RS Aggarwal Solutions
Sudy Path Chapter 21: Collection and 0rganisation of Data
Exercise 21C

Question 1: Find the mode of the data:

(1) 10, 8, 4, 7,8, 11, 15, 8,6, 8
(ii) 27, 23, 39,18, 27, 21, 27, 27, 40, 36, 27
Solution:

(i) Arranging in ascending order:

4,6, 7, 8, 8,8, 8, 10, 11, 15
We see that 8 occurs maximum times
:: Mode =8

(ii) Arranging in ascending order:

18, 21, 23, 27, 27, 27, 27, 27, 36, 39, 40
We see that 27 occurs maximum times
Sludy
: Mode=27

Question 2: The ages (in years) of 11 cricket players are given below:
28,34,32, 41, 36, 32, 32, 38, 32, 40, 31.
Find the mode of the ages.

Solution: Arranging in ascending order:

28,31, 32,32, 32, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 41.
We see that 32 occurs maximum times

: Mode=32 years

Question 3: Daily wages of 45 workers in a factory are given below:

Daily wages (in t) 300 375 450 525 600

Number of workers 6 8 9 12 10

Find the median and the mean.

Using empirical formula, calculate its mode.
Solution: We prepare the table as given below:
Daily wages (in ?) Number of workers c.f.
(x)
300 6 6 1800
375 8 14 3000
450 23 4050
525 12 35 6300
600 10 45 6000

N=i=45 XGxx) =1:21150

21150
: Mean= EU Xx) -=470
45

Here, number of terms = 45,which is odd

N+1 45 + 1 46
: Median

Now, mode = 3(median) - 2(mean)
=3x 450 - 2 x 470
= 1350 -940
=410

Question 4: The following table shows the marks obtained by 41 students ofa class.
Marks obtained 15 17 20 22 25 30
Number of students 2 5 10 12 8 4
Find the median and mean marks.
Using empirical formula,calculate its mode.
Solution: We prepare the table as given below:
Marks obtained Number of students c.f. X}Xf
(x)
15 2 2 30
17 5 7 85
20 10 17 200
22 12 29 264
25 8 37 200
30 4 41 120
N=)i=41 f x x) = 899
: Mean= ZG; Xx) 899

Lf 41

Here, number of terms (N) = 41, which is odd

N+1 41+1 42
: Median = = 21th observation = 22

formula A
Using empirical f
Mode = 3 (median) - 2 (mean)
=3x 22 -2 x 21.92
= 66 -43.84
=22.16

Question 5: The following table shows the weight of 12 players:

Weight (in kg) 48 50 52 54 58
Number of players 4 3 2 2 1
Find the median and mean weights.
Using empirical formula, calculate its mode.
Solution: We prepare the table as given below:
Weight (in kg) Number of players c.f.
(x;)
48 4 4 192
50 3 7 150
52 2 104
54 2 11 108
58 1 12 58
