Subject Verb Agreement What is a VERB?

Verb is a word which refers to an action.
Example. Eat, sleep. Laugh, speak etc.

Rule 1. Verb should be used according to the subject.


What is Subject verb agreement?
1.Singular- subject + v1+ s/es + object
Subject-verb agreement means that a subject and its Example-
verb must be both singular or both plural: • He plays football.
A singular subject takes a singular verb. • Meera writes beautifully.
A plural subject takes a plural verb.
2. Plural / you/ I – subject + v1 + object.
क का प एक वचन (she, Tom, Bike) हो, तब उसके साथ या भी एक वचन
(is, does, rains), ही होती … Example-
वैसे ही जब क का प अनेक वचन (you, we, they, girls)हो, तब उसके साथ •They play football.
या भी अनेक वचन (are, were) ही होती । •We play basketball.
•You play chess.

Example:
1. He is eating food.
2. They are eating food.
3. He has eaten the food.
4. We have eaten the food.

Rule 2. Suppositional sentence like if, as if, I Rule 3. Optative sentence-expresses a wish or prayer for

Rule 6. Rule 7: ‘Each of / Either of/Neither of + plural noun’ follows Singular Verb.

or Possessive Adjective(my, your,our,his..) is used before both the
singular nouns, then the verb will be plural. Example:

❑ Each of these four pens is red.

❑ Neither of these two students is laborious.
❑ My Uncle and My friend have come to see me.
❑ Each of them was a robber.
❑ A poet and a philosopher have come.

Rule 8: “many”, “A good many” - Plural noun is used. Rule 9: “many a” / “many an”- Singular verb is used.
