LESSON 7
PRESPOSITION – is a word that relates a noun or pronoun to another word in a sentence.
PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE – is a group of words that begin with a preposition and ends with a
noun or pronoun as objects of preposition. It tells time or places.

® We use between when referring to two persons or objects.
Example: Your bag is between Jojo and Juliet’s chair.

® We use on to refer to streets, avenues, etc.

The preposition, its object, and the modifiers of the object make up a prepositional phrase. In
prepositional phrases, a preposition is always followed by a noun or pronoun (object) with its
modifier.

An object of the preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition which relates
to another word in the sentence.

In the Philippines, weaving mats is widespread. The most colorful ones are found in the
markets of Jolo and Zamboanga.
Weaving mats take several weeks—from the gathering of pandan leaves to stripping,
boiling, and dying until the weaving stages. The quality of mat is judged by its softness and the
fineness of the weave as well as the elegance of the design.
Mats are also significant fixtures in Filipino homes. They are sometimes used in rituals. In
some places, mats are used as carpets to highlight an occasion. It is also cool to sleep on,
especially inside a nipa hut, where people sleep in the floor.
