adjacent to the area to be erected. This is to
facilitate the sorting and delivery during the erection. The conditions of each job site, the material arrangement
plan may different but in generally, materials will be arranges as following principle to ease moving, combination
and erection after later.
7.1.2 Members should be checked as packing list enclosed before unloading for best unloaded positions.
7.1.5 Small components (nuts, bolts, clips, fasteners etc.) are stored in a closed box.
7.1.6 All material supply shall supply shall comply with the project material specification, applicable AMIES-B-054
and reference Industry/Code.
7.1.7 Care must be taken during receiving /unloading to prevent any damage such as distortion.
7.1.8 Material/member must have unique identification mark in accordance with the applicable drawing, in conjunction
with QA documents.
7.1.9 Responsible personnel for the incoming material together with QC inspector conduct a joint inspection for
verification of the accuracy and compliance of the delivered materials.

7.1.10 Any discrepancies have notice during inspection that beyond the acceptable tolerance shall be mark for traceability
and place in separate location.
7.1.11 Secure the report of the identified items that considered as defective. Inform the client for the situation for further
decision and possible action to be taken.
7.1.12 Temporary storage area shall be well established and maintained its stability to ensure material to be stored shall
keep free from any damage. Material shall protected from accumulation of dirt and foreign material that lead for
un- acceptable level.
7.1.13 Material storage area shall be divided in accordance with material type and in respect for sequence of activity
related to stored materials.
7.2.1 Check all necessary reference and construction drawing (IFC) ensure that all in latest revision.
7.2.2 All transported members of the structure subject for erection are accepted meet the required inspection of preceding
phase of work scope.
7.2.3 All required work permits shall be obtained from the responsible organization.
7.2.4 Check foundations and other connection point to confirm their locations, coordinates and elevations, verify
supporting documents of dedicated structural foundation ensure shall comply with the specific project requirement.
7.2.5 Any damage member of the structure caused during erection shall be reported to the specific organization and an
approved corrective measure shall be applied to rectify such damage.

7.2.6 Any mismatched holes for bolting shall be repaired in accordance with approved repair procedure and within the
allowable tolerance.
7.2.7 When using ASTM A307 bolt assemblies for connecting appurtenances to structural steel members, the bolts shall
be tightened to a snug tight condition.
7.2.8 The construction personnel shall maintain the job site in a clean and safe condition at all times and shall properly
dispose of all crating, waste material, that are accumulated as a result of the erector’s activities under this CMS.
7.2.9 Auxiliary material dedicated for erection shall meet the minimum requirement.
7.2.10 Loose timbers, metal sheeting, bolt buckles, tools, debris and temporary scaffolding shall be kept restrained or
removed from works areas. The erector shall be responsible for securing all equipment and materials within the
erector’s care, custody and control during the erection operation.
7.3.1 Concrete surfaces shall be chipped off to exposed aggregate to a minimum of 25mm from its top or as per
applicable project specification. Chipping shall be done after 7 days age of concrete pedestal. As long as the
concrete has achieved at least its specified percentage strength, we can erect the steel structure after 7 days age
concrete.
7.3.2 All dust and loose particles caused by chipping shall be removed.
7.3.3 Clean the top of the padding surface and bottom of the base plate before installation.
7.3.4 Anchor bolt projection to be checked prior to column installation. Ensure that comply for the specific requirement
of length of projection.
7.3.5 Grouting of base plates should be done after alignment, bolt tightening, and final inspection of erected structural
steels.

7.3.6 Anchor bolts shall be fully tightened to the specified tension. If tension is not specified, the erector shall paint the
Equivalent to the snug- tighten condition in steel connections, i.e., the full effort of an ironworker using on ordinary
wrench.
7.4.1 As per site condition and based from construction reference drawing (IFC), erection shall be done in sequence that
are much accommodated and safe condition.
7.4.2 To minimize work activity at elevated area, assembly of column, members and it’s bracing shall be done at the
ground level.
7.4.3 Verification of component/member subject for assembly shall be in accordance with updated construction drawing
(IFC), Check the assembled condition performed by responsible inspector (dimension within acceptable level of
tolerance) prior to any successive connection of member.
7.4.4 Erection of columns and steel frames (pre-assembled) of structure can be done in pair state, guy wire and sufficient
supports shall be provided in order to maintain the stability of erected pair of column at the same time without any
effect to its foundation and to ensure that in safe condition of partially completed erected structure.
7.4.5 The structure members to be assembled shall be within range of lifting capacity of crane, to consider the safe and
stable working conditions.
7.4.6 Scaffolding shall be provided in each erected column that serves as for the installation of other member (beam) of
the structure in safe and accessible working condition. Manlift also can be used as an alternative method, where it is
applicable.
7.4.7 Construction team install members of steel structure by the scaffolding, ladders, ascent and descent trap, by man
basket.
7.4.8 Pre-assembled members shall be stored on lifting area for easily rigging of them.

7.4.9 Must be ensured that permanent or temporary erection loads shall not be placed on any incomplete portions of the
structure being erected unless it is safe and approved by the HSE department.
7.4.10 Standard erection procedure shall be carried out until the completion of steel structure works which includes
compliance with safety process, proper work permits, detailed and approved rigging plan, assembly lift plan and
scaffolding plan.
7.4.11 Construction personnel shall be responsible at all time for the adequacy and installation of any temporary bracing
or guy cables required to counter-act loadings impose during erection. This responsibility shall also extend to
temporary bracing required to ensure safe and stable conditions of partially completed structural assemblies.
7.4.12 The structure shall be completed to plumbed, leveled, and braced before final tightening of bolt.
7.4.13 After completion of steel erection, plumbness checking and alignment of erected structure shall commence from
Grid lines until the alignment and plumbness of all columns have been checked and corrected.
7.4.14 Plumbness/alignment checking and correction works shall progress continuously after erection of structure until it
reaches.
7.4.15 Alignment inspection for completed steel structure shall be done prior to welding and final bolting tightening.
7.4.16 QC inspection shall follow to verify alignment and plumbness records as per TIP.
7.4.17 steel structure shall be totally inspected for accuracy of construction and to ensure that all dimensions are as
specified.
7.5.1 Bolting materials shall be thoroughly checked to ensure that the correct bolt types and sizes shall be in accordance
of project material specification.
7.5.2 Mechanically galvanized bolts and nuts shall not be intermixed with those of hot-dip galvanized.

7.5.3 Check all members of the structure to be connected though bolting. Check bolt holes dimension, location and
orientation of member to be bolted in accordance with construction reference drawing (IFC).
7.5.4 Clean the surface of all bolted connections. It shall be free from any loose mill scale, dust, oil and other
contaminants that can obstruct for proper fit up and alignment.
7.5.5 No permanent bolting shall be carried out unless the final location and alignment has been obtained.
7.5.6 Upon identification of the types of bolts to be use and associated matters mentioned from the preceding step,
alignment of the members of the structure, subsequent by bolting work will proceed as the condition is cleared and
accepted.
7.5.7 For bearing type connection, bolt torque shall be done in two stages. First, is the initial torque wrench valve
achieved with impact wrench and then the final torque valve achieved with torque wrench as per manufacturer
recommended data/or torque value.
7.5.8 For the pretension joints or the slip-critical joints, the installation torque determined from the pre-installation
verification shall be performed daily.
7.5.9 For connections, erection and bolting of other member, scaffolding shall be provided per column erected and other
auxiliary for bolting of beam or other member of structure for accommodated working condition. Using of man
basket or man lift shall be optional.
7.5.10 The construction personnel shall mark the ends of the bolts when properly applied the required torque value
given/recommended by the manufacturer and if it is ready for inspection.

7.6.1 Work methodology for these components shall be determined in accordance with the finish work sequence of the
major components (column and beams).
7.6.2 All gratings and floor plates shall be fastened as per construction drawing requirements/project requirements (IFC).
A minimum of four fasteners per panel shall be used.
7.6.3 Serrated bar gratings shall be used at all locations. It shall be removable unless otherwise specified in the IFC
drawing.
7.7.1 installation of stair will start form the lower up to the upper portion.
7.7.2 The stringers and stair treads shall be pre-assembled at ground. Handrail may also be
included in the pre- assembly process if no obstruction has been checked such as the
pipes that may cause difficulty during installation. Perform welding to welded
connection portion.
7.7.3 While the stringer and stair treads are being erected, landing platforms will be pre-assembled at ground. Handrails
for platforms may also be included in the pre-assembly if no obstruction has been checked such as existing pipes
that may cause difficulty during installation.
7.7.4 Using crane, lift the assembly and install at its position shown on the erection drawing.
7.7.5 Check squareness, levelness and alignment of the installed assembly as required.
7.7.6 Start splicing of the stringer, stair tread and landing platform assembly. Connect as shown on erection drawing
connections detail. Manual tightening of all connections will follow.

7.8.1 Handrails to be delivered at site shall be pre- assembled and ready for erection.
7.8.3 Using crane, lift the handrail assembly and install to position as per IFC drawing.
7.8.4 When location is not accessible by manlift and man basket from crane, install scaffolding. Use manual pulley and
chain blocks for installation.
7.8.6 Tighten all bolt connections to snug-tight condition using manual wrench.
8.1 Inspection and testing shall be conducted and recorded in accordance with the AMIRAL Typical Inspection Plan.
Reports and record shall be documented as per the applicable AMIRAL Inspection and Checklist/Test Report.
9. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
9.1.4 All workers working at elevation must be provided safety harness and life line must be installed if required.
9.1.5 All worker working in construction area shall wear the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during work and all
materials, tools and vehicles to be used for this work shall be maintained in good condition.
9.1.6 Steel work will be lifted into position using suitable certificate lifting shackle and equipment.
9.1.7 Contractor shall provide safety equipment as necessary according to an evaluation of expected needs during
construction. This applies to temporary fire extinguishers, first aid equipment, stretchers etc.
9.1.8 Working at height place obeys the following Health, Safety and Equipment (HSE) manual for construction.

9.2.1 Approved work permit should be obtained prior to the start of any structural Works.
9.2.3 When moving, loading and unloading materials, workers will be enforced to keep caution in order to prevent slips,
trips and falls during material handling.
9.2.6 All operators (crane, manlift, and forklift) and riggers should be Aramco Certified.
9.2.7 Ensure that all the workers are already instructed in their specific job and location.
9.2.8 The entire workers are qualified for the job like crane operator, Manlift Operator, Forklift Operator, rigger, erector,
etc.
9.2.9 The location of erection should have barricades in the radius of crane and have precaution sign board around the
area of lifting.
9.2.10 The installation of heavy material will be carried out in accordance with the approval of the subcontractor rigging
supervisor.
9.2.11 All lifting work will be closely supervised with a trained rigger in attendance.
9.2.12 Trained banks men/slingers will be used to control the lifting operations.
9.2.13 Safe means of access onto steel work will be provided and maintained.
9.3.1 The work areas on Company’s site that is being used by Contractor shall be kept clean at all times.
9.3.2 The accumulation of packaging, off cuts, debris and other unwanted materials will not be allowed.
9.3.3 Waste should be removed at regular intervals and always at the end of a working shift. Metal bins with close-fitting
lids should be provided by the contractor for oily rags, wood shavings, and other combustible wastes and use of
non-combustible absorbents to remove spills or leaks of oil is recommended.
