Biodiversityrefers to the variability andvariety ofdifferent species ofplants andanimals on Earth. This
variety contributes towards making ourplanet inhabitable. The reason forthe unequal distribution of
various organisms in differentparts ofthe world is due to varied climatic conditions. There is greater
terrestrial biodiversity near the equator and this is caused due to warn climate and high primary
productivity. On the other hand, marine biodiversity is highest along the coasts in the Western Pacific
as it has the highest sea surface temperature. Biodiversity basically clusters in hotspots and while it
has been on a rise though time researchers state that it is likely to slow down in the times to come.
