ABSTRACT
The solar electric bicycle (SEB) integrates photovoltaic technology with electric propulsion
to offer an eco-friendly, efficient, and sustainable mode of transportation. This innovative
solution leverages solar energy to charge the bicycle’s battery, reducing reliance on
conventional charging infrastructure and offering an alternative to fossil fuel-powered
vehicles. The solar panels are strategically integrated into the frame or attached as auxiliary
units, providing a continuous recharge for the battery during sunlight exposure, extending
the range and reducing environmental impact. The electric motor assists the rider by
providing additional power, especially during uphill travel or when pedaling becomes
strenuous, ensuring a smooth and effortless ride. The SEB contributes to reducing carbon
emissions, congestion, and the cost of fuel, making it an ideal solution for urban
commuting and short-distance travel. This paper explores the design, efficiency, and
potential applications of solar electric bicycles, while evaluating their economic feasibility,
environmental impact, and technological challenges. Key considerations include energy
efficiency, battery life, integration of solar panels, and the scalability of the technology in
diverse geographical locations with varying sunlight conditions.
The Solar Electric Bicycle (SEB) is a cutting-edge transportation solution that combines
solar power with electric bicycle technology to create a sustainable and eco-friendly
alternative to traditional modes of transport. SEB are designed to harness solar energy
through integrated photovoltaic panels, which charge the onboard battery during the day,
allowing for extended travel distances without relying on traditional charging infrastructure.
This innovation not only reduces dependence on fossil fuels but also offers a cleaner mode
of transport, mitigating the environmental impact of conventional vehicles.
SEB are particularly well-suited for urban commuting, offering a viable solution to issues
such as traffic congestion, air pollution, and rising fuel costs. The electric motor in the
bicycle provides assistance to the rider, making it easier to travel long distances, climb
inclines, and handle heavy loads, all while ensuring minimal physical exertion. The solar
panels, typically mounted on the frame or integrated into the body of the bike, continuously
recharge the battery when exposed to sunlight, extending its range and providing greater
autonomy compared to conventional electric bikes.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the solar electric bicycle represents a step toward
more cost-effective, low-maintenance transportation. With no need for regular fuel refills,
and with the solar panels providing free energy, the SEB can significantly lower the cost of
commuting over time. However, challenges such as solar panel efficiency, battery capacity,
and the integration of renewable energy sources into the design need to be addressed to
make SEBs a mainstream solution.
