STUDY GUIDE & EXPECTATIONS
1ST TERM, 2024/2025
SUBJECT: INFORMATION AND
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) 0417
TEACHER’S NAME: MARVIN K. Y. AKPALU
TEACHER’S CONTACT:
marvinakpalu@[Link]
CLASS: YEAR 7
Aim
The aims are to enable students to develop:
An understanding of the basic components, use and application of different ICT
systems and networks.
the skills to analyze, design, implement, test and evaluate ICT systems.
the skills to understand the impact of current and new technologies on methods of
working in the outside world.
the ability to recognize potential risks when using ICT, and use safe, secure and
responsible practice.
Teacher Recommendations
The computer lab should be fully functional, i.e., all computers should be operational
and have all parts available for studies.
A list of students to be in class for attendance checking.
Syllabus be made available for students to read/ study before coming to class.
Promote openness and asking questions in class.
Communication is key. Learn not to fear asking questions and making sane
suggestions in class.
Policy on Coursework extensions and late submissions
Every assignment should be turned in the day after the assignment is given; by 7:45
am.
Where a student has self-certified and does not submit their work by the revised
submission date and time, zero marks will be awarded, unless a further extension has
been granted by the teacher.
NB: Self-certification should only be used where unforeseen circumstances mean a
student cannot submit by this date, such as illness or injury, or where a student’s Student
Support Document (SSD) states extensions as a reasonable adjustment.
Classroom Rules and Expectations
Respect for Teachers and Classmates: Respect is a two-way street. Respect in
the form of tone, body language, a non-argumentative spirit, and eye contact is
equally as important as the words we speak.
I expect students to have the trait of being neat and orderly.
Keep the surroundings well-organized and pay attention to details. A systematic
approach to tasks will be appreciated.
Do not bring water, drinks, non-teaching or non-learning materials not associated
with the course of study to class.
Be punctual and present for lessons.
Turn off and keep all electronic devices at the Administrator’s office.
Have study materials in your possession at the beginning of class.
Track your progress using learning objectives.
Attentiveness Is a Must: Always sit upright and remain attentive.
Turn assignments in on time.
Undertake all pre-lesson assignments well and promptly.
Stay in your seat until dismissed.
Make notes about the text and prepare questions.
Maintain self-control when participating in class discussion and activities.
NB: All classes have practical sessions where necessary.
