WHAT IS COMPUTER SYSTEMS?
• A computer system is a setup that consists of both
hardware and software components organized to perform
complex operations.
• These components include the central processing unit,
memory, input devices, output devices and the operating
system.
• A computer network is a system that connects two or more
computing devices for transmitting and sharing information.
• Computing devices include everything from a mobile phone to a
server. These devices are connected using physical wires such
as fiber optics, but they can also be wireless.

organize, and retrieve vast amounts of
information.

PLAGIARISM AND CHEATING
• Plagiarism is treated very seriously, and will result in
disciplinary action.
• Make sure you reference anything taken from books,
articles, or the internet.
• There is a plagiarism policy. Make sure you are
familiar with it.
• Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work as your
own.
• The policy describes the procedures and punishment.
• Do not try to cheat / share answers.
• Those who have tried previously got caught.
UKZN INSPIRING GREATNESS
SOME ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• Fair use policies
• Only use computer LANs for the intended
purpose (i.e., university work).
• There are practicals most days in the LANs.
Students who have a practical during that time
slot get preference.
