2. Differentiate between system software and application software.
3. Analyze how system software and application software work together to perform
tasks.
Recap Questions
1. What are the four main components of computer hardware?
2. What is the function of the CPU?

Lesson Content
Software is a collection of programs, instructions, and data that tell a computer
how to perform specific tasks.
Types of Software
System Software – Manages hardware and provides a platform for applications.
Application Software – Helps users perform specific tasks
System Software
Manage the computer hardware
Provides a platform for applications
Facilitates system communication
Examples:
• Operating Systems: Windows, macOS, IOS, Android
• Utility Software: Antivirus, Disk Cleanup, File Manager
• Device Drivers: Printer Driver, Graphics Driver
Application Software
Also called end-user software. designed to perform specific tasks for users.
Examples:
Productivity Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Multimedia Software: Netflix, Adobe Photoshop, Capcut.
Web Browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera.
Activity – "Tumpakners"
How to Play:
1. Form teams of two members each.
2. Teammates will stand back-to-back.
3. Each round, only one team will play while others observe. Teams will take turns.
4. The teacher will say or show the name of a software.
5. At the count of three (1...2...3!), both players will turn around at the same time
and say whether the software is System Software or Application Software.
6. If both players give the same and correct answer, they earn 1 point.
7. The next team will take their turn, and the game continues.
8. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!
Activity: "Invent-A-Software"
Instructions:
1. Choose a Software Type – Decide whether you want to create:
System Software (e.g., an operating system, utility program, or driver)
Application Software (e.g., a productivity app, multimedia software, or web
browser)
2. Invent Your Own Software – Be creative and think of a unique software solution
that does not yet exist or might help you on your daily task
3. Complete the Software Concept Sheet – Write down the following details:
1. Software Name (Be creative and catchy!)
2. Type of Software (System Software or Application Software)
3. Purpose & Features (What does it do? How is it useful?)
4. Target Users (Who will use it?)
5. How It Works (Briefly explain how it functions)
4. After 10 minutes Submit Your Work – Write your answers on your activity
notebook.
5. Sharing – Selected students may present their software ideas to the class.
