IT’S YOUR
TURN

Now that we have introduced to

you the elements of the curriculum,
please do the following:
1. The figure below shows the
interrelationship of the
elements of the curriculum
which we discussed. Fill in the
blank figures to complete it as
a concept map.

2. Why do you need to

understand the different
elements of the curriculum?

3
LESSON 2: Overview of the Curriculum Development Process

Remember in the previous lesson, we said that a lesson plan is the simplest
kind of curriculum? Now, what do you think are the processes being
undertaken by a teacher to prepare his/her lesson plan? If you don’t have
any idea, ask a teacher and list down the processes here.

FLOW CHART OF THE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Label the figure below with the processes of curriculum development.
Beside each figure, give an example of what the teacher is going to do in
preparing his/her lesson plan.

LESSON 3: Curriculum Planning

LET’S ENGAGE
In life, we don’t do something at the spur of the moment if we want to
succeed in whatever we are going to do. For example, I would like to earn
money. What should I do? Shall I just go to the market and sell face masks?
Or if I would like to build a house, should I not make a plan first? It is very
important that in doing something, you should always have a plan. However,
not everyone knows how to make one.
Now, if a friend of yours plans to enter into a business, what would you
advise him/her to do? List them down.

IT’S YOUR TURN

We now start to work on our curriculum, in this case, a lesson plan. For
this lesson, I am going to ask you to prepare the learning outcomes of a topic
which you are going to prepare a lesson plan for. In preparing your learning
outcomes, you need to look at the competencies required.
1. What topic will I work on? Choose a topic based on your program.
If you are BEED, you have a lot of options of topics from
grades 1 to 6. If you are taking up BSED, choose a topic in your
field of specialization from grades 7 to 12. If you are taking up
BECED, choose a topic from kindergarten.
2. Where will I get those topics? Research on the curriculum guide as
found in the K-12 curriculum.

6
3. Where can I get the learning competencies of my topic/lesson? This
can be found in the K-12 curriculum guide for a particular
subject in a particular grade.
4. What are learning outcomes? Learning outcomes are what you as
the teacher intends the learner to be able to do after your
lesson. Remember the domains of educational objectives when
you prepare your learning outcomes: cognitive (what they
should know), psychomotor (what they can do), and affective
(how they should feel).

LESSON 4: Curriculum Design and Organization

IT’S YOUR TURN

Prepare a set of Developmentally-Sequenced Lesson Plans.
1. What exactly am I going to do? You are to prepare a set of
developmentally-sequenced lesson plan.
2. What is a set of developmentally-sequenced lesson plans? These are
set of lesson plans based on the K-12 guide.
3. Will I just choose any topic? No, remember the learning outcomes
that you did in the previous lesson? The topic/chapter you are
going to work on for this activity will be based on the learning
outcomes that you prepared previously.
4. How many lesson plans will I prepare? You are going to prepare
lesson plans developmentally-sequenced based on the chapter
that you have chosen. The number of lesson plans you will
prepare will depend on the length of the chapter you have
taken. You can also refer to the K-12 curriculum guide for that
particular subject and chapter.
This activity will form part of your performance task in this module;
thus, it will be submitted during the post assessment activity. This activity
will be rated based on a rubric to be prepared by the instructor in-charge.

LESSON 5: Curriculum Implementation

IT’S YOUR TURN

7
Research on the Implementation of the K-12 curriculum in your
area. Examine how the curriculum is being implemented in your area and
discuss the roles each of the key players play. The key players in curriculum
evaluation is shown in the figure above.

LESSON 6: Curriculum Evaluation

IT’S YOUR TURN

Research work. Prior to the implementation of the K-12 curriculum,

the Philippine government contracted the services of SEAMEO INNOTECH to
evaluate the basic education curriculum being implemented. Research on
the results of the study on the curriculum evaluation which paved the way
for the K-12 curriculum.
Write down the results of your research as this will be submitted to the
instructor at the end of this module.

LESSON 7: Curriculum Improvement/Change

IT’S YOUR TURN

Reflection paper: What changes do you think should be made to improve
the BSED or BEED curriculum of MPSPC? You can interview the faculty
members or the third or fourth year students or graduates of the program for
your reflection paper.

POST ASSESSMENT
Unit Test to assess the students’ content knowledge on curriculum
planning, design, organization, evaluation and improvement will be given
separately.
Some activities given will be considered as performance tasks and
outputs need to be submitted for checking. Rubrics will be prepared by the
instructor to be used in checking the activities. The following activities will
have to be submitted:
1. Set of developmentally sequenced lesson plans

8
2. Research paper on the results on the SEAMEO INNOTECH study
on the curriculum evaluation of the Basic Education Curriculum
3. Reflection paper on needed changes in the educational
curriculum of MPSPC
