INTRODUCTION
Photobiomodulation, in recent years, has proven to be greatly beneficial to our health, not only in the healing
process but in preventing diseases and illnesses too.
Photobiomodulation is a low-level light therapy that was first developed in the 1960s. Some of the many benefits
of photobiomodulation include tissue regeneration, increased circulation, reduced inflammation, restoring
cellular function, reduced side effects of cancer treatments, support of new collagen formation, increased joint
function, stimulation of mitochondria, and overall healing and recovery. There is a wide range of benefits to
photobiomodulation; however, these are just a few of the amazing benefits this therapy offers.(1)
BUT what if I told you that there is more to only using photobiomodulation? There is a way to enhance your
therapy experience.
Researchers have been diving deeper into more natural supplements alongside photobiomodulation. The results
have been phenomenal, bringing healing percentages up and showing us that we can live a healthier, disease-free
life!
Most natural supplements are rich in antioxidants, which have numerous benefits for our bodies. Through many
studies, researchers have proven how these supplements compliment photobiomodulation, which we will uncover.
Through this eBook, I will reveal exactly how natural supplements can work synergistically with photobiomodulation
to boost its effects and how they can maximize the benefits of this light therapy.

CHAPTER 1
COMBINATION THERAPY
Photobiomodulation + Natural Supplements
Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy uses a form of light to help heal inflammation, oxidative stress, pain, and much
more. It is a non-invasive and effective method focusing on energizing the powerhouse of the cell – mitochondria.
PBM has shown effective results in mitigating the side effects of toxic cancer treatments.(2)
Natural supplements have always been the main pillar of holistic modalities. Your body comprises of nutrients,
minerals, and vitamins; you don’t lack drugs or vaccines. Natural supplements strengthen your immune system,
making it strong enough to fight off the toxicity in your body.
Natural supplements and PBM are both non-invasive treatment methods focusing on healing you holistically.
TRUST ME, when I say there’s a way to combine both non-invasive treatments and get the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.
Studies have been conducted to test the effectiveness of combining PBM therapy and natural supplements.
3
It has shown efficacy in combination with supplements
in restoring thyroid gland homeostasis in patients with
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT). A clinical feasibility parallel
trial with a 6-month follow-up demonstrated that PBM
therapy with supplements was effective in restoring thyroid
function, anthropometric parameters, and lifestyle factors
in patients with HT.(3)
There is enough evidence showing the mind-blowing effects of the combined therapy of PBM and supplements.
Hence, if you are planning to start with the RLT, combine it with natural supplements to get the optimum results.
Now, there are a plethora of supplements, so it’s obvious for you to get overwhelmed with which one to take. I
will guide you through the supplements that work best with RLT therapy and how to use them for high efficacy.
And she bought a package of 16 treatments to try and do something about this inflammation. And at the end of 16
treatments, she went back to her doctor and it was reduced by 50% basically with his new thermography report.
And so then we made it available to her to do more treatments so that she could continue that of getting rid of
inflammation. But we’ve done the same thing where we’ve taken a gymnast , a 60-year-old gymnast who had a lot
of aches and pains from all that gym work that they did when they were a teenager and took like 60 treatments to
really get rid of a good portion of the inflammation that was in her body.”

CHAPTER 2
VITAMINS, NUTRIENTS,
AND MINERALS
Vitamin B
Vitamin B complex is composed of eight different B vitamins. These water-soluble vitamins play an important role
in cell metabolism. B vitamins help the processes your body uses to convert the food you eat into energy and also
in forming the red blood cells.
In addition to breaking food into energy, the eight B vitamin functions are as follows:
B1 is also known as thiamine. It plays an important role in the growth and function of various cells and keeps the
nervous system healthy.
B2 is also known as riboflavin. Among its many functions, it is involved in the growth of cells, energy production,
and the breakdown of fats, steroids, and medications.
B3 is also known as niacin. This vitamin is responsible for the proper functioning of the gastrointestinal system by
improving digestion, absorption into the body of the food juices, and elimination of waste products (6). It is also
essential for keeping the cells healthy and increasing their longevity.
B5 is also known as pantothenic acid. Vitamin B5 is critical to the manufacture of red blood cells, as well as sex and
stress-related hormones produced in the adrenal glands, small glands that sit atop the kidneys.
B6 is also known as pyridoxine. Vitamin B6 helps in normal brain development and keeps the immune system and
nervous system healthy
B7 is also known as biotin. Vitamin B7 or biotin, is essential to keep your liver healthy and functioning. This water-
soluble vitamin also promotes the growth of nails and hair and keeps the skin healthy.
B9 is also known as folic acid. Folic acid plays a vital role in mental and emotional health as well as proper brain
function. It also assists in the production of DNA and RNA and is essential during times of rapid tissue growth, such
as during infancy, adolescence, and pregnancy.
B12 is also known as cobalamin. Vitamin B12 makes sure your brain and nervous system are functioning properly
and promotes cognitive thinking too. It also helps in preventing megaloblastic anemia. Anemia is a blood condition
that makes people tired and weak.
Water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body hence, their daily intake is necessary (7). You can get these
vitamins from various sources, including leafy vegetables, and avoid processed foods as they are depleted during
processing. Deficiency in B vitamins can cause diseases. For instance, lower vitamin B12 and B6 can cause anemia.
6
Get Enough Vitamin Bs Through Diet – Dr. Cathleen Gerenger
“Vitamin B1 is known as thiamine. Thiamine is known to play a critical role in energy metabolism, helping in the
conversion of your carbohydrates and usable energy for our bodies. It also supports the healthy function of the
nervous system. It helps with our cognitive brain function. Thiamine-rich foods include nuts such as macadamia
nuts, pistachio, seeds such as sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and vegetables such as asparagus and peas.
Certain fruits also contain thiamine – oranges and blackberries. Herbs such as rosemary and sage contain thiamine,
which is Vitamin B1.
Riboflavin is known as B2. It is vital for our energy production. It helps the metabolic processes such as carbohydrates,
fats, and proteins. It plays a key role in maintaining the body’s supply of B Vitamins, including helping our eye
health.
Riboflavin could also be found in foods such as almonds, spinach, and beet greens. Some fruits like avocados and
bananas also contain riboflavin. Seeds such as sesame seeds and chia seeds are rich in riboflavin. Herbs such as
parsleys also contain riboflavin. It’s role in supporting not just our eye health, it helps to maintain our healthy skin
and it helps to maintain a healthy mucus membrane.
B12 is also known as cobalamin. It’s crucial for the normal functioning of our nervous system. B12 is required
for the synthesis of red blood cells and the metabolisms of proteins and fats. It also plays a huge role in DNA
synthesis and the regulation of homocysteine levels. That homocysteine level is really important while we deal with
cardiovascular health.
For those plant-based diets, make sure you fortify your Vitamin B12 by eating plant milks that are fortified with B12
in it. Nori, shiitake mushrooms and nutritional yeast or other vegetarian sources that you can actually provide your
body with the adequate amount of B12. Many individuals, especially our elderly population, and also population
that have autoimmune conditions, should always make sure that they supplement themselves with B12. It helps
your body to absorb other nutrients as well.
Pantothenic acid is also known as B5. It is essential for the production of blood cells. It also helps to convert food
into energy by helping the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates. B5 is necessary for the production of several
key enzymes that help the synthesis of cholesterol hormones and neurotransmitters. Good sources of B5 include
legumes, avocados, and sweet potatoes. Nuts and seeds, especially sunflower seeds and pecans also have rich
Vitamin B5. Many fruits such as oranges, strawberries, and bananas contain B5. Vegetables such as broccolis, kale
are excellent sources of B5.”
PBM therapy + B Vitamins can help you maintain healthy skin and nerves, and can also
reduce the pain caused by wounds. (8)
If you are using any skincare products, make sure you apply them after you are done with the PBM therapy session.
7
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin and is in various forms. However, the human body only uses one form and that
is alpha-tocopherol (9). Its main function is to act as an antioxidant, scavenging loose electrons that can damage
cells. These loose electrons are often referred to as ‘free radicals’.
Apart from that, it also enhances immune function and prevents clots from forming in the heart arteries. Vitamin
E is an antioxidant vitamin and can protect cells from free radical damage and reduce their production. However,
there have been studies indicating the efficacy of Vitamin E in preventing chronic diseases.
Vitamin E protects our skin health. Again, what it does is that it prevents our body from exposure to these free
radical damages that we’re exposed to environmentally on a daily basis.
It also improves our cognitive function, which is our brain function. It has a positive impact, and research has
shown that it actually helps to decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
It helps to reduce the risk of chronic cardiovascular diseases. We’ve seen in studies that Vitamin E helps to decrease
the homocysteine levels in blood chemistry. Homocysteine is detected by your blood. High levels of homocysteine
indicates a risk of cardiovascular disease.
Vitamin E actually helps to support your eye health. What it does is that it helps to protect us from getting macular
degeneration. Any individuals that have light color eyes, like green eyes, blue eyes, hazel eyes, they are more prone
to macular degeneration, so those need to increase their Vitamin E intake.”
8
VITAMIN E CAN SUPPRESS OXIDATIVE STRESSORS: (10)
“Studies have confirmed that antioxidants, such as lutein, curcumin, Vitamin E, and Prunella vulgaris, can suppress
the accumulation of oxidative stressors.”
“Vitamins C, B3, and E are the most important antioxidants because of their ability to penetrate the skin through
their small molecular weight.”
“The efficacy results measured after 1, 2, and 3 months of use are progressive and confirm the interest of LED
photobiomodulation to reverse the visible signs of skin aging.”
Remember to use Vitamin E oil after your light therapy session to ensure maximum effect.
9
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is also a fat-soluble vitamin, also known as calciferol. When ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight strike
the skin, Vitamin D is produced naturally. In addition to promoting calcium absorption in the gut, it maintains
adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations, enabling normal bone mineralization and preventing
hypocalcemic tetany.
Apart from that, Vitamin D also reduces inflammation and modulates cell growth, immune and neuromuscular
function, and glucose metabolism.
Vitamin D is also known as a prohormone. What it does is that it’s the onset of your whole hormonal pathway.
Vitamin D is cardiovascular protective. Anybody that has a Vitamin D less than 50, has a 60% chance of having
cardiovascular disease. Anyone that has a Vitamin D level less than 30, has a 10-time chance of having any type
of cancer.
Vitamin D is really important, not only as the sunshine vitamin, but it’s also a prohormone. It’s great for your gut
health and also your hormonal health and cardiovascular health. It actually protects us and decreases our chance
of having illnesses, dementia, Alzheimer’s, or any kind of age related diseases.
Vitamin D actually helps to decrease the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Vitamin D is also well-known to help
for us to build stronger bones. Vitamin D actually helps to regulate our mood. It helps to regulate our cognitive
function, which is our brain function.”
You can get Vitamin D from foods like oranges, mushrooms, almond milk, soy milk, and cereals apart from the
natural sunlight. You can also level your Vitamin D through supplementation.
Vitamin D deficiency can lead to various diseases like osteomalacia, bone deformities, seizures, tetanic spasms,
and dental abnormalities. (13)
There have been studies to understand the efficacy of using Vitamin D as a supplement along with
photobiomodulation therapy.
10
VITAMIN D AND PBM THERAPY FOR DENTIN REGENERATION: (14)
Functional pulp regeneration is important when it comes to the treatment of pulp diseases and tissue engineering.
Human dental pulp stem cells (HDPSCs) are capable of cloning, hence they are also considered odontogenic
progenitor cells. Vitamin D has shown positive effects on dentin regeneration as it can differentiate between HDP
and dental follicle cells (15). Plus, PBM has also been shown to stimulate cell proliferation and differentiation and
odontogenic, osteogenic, and angiogenic gene expression (16). Hence, PBMT and Vitamin D therapy together might
have effective results at restoring dentin.
“PBM at 2 J/cm2 combined with Vitamin D enhanced the HDPSCs (Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells) proliferation and
odontogenic differentiation and thus could be a novel strategy for dentin regeneration in dentistry.”
A direct anabolic effect of Vitamin D on osteoblasts and increased calcium absorption can increase bone
growth indirectly. In PBM, light photons are emitted by LEDs and low laser levels, eliciting photophysical and
photochemical events at various biological scales. Many studies have been conducted on using aiding factors for
bone regeneration along with dental stem cells. This study aimed at understanding the efficacy of laser therapy
with Vitamin D3 for HPDLSCs and bone regeneration.
“Laser irradiation at 2 J/cm2 combined with Vitamin D3 enhanced osteoblast differentiation and proliferation of
cultured hPDLSCs (human periodontal ligament stem cells) and thus could further substitute bone grafting.” (18)
VITAMIN D AND D3 WITH PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY FOR ONCOLOGICAL SKIN DISEASES AND
CERTAIN TYPES OF CANCER: (19)
A study was done collecting the databases from Pubmed and Scopus literature with a keyword search “Vitamin D
in photodynamic therapy.” Researchers analyzed articles from 1979 to 2022 demonstrating the positive effects of
Vitamin D and D3 when combined with photodynamic therapy.
“An average of 6–30% (in one case, up to 10 times) increased response to photodynamic therapy was reported in
combination with Vitamin D and D3 as compared to photodynamic therapy alone. Implementing Vitamin D and D3
as a supplement to photodynamic therapy is promising.”
VITAMIN D3 WITH PDT CAN SUPPORT THE DESTRUCTION OF CANCER CELLS: (20)
A study was done on two groups: Control (Group 1) and Interventional (Group 2) with AK (actinic keratoses).
Group 1 received gentle debridement and 15 minutes ALA preincubation followed by blue light and Group 2 took
oral Vitamin D3 before the debridement and PDT.
“Oral VD3 pretreatment significantly improves AK clinical responses to PDT. The regimen appears promising and
well tolerated.”
11
Omega-3 Fatty Acid
Polyunsaturated fats like Omega-3s (Omega-3s) play a key role in your body. Your body can’t produce the amount
of Omega-3s you need to survive. Therefore, Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that must be obtained
from food or supplements.
Additionally, Omega-3 fatty acids also help cells in the body to function properly. Your cell membrane relies on
them to provide structure and support interactions between cells. Although Omega-3s are important to all your
cells, your brain, and eyes have the highest concentrations. There are three types of Omega-3 fatty acids namely
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and ALA (alpha-linolenic acid).
There’s a lot of things that they do because they give you that much, so much energy. They increase metabolic rate,
they increase oxygen rate, the speed recovery from fatigue, from exercise, and they increase wound healing, speed
wound healing to a third, to a half the time. And part of the Omega-3s that get you this high energy and this good
fire in your body, which will end throw sparks.
Life is a fire, and a vital fire throws sparks. So you need spark control, spark controls get done by anti-inflammatory
and antioxidant molecules. Some made in the body, some come from herbs and spices and whole foods. Well,
Omega-3 is the only molecule of all of our essential nutrient that provides the fire. And then about maybe 5 to
20% of the Omega-3 molecules are converted in the body into antioxidant molecules for spark control. So here’s
something that gives you the fire and the spark control in the same molecule, and those are called resolvins,
protectins, maresins.”
According to a study conducted in 2019, Omega-3 consumption was below the recommended amounts in all age
groups. The United States is prone to Omega-3 deficiency. The ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 should be 2 to 1, but
in the American population, it’s found to be 25 to 1. (21)
12
Deficiency of Omega-3 fatty acids can be the reason behind:
• Exacerbate dry and irritated skin
• Air thinning and loss
• Depression
• Dry eyes, and joint pain or stiffness.
When it comes to consuming the best source of Omega-3 fatty acids from foods, it includes algae oil, chia seeds,
flaxseed and soybean oil, walnuts, and edamame. Apart from that, you can also go with the Omega-3 supplements.
(22)
A study conducted by ACS (American Cancer Society) projected more than 2 million new cancer cases and around
600,000 deaths in the year 2024. (24)
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids PUFAs have been attributed to the low prevalence of cardiovascular diseases.
“Omega-3 PUFAs are classified as essential because they cannot be synthesized by the organism; hence, the
consumption of food rich in Omega-3, such as nuts, and seed oils, is mandatory.”
Chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments can cause oral mucositis (OM), a painful condition occurring in patients
with different tumor characteristics and locations. Currently, there’s no appropriate treatment for managing OM,
let alone reversing it.
However, the research shows a positive effect of Omega-3 fatty acids in managing OM.
“Omega-3 PUFAs present a promising approach in addressing the lack or delay of the recovery of OM during
cancer treatment, possibly improving the overall quality of life and, consequently, patients’ survival.”
In 2019, a study was conducted to understand the effect of using PBM therapy and Chia seeds supplementation
together for the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). This study was done on 80 Wistar rats.
“PBM and chia seeds treatment improved retinal health better than the control group. It improved the electrical
signals, proteins, and structure of the retina. Conclusion Chia seeds with PBM have more beneficial effects in the
treatment of DR than by PBM alone.”
13
Calcium
Calcium is one of the most important minerals that our body needs to build and maintain strong bones and carry
out many other important functions. Therefore, it is also a mineral that is abundant in our bodies.
98% of the calcium in the body is stored in the bones. The body uses bones as a reservoir and the source of
calcium to maintain calcium homeostasis. Around 99% of the calcium is in the form of calcium hydroxyapatite, an
inorganic matrix of calcium and phosphate and it is stored in the bones and teeth. (27)
Even though calcium is abundant in our body, we still need to consume calcium. If you are eating too much salted
(sodium-based) food, the calcium in your body is going to deplete.
A metabolic syndrome increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. It has been suggested that women
with metabolic syndrome might benefit from increasing their calcium intake. (28)
The calcium-rich foods include kale, broccoli, Chinese cabbage (bok choy), sunflower seeds, soy milk, white beans,
nuts, beans, peas, and lentils.
“A nutritious diet including calcium-rich foods and regular exercise throughout a person’s life (including during
childhood and adolescence) will reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later years.”
“If we do not have enough calcium in our diets to keep our bodies
functioning, calcium is removed from where it is stored in our bones.
Over time, this causes our bones to grow weaker and may lead to
osteoporosis, a disorder in which bones become very fragile.”
14
PHOTOBIOMODULATION AND PHOSPHOPEPTIDE-
AMORPHOUS CALCIUM PHOSPHATE FLUORIDE PASTE FOR
TEETH WHITENING (32)
Group 1:
• PLACEBO group—received a placebo paste and PBMT simulation;
• PBMT group—received a placebo paste + PBMT;
Group 2:
• CPP-ACPF group—received CPP-ACPF paste and PBMT simulation;
• CPP-ACPF + PBMT group—received both CPP-ACPF paste and PBMT.
In each group, placebo users experienced the highest sensitivity increase during teeth whitening. For CPP-ACPF
and PBMT groups, teeth whitening effectiveness didn’t differ much between weeks.
CPP-ACPF and PBMT groups had less sensitivity throughout the treatment compared to placebo. All treatments
effectively whiten teeth, with no significant differences between groups.
“PBMT associated with CPP-ACPF proved to be effective on treatment to TS posthome whitening, without
compromising the efficacy of TW.”
In 2021, a study was conducted to understand the efficacy of PBMT + biphasic calcium phosphate associated with
fibrin biopolymer for bone regeneration. This study was done on thirty male Wistar rats.
“PBMT showed positive effects capable of improving and accelerating the guided bone regeneration process
when associated with biphasic calcium phosphate and fibrin biopolymer.”
15
Magnesium Plays as an Antagonist to Calcium – Dr. Thomas Levy
“Magnesium’s natural function is to work as an antagonist to calcium. And in one of my earlier books, Death
by Calcium, I laid it out very clearly that 100%, not 99.9%, but 100% of all disease cells and disease tissue have
elevated intracellular levels of calcium, 100%.
So, high levels of calcium increases all-cause mortality, increases your chance of death from anything because
all the cells are affected. Well, in comes magnesium riding in on the white horse, and it turns out that the more
magnesium you get into your body, the more you bring the calcium level down.
In fact, the relationship is so well-set that it’s impossible to have elevated levels of both calcium and magnesium
in the cell. You push one up, the other goes down. So when your calcium is up and you get the magnesium in there
coming in, you bring the calcium down and you start to normalize intracellular oxidative stress.”
Magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral that is available in abundance in the body. It is naturally present in many foods, added to
other foods, and available as a dietary supplement.
Magnesium is essential for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis. In addition to supporting
bone development, it is also essential for DNA, RNA, and glutathione synthesis.
It also plays a crucial role in the active transportation of calcium and potassium ions across the cell membranes.
This process is important for nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm.
The magnesium deficiency will not be an issue if you are consuming a magnesium-rich diet daily. However, if your
dietary intake is low in magnesium you might face symptomatic magnesium deficiency. Apart from that, if you are
suffering from chronic alcoholism or are using certain medications, it can also lead to magnesium deficiency. (34)
If you have severe magnesium deficiency, it will disrupt the mineral homeostasis and can result in hypocalcemia or
hypokalemia (low serum calcium or potassium levels, respectively). Also, a good source of magnesium is present
in green leafy vegetables (like spinach), whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
Magnesium plays an important role in glucose metabolism, which is why magnesium intake is associated with
lowering the risk of Type 2 diabetes. There have been studies conducted to understand the relationship between
magnesium intake and the risk of Type 2 diabetes. And the results stated,
“Higher fiber and magnesium intakes may decrease diabetes risk.” (35)
16
MAGNESIUM AND MIGRAINE HEADACHES (36)
“There was a significant increase in Vitamin D and Magnesium levels after LLLT. We observed a considerable
improvement in the quality of life after LLLT demonstrated by a decrease in VPT and MNSI and a reduction in NPRS
in DPN patients.”
Our cells can make their water in the right conditions, which is under light. Hence, magnesium and red light
therapy go perfectly well together.
*Note: Make sure you are following these steps in the mentioned order only to sleep like a baby.
17
CHAPTER 3
ANTIOXIDANTS
Antioxidants are amazing molecules that assist our bodies in fighting off harmful free radicals. These radicals roam
our bodies and can cause harm if their levels become increasingly high. This then leads to diseases and illnesses.
Our bodies have been so uniquely created that we have our own antioxidant defenses; however, we can also get
them from our diet.
Foods such as fruits and vegetables, plant-based whole foods, and vitamins provide antioxidants for us. Vitamins
such as E and C are particularly effective for our bodies!
We can head into a state called “oxidative stress” if the free radicals outnumber antioxidants, which is why it is
extremely important to keep our antioxidant levels up by making good lifestyle choices. (40)
There are a few areas that can negatively impact this pattern, such as:
• Poor diet
• Pollution
• Toxins
• Alcohol intake
• Smoking
• Too much or too little oxygen in your body
• Prolonged exercise causes tissue damage
• High blood sugar levels
• Bacterial, fungal or viral infections
Let’s take a closer look at some important antioxidants that, paired with photobiomodulation, can work wonders.
19
Niacinamide
Niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, is a form of Vitamin B3 and can be found in many foods, such as green
vegetables. (41)
• Niacinamide is great for building proteins in the skin and locking in moisture to prevent damage. There are
other amazing benefits that niacinamide offers, such as: (42)
• Immunity: assists in building keratin, which keeps your skin firm and healthy
• Lipid Barrier: Niacinamide is great for helping your skin grow a lipid barrier, which retains water. This is
particularly beneficial for eczema.
• Reduces inflammation: niacinamide assists in reducing blotchiness and inflammation as well as easing
redness in eczema.
• Sun damage protection: rebuilding new skin cells is one of the amazing benefits of niacinamide, which
protects them from damage from ultraviolet rays.
• Protects against oxidative stress: niacinamide not only assists in building skin cells, but it also protects them
from environmental stressors, which include toxins, pollution, and sunlight.
• Boosts brain function: Our brains need niacin (coenzymes NAD and NADP) in order to receive energy and be
able to function properly. Niacin can treat some types of schizophrenia that is caused by a niacin deficiency.
(43)
Niacinamide has cured most of the cases of schizophrenia - Dr. Thomas E. Levy
“Vitamin C and magnesium are so incredibly valuable because they support all these processes. Vitamin C is
always going in and neutralizing these accumulated toxins, allowing things to recover. The problem is, and this is
becoming increasingly apparent to me, is it’s not just a sudden acute thing that you can suddenly resolve. By that,
mitochondrial insufficiency is how we call it evolves over time.
And we have, for example, indications. For example, niacin and niacinamide have been used in the past by Dr.
Abram Hoffer to effectively cure most cases of schizophrenia. I didn’t misstate that. Niacin, niacinamide has cured
most of the cases of schizophrenia for which it’s been properly dosed. Properly dosed is the biggie. In that case,
we’re talking about 3 grams, maybe 4 grams a day of niacinamide. But the interesting thing about the long-lasting
damage that I’ve talked to about is they’ve also shown that, not that you’d want to ever stop that because if you’re
the patient, you don’t want to stop something that’s helping you.”
20
Increased moisture levels in the skin are what niacinamide is known for and when combined with red light therapy,
it can enhance hydration even more, as well as overall health. (44)
Red light therapy and niacinamide are known as the ultimate duo for skincare! Niacinamide can boost NAD+ levels
in our skin, which then influences mitochondrial health. Results with niacinamide, once paired with red light
therapy, are even more beneficial and transformative.
There are 2 wavelengths that promote healing that pair perfectly with niacinamide are 630 nm and 660 nm.
630 nm: is great for rejuvenation and healing acne, scars, rosacea, and sun damage, as well as reducing inflammation.
660 nm: dives slightly deeper than 630nm, which is perfect for wound healing and tissue repair. It is also used to
stimulate collagen and elastin production.
To optimize skin health and appearance, pairing 660nm with ingredients such as niacinamide, retinoids, and
Vitamin C is the best! (45)
It can also be found in foods such as soybeans, nuts, seeds, and vegetables, and lower levels of CoQ10 are found
in some fruits. (48) (49) If you are not able to get enough CoQ10 in your diet, then supplements are available. This
is also advisable for those who have particular health conditions or diseases such as heart failure, high blood
pressure, gum disease, Parkinson’s disease, blood infections, certain diseases of the muscles, and HIV. (50) (51) Taking
supplements is also advisable as you age, as the levels of CoQ10 decrease.
It can assist in treating heart failure: Research shows that patients who took CoQ10 had a lower death rate and
were able to exercise at a higher capacity as opposed to placebo-treated patients with heart failure. (53)
21
CoQ10 can help with fertility: Infertility affects about 15% of the
world’s population and it seems to be a global issue. Numerous
factors can contribute to this and researchers are exploring
many options. However, through a few studies, it has been
concluded that diet supplementation that includes CoQ10 can
benefit sperm quality. (54)
It could reduce headaches: Numerous studies have been done to test the outcome of reducing headaches with
CoQ10. One study concluded that CoQ10 is a ‘potent’ therapeutic agent in reducing the frequency and duration
of migraines in both adults and children. (56) In another study, there was a significant reduction in the frequency
of attacks per month, in the severity of headaches, as well as short duration, and ultimately no side effects were
noted. (57)
CoQ10 can enhance exercise performance: CoQ10 has been found to decrease oxidative stress and improve
mitochondrial function, according to a 2018 study. (58)
It may help with diabetes: A study showed that CoQ10 may help with glycemic control and improve insulin
sensitivity. (59)
A 2019 study found that using near-infrared light therapy combined with CoQ10 had a few effects on older mice
with ischemic brain damage. These effects included improved energy production, the creation of new mitochondria
in brain cells, and reduced inflammation. (60)
In a 2020 study, research suggested that combining near-infrared light therapy and CoQ10 can help with depression
by reducing harmful processes in the brain, which include oxidative stress, inflammation, and neuronal apoptosis.
It was a promising study, as using both can treat depression, which is caused by stress. (61)
Amazing results were found in a 2021 study when combining photobiomodulation and CoQ10 for burns. It was
found that there was a huge increase in cell growth as well as cells being protected during the healing process.
Yes, both CoQ10 and photobiomodulation are phenomenal on their own, but this study showed that when used
together, they reduced oxidative stress, boosted cell growth, increased collagen production, and activated energy
processes in the cells, which is UNBELIEVABLE! (62)
It is clear from these studies that CoQ10 and PBM are both extremely beneficial. But allowing them to work
together just brings a whole new meaning to healing, especially for diseases, as well as increasing cell growth.
It is advised to take about 200 mg twice daily with food for most people to maintain therapeutic blood levels of
CoQ10. (63) Taking CoQ10 with food helps your body absorb it better. (64)

N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
NAC builds antioxidants in our bodies. It is derived from the amino acid L-cysteine and has anti-inflammatory and
mucus-thinning properties. NAC is commonly taken as a supplement.
NAC is an antioxidant and helps fight free radicals, according to Dr. Cathleen Gerenger
“NAC is called N-acetyl cysteine. It’s a supplement that contains a modified form of amino acid cysteine. Some of
the benefits of NAC is that it’s an antioxidant, it actually helps to fight free radicals. Another benefit of NAC that
we know in the athletic world or even in the pulmonology world, is that it’s great for your respiratory health. It
actually helps to reduce oxidative stress that we actually encounter every single day. Our lungs is really important,
especially when it comes to overall health.
Liver health is great when you add NAC into your regimen. What it does is that it helps to actually detoxify a lot of
the alcohol. Especially in addiction centers, they’ve been using NAC as one of their addiction rehabs. NAC is great
for the mental health just because it really helps with the lung capacity, what happens is that it actually helps to
fight the free radical, open up your blood vessels so the oxygen and the circulation can go right up into your brain
and really helps with brain fog.”
NAC HAS A FEW HEALTH BENEFITS THAT WE ARE GOING TO DIVE INTO: (65)
NAC may treat psychiatric conditions: In a 2018 study, NAC showed promising results in treating psychiatric disorders.
It also shows that it can assist in controlling different brain pathway problems like addictions and substance abuse,
schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and mood swings. NAC shows promise in reducing symptoms by
managing glutamate levels, oxidative stress, and inflammation. (66) (67)
It can improve mental health conditions: In a 12-to-24-week study, 574 people took part, NAC helped improve
depressive symptoms as opposed to the placebo group of people. Better global functionality was also noted in
those that took N-acetyl cysteine. (68)
NAC can help relieve respiratory condition symptoms: In a 2020 study, researchers found that using up to 3,000
mg of NAC a day for any breathing problems was safe. From the study, it was evident that NAC could also improve
lung and respiratory tract conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, and pulmonary fibrosis, as well as nasal and
sinus congestion symptoms due to allergies or infections. (69)
It can boost brain health: According to a review, NAC acts as an antioxidant and gets rid of harmful substances in
your body. It has also been used to treat conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome in patients with resistance
to clomiphene citrate, preterm birth, acetaminophen poisoning, recurrent pregnancy loss, chronic bronchitis,
ulcerative colitis, liver cancer, muscle performance, hemodialysis, asthma, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease.
(70)
23
NAC may reduce heart disease risk: NAC shows the potential to protect those who are at risk of heart attacks by
reducing oxidative stress. Studies have also shown that there is potential to prevent heart damage due to either
ischemia or other factors. (71)
Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are super rich in nutrients, although they may be quite small. They have many amazing health benefits
and have been used for many centuries! (72)
These nutrients can promote a healthy heart; they can support strong bones; and they can improve blood sugar
management. (73)
“Seeds such as sesame seeds and chia seeds are rich in riboflavin.” - Dr. Cathleen Gerenger
Chia seeds are also a great option to incorporate into your daily meals as they are versatile and can be included in
several recipes, not only meals but puddings too!
LET’S HAVE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE BENEFITS THAT CHIA SEEDS HAVE TO OFFER:
Chia seeds are highly nutritious: In just 28 grams per 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, it contains: (74)
• calories: 138
• protein: 4.7 g
• fat: 8.7 g
• alpha-linolenic acid (ALA): 5 g
• carbs: 11.9 g
• fiber: 9.8 g
• calcium: 14% of the Daily Value (DV)
24
• iron: 12% of the DV
• magnesium: 23% of the DV
• phosphorus: 20% of the DV
• zinc: 12% of the DV
• Vitamin B1 (thiamine): 15% of the DV
• Vitamin B3 (niacin): 16% of the DV
They are full of antioxidants: Chia seeds are an amazing source of antioxidants. () There are specific antioxidants
in chia seeds, such as chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, myricetin, quercetin, and kaempferol, which are believed to
have cardiac, hepatic, anti-aging, and anti-carcinogenic characteristics. It has been proven that the therapeutic
properties of chia seeds help control diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant,
anti-blood clotting, laxative, antidepressant, anti-anxiety, analgesic, vision, and immune enhancers. (75)
Chia seeds could lower the risk of heart disease: Some studies show that chia seed supplements can reduce blood
pressure in those who have hypertension or high blood pressure, which leads to heart disease. (76) (77)
It contains vital bone nutrients: Chia seeds are high in nutrients, including calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium,
that are crucial for bone health. (78) (79) A 2018 study’s results showed that male rats grew stronger bones and
muscles between 10-13 months from eating chia seeds, which were rich in n-3 ALA. Researchers also noticed that
the rat’s body weight increased and they had higher musculoskeletal weight. (80)
Alone, chia seeds have amazing benefits, but according to studies, it is proven that chia seeds are even MORE
beneficial when used with photobiomodulation. A particular study, showed that PBM and chia seeds used together
are more effective and beneficial for diseases due to their high antioxidant capacity, ability to remove ROS, and
minimize oxidative stress. (81)
You want to maximize the benefits of chia seeds, and the way to do that is to ensure you eat them when they have
been soaked or served with moist foods such as oatmeal or cereal. The reason for this is because they swell quite
quickly after absorbing liquid. (82)
Methylene Blue
Methylene blue is a unique dye that has amazing effects on the brain, can release negative feelings related to
trauma, and can eliminate symptoms of depression and PTSD. It is also known to relieve pain, inflammation, oral
mucositis, arthritis, migraines, and chronic lower back pain. Methylene blue also assists in improving cardiovascular
disease and diabetes.
Methylene blue and red light therapy boosts mitochondrial respiration, by protecting and rejuvenating respiration
in cells, organs, and bodily systems. (83)
25
“Methylene blue is a phenomenal agent. It actually violates the orthomolecular rule because of all the things it
actually was synthesized.”
Studies show that “a single dose of methylene blue for many people resolves their depression.”
- Dr. Thomas E. Levy
“It’s not a natural substance that occurs inside your body, but as fate would have it, and the way its history has
evolved, it does most everything Vitamin C does, and sometimes a little bit more. It’s very, very good. And also
especially critical for the post-COVID patients or the chronic COVID patients is, it gets quickly and rapidly taken up
inside the brain, passes the blood-brain barrier very easily. Very early on, and they’ve shown studies, just a single
dose of methylene blue for many people resolved their depression. And in general, what it does is it increases the
ability of the cells throughout your body, but also in the brain to more effectively synthesize ATP and not create
excess oxidative stress in the process. This is an incredible agent in some studies, amazingly enough, amaze the
heck out of me…
But it’s an extremely effective agent in dealing with pathogens, in dealing with these problems that we’re talking
about. And also, just like we talked about with the hydrogen peroxide nebulization, when you’re taking the
methylene blue orally, which is the common way to take it, it’s a little involved taking it intravenously. When you’re
taking it orally, this is another great agent to help maintain a balanced microbiome and stop the leaky gut that
causes so many problems…
Let me be more specific what methylene blue does inside the mitochondria. Inside the mitochondria, you have a 4
complex sequence called the electron transport chain, where you take glucose and eventually metabolize it down,
shuttling the electrons through there to where you produce 36 ATP at the end.
The electron gets shuttled from complex I, complex II, complex III, complex IV, and that’s your primary source of
brand new energy generated inside the body. Now, each of those steps while producing energy also generate
oxidative stress. You got to rob Peter to pay Paul. To make new energy, you got to use up other energy sources
and produce more oxidation. And when everything’s fine and everything’s balanced, the energy production
predominates and everything’s fine. As you get older, sicker, infected more problems, the relative amounts of
increased oxidative stress relative to the new energy being produced starts to go up. Well, what methylene blue
does is it takes the electron from complex I, bypasses stage II and III and directly donated to complex IV, so that
you get a huge production of ATP without the generation of new oxidative stress in between. And now here’s the
kicker. The first complex is NADH, and when it gives up its electron, it becomes NAD. And we see inside the nervous
system especially, brains of patients where they have all these problems, not only related to chronic COVID, but
to other things, a significant depression of NAD. When you’re able to take large amounts of niacin, niacinamide
different direct applications of NAD you give–at the same time, if you’re using it, the methylene blue that you take
inside the body–you’re giving it more substrate to take those electrons and directly put them in at the end of the
electron transport chain, the Krebs cycle, if you will to make new ATP. And that’s the whole ball game is as far as life
goes, as far as energy goes, as far as health goes, is when can I get and return to a situation of the optimal, most
efficient way of making new energy while consuming as little energy in the process.”
26
IN ANOTHER INTERVIEW, DR. THOMAS E. LEVY EXPANDS A LITTLE MORE REGARDING METHYLENE.
“Methylene blue goes in at the fourth step. There’s four steps in the electron transport chain that are shuttling
down electrons so that you produce optimal amounts of ATP while producing minimal amounts of oxidative stress.
And methylene blue comes in and directly contributes an electron at the final stage so that you’re able to generate
ATP without generating any oxidative stress at all. So by no means have I given an exhaustive example of all the
great things that different supplements can do, but right now I’m always reading, always trying to educate myself,
trying to advance my understanding. Right now that’s my megavitamin and mineral package.
Mitochondrial healing, basically, is referring to a state in which your energy production, because the mitochondria
are the energy powerhouses of the cell. That’s where you produce your ATP. And ATP, I think most people that have
any familiarity with science know that that’s the power molecule in your body that runs all the energy enzymes and
many other things. So when you’re talking about mitochondrial problems, which you’re talking about problems
with energy production, and those problems with energy production are because you don’t have enough of the
substrates that I just mentioned, NAD, FAD, Coenzyme Q10 and then bringing in something like methylene blue to
help it. All of these things help at different spots to augment ATP production. But the thing that knocks things down
is we live in an increasingly toxic world and all toxins do what? They oxidize or they result in oxidation.”
He continues to say:
“For whatever reason due to its unique chemical structure, methylene blue is another powerful antioxidant. The
methylene blue gets rapidly taken up inside the cells, rapidly inside the mitochondria, and it directly donates its
electrons to the cytochrome c oxidase, directly and immediately stimulating new and large amounts of ATP. But
here’s a critical point, without the necessary physiological generation of oxidative stress that every chemicals
process takes in the body. So even while you’re shuttling energy down, you’re creating more oxidation. It’s called
physiological oxidative stress. But in the case of methylene blue, it’s able to generate new energy without the
processes of generating more oxidative stress in the process. The methylene blue is something that can be taken 5
to 20 milligrams a day, which is a half to 2 CCs of the 1% pharmaceutical grade methylene blue solution.”
To have all the available research that we do have, as well as expertise from our doctors, is fantastic, but seeing
people endure health challenges, take our advice, and even go that one step further and conduct their own
research is truly the icing on the cake!
In a recent interview, Daniel Chang shared his healing journey. I love hearing how natural supplements make a
difference in people’s lives, allowing them to heal, giving them a new, positive outlook!
“And then, within the past few months, I started getting into methylene blue, which Jonathan introduced me
to, which has been incredible. It’s been really helping my mental clarity and increasing the ability to have clear
thoughts. I just really feel like my mind is so, so clear.”
27
Daniel Chang, Testimonial
There are some really great benefits to combining methylene blue and red light therapy, such as: (84)
• Heightened cellular energy
• Brain health and cognition enhancement
• Skin health rejuvenation
• Combat oxidative stress and inflammation
Combining them is an effective way to accelerate the recovery of brain cells that are metabolically defective,
which makes it the perfect treatment for dementia and autism. (85)
A study using low-dose methylene blue and near-infrared light concluded the following:
“Neurons are metabolically protected against degeneration using low-level methylene blue and near-infrared light
interventions.” (86)
Another study reviewed the potential of methylene blue and photobiomodulation as treatments for brain diseases,
which target mitochondrial dysfunction. The study also showed that the two together highlighted their beneficial
effects on mitochondrial function, oxidative damage, and inflammation. (87)
“Red light therapy works very well along with methylene blue at the end of the electron transport chain to stimulate
the production of ATP synthesis without encountering or generating any oxidative stress in the process that you see
in the preceding three steps.” - Dr. Thomas E. Levy
Once again, Dr. Levy says, “Electrons heal, the lack of electrons or the taking of electrons destroy.” So, we elevate
an electron with red light, and that’s a healing process. When that electron goes, what’s left behind, a void, and
that molecule is most stable without that void, so it’s trying to find an electron from something else. This is now an
oxidizing state of the molecule. It can grab an electron, say from a cancer cell or an infectious cell membrane, and
pull that electron away, and when it does that, it destroys that membrane. We call that necrosis…”
28
“You take in methylene blue, either internally or sublingually, this blue molecule is circulating through your vascular
system. We shine right red light on it, and now we create this electron whole pair which can treat the cancer. Now
methylene blue is an interesting thing. It absorbs in the red light region at 665 nanometers. So 660 light, which
is the classic red light of these LED systems, tunes very nicely to methylene blue. What you do with methylene
blue is you take it in and we constantly irradiate. We irradiate on the wrist area here because the blood vessels
are most superficial. We’re creating as much of these excited electrons and holes as we possibly can and as it
circulates through your system. Now, I was actually on a team 20 years ago that developed a very sophisticated
photodynamic substance called Sonolux, and we’ve proven that that actually shrinks tumors.”
In another amazing study, researchers wanted to assess how effective methylene blue and photobiomodulation
were in killing cancer cells in breast tumors.
The study concluded that the combination was quite powerful in removing the tumor cells, without damaging
normal cells. This is a highly effective strategy in not only inducing cell death but also killing off the cancer cells
missed by chemotherapy and lowering the chances of the cancer returning or spreading to other parts of the
body. (88)
To conclude this chapter, we can see that by using nature’s remedies, getting the most out of what we have
around us, such as antioxidants, and combining them with an amazing therapy like photobiomodulation, we hold
so much power over our own lives. We do not have to rely on medications, treatments, surgeries, and ongoing
doctor visits. The answers are right in our backyards.
29
CHAPTER 4
PROBIOTICS
Probiotics are live microorganisms that are beneficial for our health, you can consume them or even apply them to
your body. These good bacteria are found in dairy-free yogurt, kimchi, pickles, and all the other fermented foods.
Nowadays, they are present in beauty products as well.
When it comes to bacteria, we often think they are HARMFUL, no doubt many are but many are HELPFUL as well.
These good bacteria help with the digestion process, destroy disease-causing cells, and even produce vitamins.
The bacteria in the probiotic products are the same or similar to the microorganisms living naturally in our bodies.
There are many types of probiotic microorganisms but the most common are Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.
“Probiotics have shown promise for a variety of health purposes, including prevention of antibiotic-associated
diarrhea (including diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile), prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis and sepsis in
premature infants, treatment of infant colic, treatment of periodontal disease, and induction or maintenance of
remission in ulcerative colitis.” (89)
Probiotics modulate the immune system and suppress inflammation through their interactions with intestinal
epithelial cells, dendritic cells, monocytes/macrophages, and lymphocytes. It regulates the host’s immune
response by its influence on the innate and adaptive immune system.
“All categories of probiotics have anti-inflammatory activities, act as an intestinal barrier against pathogens, are
anti-adhesion to harmful microorganisms, anti-biofilm, antivirals, modulators of the immune system, reduce blood
pressure and cholesterol, are antiproliferative, apoptotic and anti-oxidant and so on.” (92)
The intestine-brain axis plays an important role in the feedback between probiotics, microbiota, immune system,
neuroendocrine, and nerve cells.
Eating enough fiber and taking probiotics helps keep your gut healthy, solving leaky gut problems. This helps your
body make special molecules that control your energy, weight, and how you react to inflammation.
31
“Coupled complex PBM and probiotic interventions can adjust the microbiome, improve the activity of the immune
system, and save the lives of people with immune imbalances.”
Benefits of Probiotics
Gut Health:
Our gut has a complex community of microorganisms, also known as gut flora, gut microbiome, or gut microbiota.
Now, this community performs many healthy functions like manufacturing Vitamin K and some B Vitamins. Apart
from that, it also helps in turning fibers into short-chain fats that feed for the gut wall and fuel metabolic functions.
However, we overlook the health of the gut flora and unbalanced gut microbiome can lead to various diseases.
Probiotics can help restore that unbalance ensuring its optimum functioning.
Digestion:
Probiotics and Digestion have always been a hot topic among researchers. The most evident study is the positive
effect of probiotics on antibiotic-induced diarrhea. (96)
When you take excessive amounts of antibiotics you can suffer from diarrhea. The reason is antibiotics kill many of
the natural bacteria in your gut. This mass murder of good bacteria allows harmful bacteria to impact your health.
Probiotics have been proven to show positive results in treating antibiotic-induced diarrhea.
Weight Loss:
Obesity is directly connected to gut health. A study states that people with obesity have different gut microbiota
than people who have a lean body. Probiotics can help in the balancing of gut flora and aid in weight loss. (97)
A study was conducted on 210 people with central obesity and excessive belly fat. They were given Lactobacillus
gasseri probiotic on a daily basis for around 12 weeks. It showed 8.5% reduction in belly fat, upon stopping the
intake of probiotic there was gain in the belly fat in around 4 weeks. (98)
32
Psychobiotics:
Your gut is connected to your brain, an imbalance in your
gut causes an imbalance in the brain too. The studies on
this gut-brain axis have been going on for a decade now. (99)
Inflammation:
Probiotics have a history of fighting inflammation. The
research shows probiotics immediately activate anti-
inflammatory mechanisms producing anti-inflammatory
cytokines and hinder the production of pro-inflammatory
cytokines. (101)
Depression:
Recent studies have shown the positive effects of probiotics in people with depression and anxiety (102).This is in
relation with the gut-brain axis, the natural bacteria will send signals to the central nervous system through the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract enhancing the overall mood.
Immune Function:
Probiotics have been studied as an aid in treating many diseases, and one of its mechanisms is through the
regulation of host immune response. Immune response initiated through the innate immune system when it is
met with foreign substances or tissue injury inducing the inflammation.
However, when the immune system is unbalanced it leads to chronic inflammation. Host mucosal immune
systems sense intestinal microbiota during intestinal homeostasis and induce systemic protective responses. Thus,
manipulating the intestinal microbiota can prevent or treat diseases and maintain health. (103)
Anti-aging:
A number of studies have shown that probiotics can be used to reduce oxidative stress, reduce photoaging, and
improve skin barrier function. The interplay between the microbes and the skin barrier holds an important role
in skin health and aging. The microbes have been found in both gut and skin, they are essential to balance the
immune as well as endocrine system.
“Microbial shifts are seen with aging and may accelerate age-related skin changes. Probiotics have potential as an
alternative therapeutic option for aging skin by targeting multiple pathways involved in skin aging.” (104)
33
Dr. Cathleen Gerenger on Benefits of Probiotics
“Taking supplementation that has a probiotic helps with the small intestine to absorb the nutrients that your
body needs. So with a probiotic that has a multi-strain in it helps the body to break down and your gut lining to
heal a lot better so your body can function properly and deliver those nutrients to the vital organs, especially our
neurotransmitters is formed in our gut.
Neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin, and also dopamine is essential for our brain function. And having that
right microbiome allows those neurotransmitter to signal more optimally. So then, patients that have depression,
anxiety, or even ADHD are able to cope with life a lot better if the microbiome is healthier.”
• Kimchi
• Pickled Vegetables
• Tempeh
• Miso Soup
• Natto
• Kombucha
• Sauerkraut
• Probiotic Supplements
Probiotics for Leaky Gut Syndrome and Resolving Parasitic Infections: Dr. Bryan Ardis
“Probiotics, by definition when you supplement those, you’re supplementing stuff you should be getting out of
vegetables and fruits anyway. But if you don’t eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, you will be probiotic or healthy
bacteria deficient and you need to supplement healthy forms of probiotics. You need to replace the bad bacteria
and yeast as you kill it off with healthy bacteria and healthy fungus that help us digest our foods and reduce
inflammation and pain throughout our body.
That’s what I would recommend. If any of you have been diagnosed with symptoms you believe are correlated to
a leaky gut syndrome, which leads to autoimmunity, that means there’s holes in your gut that are allowing large
food particles to get inside your bloodstream and then you’re developing antibodies against those food targets,
they call this a cause for autoimmunity. All of them. If that is the case, you need to be taking internally aloe vera.
Aloe vera water helps to seal ulcers and tearing in your lining of your gut or intestines, period. Aloe vera along
with cabbage water. You can boil cabbage for 10 minutes, extract the cabbage and drink the water, seals up ulcers
34
all day long almost on contact. That’s one of the things we use to help seal up leaky guts around the world. That
would be my basic recommendations.
As far as treatments for parasitic infections, how to handle parasitic infections, how to handle gut health probiotics,
there are a lot of sources of probiotics. Kombucha is a very big, popular source of probiotics and fermented yeast
and other types of foods that you can just simply drink.”
Anything that’s less than that, you’re probably going to be dealing with a lower capacity of healing. You’re going to
want to make sure that these are third party tested and these are often going to be declared on the actual product
itself. And if you can get a professional grade probiotic that is often desirable as well, which again means it’s been
through very rigorous sourcing, testing and it has the stamp of approval on there that we can trust.
Other products that are very, very nurturing for a good healthy microbiome are going to be things like butyrate.
Butyrate is a supplement that you can get that is a short-chain fatty acid, and it’s often produced by prebiotics in
certain bacteria as well, probiotics as well.
And this is something that is going to really help nurture that environment and foster a very positive loop-based
system in there so that we are creating that optimal growth and maintenance of the good bacteria, as well as
creating a very good healthy gut lining to where the microbiome is going to be associated with.”
35
CHAPTER 5
HERBAL EXTRACTS
Herbal extracts have amazing healing qualities. By adopting these unique extracts, you are not only adding so
much value to your wellness journey but can also address symptoms and underlying imbalances in your body.
Herbal extracts contain many antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, antimicrobials, and phytochemicals that
have great healing properties.
You may have an idea of how these herbal extracts can enhance your lives, but do you really know the effects of
adding photobiomodulation alongside these wonderful gifts from nature and how they can turn your life around?
I am going to show you how these herbal extracts can complement photobiomodulation and how you can optimize
the outcome of your red light therapy sessions.
Green Tea
Green tea is known to have many amazing benefits! It helps prevent cellular damage, reduces inflammation,
decreases cognitive decline, and supports your overall health due to being high in antioxidants. Green tea even
has properties that can help protect against disease and cancer. (105)
In a particular study, “Effect of Green Tea on Anthropometric Indices and Body Composition in Patients with Type
2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”, it was concluded that green tea can assist in losing
belly fat! (106)
The compounds that are found in green tea are what hold promise. Some of these compounds are: (107)
• Polyphenols
• Vitamin E
• Vitamin C
In some studies, green tea is beneficial for numerous aspects of our lives:
37
and hinder cancer cell growth. Green tea can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and regulate
blood pressure. It also assists with body fat, and lipids and improves glycemic control. The study suggests
that green tea could reduce fasting blood glucose in Type 2 diabetes. (111)
• Green tea can protect the brain from aging
» A 2020 study revealed that green tea was linked to improving cognitive function and slowing down the
progression of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. (112)
• Green tea can help with oral health
» A 2021 review of studies shows that antioxidants and other properties in green tea fight inflammation
and bacteria. It can also help prevent oral diseases and even cancer. Drinking green tea is a great way to
improve your oral health overall. (113)
• Green tea can help manage blood sugar
» Research from Japan found that drinking green tea is linked to decreasing mortality and particularly
reducing the risks of heart disease and cerebrovascular disease. Drinking a fair amount of green tea
lowers the risk of cancer and respiratory disease in women. (114)
Through all these studies, we can clearly see all the amazing health benefits that green tea holds. Together with
photobiomodulation, there will be even greater results!
Green tea and red light therapy are a super powerful duo in skin rejuvenation. A study shows that wrinkles were
reduced, the skin was left feeling rejuvenated, and there was a youthful complexion. Previously, these kinds of
results took 10 months to see; however, with this green tea and red light therapy combination, results were seen
after just 1 month! (115)
COMBINING GREEN TEA AND RED LIGHT THERAPY ALSO PROMOTES COLLAGEN! (116)
According to the above study, the best way, as used in the experiment, is to apply green tea to your skin for 20
minutes before using red light therapy.
38
Goji berry
Goji berries are small, red fruits that are full of antioxidants, especially zeaxanthin. They are also known as
Lycium barbarum. People in Asia have been using this fruit for over 2000 years for medicinal purposes and food
supplements. (118)
Goji berries have been studied thoroughly. According to science, goji berries can do the following:
A study combined a 5% goji berry (Lycium barbarum fruit) with 660nm PBM extract and found that applying goji
berry after PBM had the best benefits for photoprotection from UV. (126)

Milk Thistle
Milk thistle is known for its amazing liver-protecting properties!
• Improved digestion: Milk thistle can improve digestion. It contains bitter compounds that help stimulate
our digestive systems, which aid the breakdown processes and allow our bodies to absorb food.
• Reduced inflammation: Milk thistle has anti-inflammatory properties due to silymarin, which is an active
ingredient and is composed of a few bioactive compounds, including silybin, isosilybin, silydianin, and
silychristin.
• Increased metabolism: Milk thistle can increase your metabolism.
Our livers are responsible for detoxing our bodies. When we use red light therapy, it triggers lipolysis. This process
allows for fat to be drained from our cells and filters it out through our livers and kidneys. When our livers are
functioning to the best of their capabilities, only then can they remove toxins from our bodies. Milk thistle, which
contains silymarin, is a flavonoid that assists in protecting our livers and helps support their detoxification process.
(127)
To get the best out of milk thistle and red light therapy, it is advisable to drink 200mg of milk thistle daily. This
will help detox the liver and maximize the effects of red light therapy. Try to avoid drinking caffeine before the
treatment, as this can cause dehydration. Rather, drink water to optimize the benefits of the two together. (128)

Curcumin
Curcumin is one of the main active compounds that is found in turmeric root, which is antibacterial, anti-
inflammatory, antioxidant, and has anti-tumor activities. (129) (130)
Research suggests curcumin can assist with inflammatory conditions, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, anxiety, and
hyperlipidemia. Furthermore, it can help with muscle soreness, and enhance recovery for active people. (131)
Curcumin can also neutralize free radicals that are generated due to environmental influences and increase the
total antioxidant capacity. (132)
Further research suggests that curcumin has protective effects on our hearts. (133)
Combining photodynamic therapy and curcumin together show promising results in cancer treatment, according
to a study in 2022.
“Curcumin combined with PDT overcomes this limitation to a certain extent, can effectively inhibit the proliferation
of different types of cancer cells, induce cancer cell apoptosis, and greatly improve the bioavailability of curcumin.”
(134)
In another study, positive benefits were found in treating diabetes in rats with the combination of PBM and
curcumin. The benefits were as follows:
• A 2016 study concluded that St. John’s Wort was significantly effective in treating pressure sore wounds.
(137) (138)
• It may also be used to assist in nerve pain, anxiety, and tension. It could also help with weakness, stress,
irritability and insomnia. (139)
41
Powerful ways to utilize photodynamic therapy - Dr. Michael Karlfeldt
“So something like St. John’s Wort would be yellow, and then you have curcumin would be blue. And so, you can
then take these different substances and then expose yourself to these kinds of lights. So a lot of people will have
an infrared sauna or red sauna and then maybe take chlorophyll 30 minutes prior, and then sit in the sauna where
you can buy these LED lamps, just a red strong lamp that you use to hatch chicken eggs, and expose that to the
tumor. So those are very simple, powerful ways to utilize photodynamic therapy…”
“There are a lot of people that have really benefited from them. I’ve had patients with breast tumors and they use
the red light on it and it has been able to control it pretty well…”
“And that’s why also things like infrared and red tend to have a better penetration just because of the wavelength
versus blue. Blue would be more superficial. If you have, for instance, a tumor, a skin tumor, then you can use
something like methylene blue and radiate that, or five ALA is a common one, and you can apply that on and
radiate that. Then you don’t need as deep of a penetration in the wavelength, but something that’s a little further
into the body, then quality matters.”
St. John’s Wort is proven to be safe and effective and is a beneficial treatment option for acne and skin rejuvenation.
(140)
Hypericin is an extract from St. John’s Wort. Hypericin and Photodynamic therapy combined, induced Metastatic
Melanoma Cell Death. Light activation of Hypericin led to significant changes in cellular structures, including
modifications in the mitochondrial network. (141)
Honey
Honey has unique properties that can help treat diseases. Two important molecules that are found in honey are
flavonoids and polyphenols that act like antioxidants.
Honey can be helpful in treating diseases such as diabetes, respiratory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and
nervous systems.
Raw honey is the best to receive all the natural properties - Dr. Jana Schmidt
“Propolis is another product that the bees make from pollen and different resins. It’s very sticky substance, very
dark, very dense. And they use propolis to seal up cracks in the hive and to build their hives and to construct their
hives. And I like propolis to mix with honey. It adds a little boost to it. I also use it in skincare. Propolis and honey
42
are amazing for skincare cell rejuvenation, but they use it mostly just for repair inside the hive. And honey again,
honey is amazing. I do say unfiltered raw honey is best. You get all the natural properties, you might even get a
little pollen in there. So honey is just incredible. It actually helps protect your teeth against cavities, against the
bacteria that causes cavities. And it’s amazing for wound healing, it’s a great sweetener. It’s not as sugary, it’s not
as high glycemic index as sugar, and then you get all the nutrients.
Honey’s one of my favorites. So of all the bee products, I would say bee pollen, honey, and propolis, those are the
ones I recommend. But be sure to get this organic. It’s very important to have organic honey, pollen, propolis.
And this is why, can you imagine the bees going to the flowers to get their raw ingredient of the pollen and those
flowers have been sprayed with Roundup or chemicals, pesticides, insecticides. This is gonna not only hurt the
bees, but whatever product they bring back is going to hurt you if you ingest it. So, it’s very important to get clean
source of any of the bee products…”
“Raw honey, this is amazing, again, internally. Externally, it’s great to soothe burns, coughs, colds. It’s great for
wound care.”
A 2018 study was significant in the medicinal use alongside photodynamic therapy in repairing burn wounds.
“Combination of medicinal honey and 904 nm superpulsed laser-mediated photobiomodulation promotes healing
and impedes inflammation, pain in full-thickness burn” (143)

CONCLUSION
Red light therapy (RLT) or low-level light therapy (LLLT), or photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), a miraculous
treatment that has shown positive effects for numerous ailments.
Photobiomodulation has incredible effects on the human body, however, applying this healing modality with the
use of natural supplements has shown to have synergistic healing effects. Natural supplements alone are very
much beneficial in maintaining your health, combining it with RLT, LLLT, or PBMT is only going to enhance the
result.
Many of the supplements that I’ve mentioned in this eBook, you will find on your kitchen shelves. Grab them and
integrate it in your daily routine along with the Red Light Therapy.
Whether you are suffering from skin problems, leaky gut, or chronic inflammation, your ideal treatment is Natural
Supplements + Photobiomodulation for synergistic healing.
Dr. Tom Lewis: “Today I want to talk to you about the Well of Life supplement line…
I’m just going to tell you straight up, I think it’s a brilliant line of supplements…
The Well of Life supplements, their supplement line completely focuses on the foundation of health. You’ve heard
the expression, “You are what you eat,” that’s actually a false narrative. You are what you absorb…
So what I think that Well of Life has produced is a series of supplements that really support the whole concept
of you are what you absorb, not what you eat. Now the University of Wisconsin did a very extensive review of
intestinal permeability and gut health and they call the concept the 4Rs of treatment protocol, remove, replace, re-
inoculate and repair and rebalance. If you look at what they suggest for supplements in that protocol, it’s brilliant,
but it’s almost too much when you name off the individual supplements. What Well of Life has done is coupled a
lot of these things, that really establish good gut health, into a relatively short range of supplements…
What I like about the Well of Life program is they’ve done extensive research on all the various things that their
supplements have, and also a review of the quality and quality control done on the product production and what’s
delivered to you…
I see the Well of Life program really kind of augmenting your intake of the very highest level, most important
supplements that you can take to improve and maintain your health.”
