Introduction
Industries play a vital role in economic development by providing employment, increasing
production, and contributing to the country's GDP. In this survey, I have analyzed various
industries related to my stream and graded them based on scale of production, investment
turnover, and pollution levels. As part of my practical study, I visited Ajranjali Mahila
Udyog, a local food manufacturing unit.
Industry Overview: Ajranjali Mahila Udyog
Ajranjali Mahila Udyog is a small-scale food manufacturing unit established in 2010. It
specializes in producing traditional Indian snacks such as chakli, chivda, and various types
of papads. The unit is located near my home and supplies its products to Karad, Satara,
Sangli, Pune, and local distributors.
Industrial Analysis
1. Scale of Production
1. Daily Production Capacity:
o Papad: 50–200 kg per day
o Chakli: 30–150 kg per day
o Chivda: 50–250 kg per day
2. Annual Production Estimate:
o Papad: 10–50 tons per year
o Chakli: 7–40 tons per year
o Chivda: 12–60 tons per year
3. Workforce:
o Typically 5–20 workers, including production staff and packaging workers.
4. Machinery Used:
o Semi-automatic papad-making machines (output: 20–50 kg/hr)
o Chakli-making extruders (output: 10–30 kg/hr)
o Frying and seasoning units for chivda (output: 50–100 kg/hr)
5. Distribution Scale:
o Local markets, retail shops, and small-scale wholesale supply.
o May also cater to online platforms or bulk orders for festivals.
2. Investment and Turnover
Though the exact investment details are not disclosed, the estimated investment for
machinery, raw materials, and labor since its inception in 2010 can be assumed to be around
₹5-10 lakh. The estimated annual turnover ranges between ₹20-25 lakh, considering the
supply network and demand in major cities.
3. Pollution Levels
The pollution level in Ajranjali Mahila Udyog is relatively low compared to large-scale
industries. However, certain factors contribute to minor environmental concerns:
• Air Pollution: Minimal emissions from frying processes.
• Water Pollution: Water used for cleaning raw materials and utensils.
• Waste Management: Organic waste from food processing.
• Noise Pollution: Mild noise from machinery used for kneading and frying.
The unit follows basic hygiene and waste disposal practices to minimize pollution.

This survey highlights the role of small-scale industries in India's economy and the need to
support local businesses for sustainable development
vi. Interpretation of performed activity:
The survey results highlight the variation in industrial scale, investment, turnover, and
environmental impact. Large-scale industries contribute significantly to economic growth
but pose higher pollution risks, whereas small-scale industries have lower investment needs
and minimal environmental impact. Medium-scale industries maintain a balance between
production efficiency and sustainability. Understanding these differences helps in strategic
decision-making for industrial development and workforce planning.
vii. Conclusion:
The survey highlights the link between production scale, investment, turnover, and pollution.
Large industries boost the economy but cause higher pollution, while small industries have
lower impact but limited growth. Medium-scale industries offer balance. This understanding
aids in career and industrial planning.
