Let's find the derivative of each expression with respect to x:

1. y = 4x - 9

The derivative of x is 1, and the derivative of a constant is 0.

dy/dx = 4(1) - 0 = 4

2. y = (4x - 9)²

We'll use the chain rule: d/dx [f(g(x))] = f'(g(x)) x g'(x)

Let u = 4x - 9, so y = u²

dy/du = 2u

du/dx = 4

dy/dx = (dy/du) * (du/dx) = 2u * 4 = 8u

Substitute back u = 4x - 9: dy/dx = 8(4x - 9) = 32x - 72

3. y = 2x² - 379

The power rule: d/dx (x^n) = nx^(n-1)

dy/dx = 2(2x) - 0 = 4x

4. y = (2x - 349)^(1/2)

the chain rule.

Let u = 2x - 349, so y = u^(1/2)

dy/du = (1/2)u^(-1/2)

du/dx = 2

dy/dx = (dy/du) * (du/dx) = (1/2)u^(-1/2) * 2 = u^(-1/2) = 1/√(u)

Substitute back u = 2x - 349: dy/dx = 1/√(2x - 349)

5. y = 5x⁴ + x³ + 2x² + x + 8

Apply the power rule to each term.

dy/dx = 5(4x³) + 3x² + 2(2x) + 1 + 0 = 20x³ + 3x² + 4x + 1
