Write a self-reflection on your demo lesson in around 200 words. Reflect on how you executed
the lesson plan during the demo teaching. Analyze your teaching strategies, instructional
techniques, and classroom management skills. Evaluate the level of student engagement during
the demo teaching. Identify and discuss your strengths and acknowledge areas where you feel
you can improve as a teacher.
While I am certainly proud of my performance for the demo teaching, there were still areas for
improvement. For my lesson plan execution, I made sure that I closely followed every stage and
procedure listed in the lesson plan, and I also managed to improvise my lesson by adding an
additional pronunciation exercise, since I recognized its importance for students that can not be
left out.
As for the teaching strategies which I adopted in my demo teaching, I tried to utilize as many as
possible. For example, during the warm-up and language focus stages, I self-made in advance
intriguing games for students to participate, this substantially contributed to the level of
excitement among students, and I also used backward build-up drill to strengthen students’
pronunciation and memorization of new vocabulary. Not only that, because it was a speaking
lesson, I always used prompting and eliciting techniques to enhance students’ talking time rather
than mine thoroughly. For each instruction, I made sure my language was suitable for their level,
with slow pace and emphasis on important points for students to understand totally, and I made
use of appropriate ICQs before each task to make sure all students follow my instructions. For
classroom management, I made sure every student respected me and each other: When I spoke,
the students attentively listened to me, and when they spoke, I always let them speak at length
and provide feedback afterward. I also made sure the students paid attention to their friends’
presentation by reminding them constantly that they will be asked questions.
Throughout my demo teaching, I could see that the students wholeheartedly enjoyed my lesson
due to the games and gifts I prepared for them, and instead of using slides, I managed to enhance
their attention span by using the book’s Interactive Whiteboard Software. My obvious strengths
are my English pronunciation and an advanced English proficiency. To become a good teacher, it
is mandatory that I set a good example for my students to follow, and by excelling at those
aspects, the students will put their trust in me even more. Another strength of mine is a student-
centered mindset. I always look for ways to satisfy students with a variety of activities, in which
they take control to enhance their learning experience. However, there are certain areas I need to
improve. Time management is definitely an aspect I need to pay attention to while teaching; I
must try to distribute an equal amount of time for each stage and not get to carried away at one
stage. Another area I must improve is my instruction giving. There was a moment during my
teaching demo that I became a bit too nervous, and I did not succeed in giving clear instruction
for students for the less controlled activity, so I must work on maintaining calmness and
professionalism at all times.
In conclusion, I thought I had done my best for the teaching demo, and I took pride in it, but I
can always reflect on it as a chance to improve my teaching skills through the flaws in my demo.
