Session 2 DLP

This detailed lesson plan focuses on projectile motion launched at an angle, aiming to help students understand the relationships between angle, range, and height. The lesson includes various activities such as group challenges, paper airplane experiments, and problem-solving exercises to reinforce learning. Students will also engage in evaluations through multiple-choice questions to assess their understanding of the topic.

A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PROJECTILE MOTION

TIME FRAME: 1 hour

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

Explain the relationships between angle,

range,and height
 Identify the the different symbols to be used for each
quantity.
 Solve for the height and the range of a projectile
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Projectile Motion Launched at an
Angle

Materials: PowerPoint presentation, bond paper/

printed materials and pen

III. Learning Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Preparatory Activity

1. Prayer

Everyone please stand up, and let us have our prayer. (Students standing up)

please lead the prayer. In the name of the Father

......................................
Amen
2. Greetings “Good morning ma’am”
“Good morning class”

3. Classroom management

Okay! Class before you sit, please pick up some pieces of

papers or trash and arrange your chairs properly. And Thank you ma’am.
now, please be seated.

So, our classroom rules are the following:

 Be Attentive.

 Listen attentively when I discuss here in front and

don’t make unnecessary noise.

 Be on time.
 Raise your hand if you have clarifications/
questions.

 Listen and follow directions

4. Attendance

Is there any absent today?

Okay, very good! None ma’am!

5. Review of the past lesson

Ma’am our topic last meeting is
What was our topic last meeting? about the horizontal and vertical

Projectile motion is the motion of

Very good! So can you still remember what is projectile any object launched into the air
motion? and it is acted only upon by the
force of gravity.

Well said.

Since we were finished with that, I assume that you already knew the
terms that I will be using later.

ENGAGE

Okay, before we proceed to our proper discussion lets

have first a group activity which is entitled “Modern Hopscatch-
Paste Me Challenge” . We will divide the class into two groups
and each group must select five participants. There will be no
time limit but each group must do the activity as fast as they can.
The mechanics for this activity is first, the teacher will prepare
the hand and foot hopscatch on the floor and paste the symbols
on the board . The first group to finish the activity will receive a
reward.

Yes we are ready ma’am!

Are you ready class

EXPLORE

With the same group, you will make a paper

airplane and launch it in a various angle to see how far they
travel. Each group should record a video of their paper airplane
flight, which will be used as a reference to draw or graph the
results. Each group should come up with three different
trajectory angle. Each group shuld choose one representative to
present their findings. You will be given 5 minutes to complete
the task. Yes we are ready!

Are you all ready?

Okay excellent!
Now, lets proceed with our proper discussion.

EXPLAIN

In order for you to further understand this topic, you should know
the different quantities.

1. Theta (Ɵ) – Angle of Projection

2. VO – Initial Velocity
3. Vy – Peak/ Highest Point which is constantly equal to zero
4. Dymax or H – Height
R- Range

SYMBOL NAME

Ɵ Angle of Projection
Vo Initial Velocty
Vy Peak / Highest Point
dy or H Height
dx or R Range

Relationship of between angle, height and range of a

projectile

Now, what did you observe in this image base on their

range, height and angle?
(The answers may vary)
(The students will answer the question)

Okay thank you, you are all correct because, the greater
the launch angle the greater the height obtained and the
two projectiles with different angles of release have the
same range. In addition, as the angle of projection
becomes greater than 45 degrees, its height becomes
higher and its range become shorter, also as the angle of
projection becomes lower and its range becomes longer.
Meaning, the relationship of angle projection with height is
directly proportional, but inversely proportional with the
range of projectile.

Solving the Maximum Height of a Projectile

H= Maximum height (meter)
Vo= initial velocity (meter per second)
g= acceleration due to gravity, i.e. (9.8 m/s 2)
Ɵ = Theta angle of the initial velocity from the horizontal plane
(radians or degrees)

Formula:
2 2
(initial velocity) (sine of launcℎangle)
Maximum Heigℎt = gravity ¿
2 x acceleration due ¿

2 2
V o (sinθ)
Mathematically: H=
2g

Sample problem:
A firefighter aims a fire hose upward, toward a fire in a building.
The water leaving the hose with a velocity of 32.0 meters per
second. If the firefighter holds the hose at an angle of 78.5 ° ,
what is the maximum height of the water stream?

Solution: The water droplets leaving the hose will be considered

as the object in projectile motion. So its maximum height can be
found using this formula;
2 2
V o (sinθ)
H=
2g

Given:

Vo (initial velocity) =32 m/s

sinƟ (sine theta) = sin78.5° = (0.98)2
g (acceleration due to gravity) =9.8 m/s²

Thus,
2 2
V o (sinθ)
H=
2g
2 2
(32) x(sin 78.5)
H=
2(9.8)

Thus,the maximum height

1024 x 0.96042
H=
Solving for the Range of a Projectile
19.6

2
(initial velocity) x ( sin 2tℎeta )
Range= gravity ¿
acceleration due ¿

Mathematically:
2
R=Vo ¿ ¿

R = range (meter)
Vo= initial velocity (meter per second)
g = acceleration due to gravity (9.8ms-2)
Ɵ = theta, angle of the initial velocity from the horizontal plane
(radians or degrees)

Sample Problem:

Calculate the range covered by the ball when it was hit at an

angle of 30° to the horizontal with an initial velocity of 31.9 m/s.

2
R=Vo ¿ ¿
2
R=(31.9) ¿ ¿

( 1017.61 ) (0.866025)
R= =90 m
9.8

The maximum horizontal distance that can cover by the ball is 90

meters.

There are many ways on how range and height are solved. To
simplify the lesson, only this equation is presented and
discussed.

ELABORATE

Now, with the same group, you have to solve this two problems
by looking at the illustrations; (The students follow the
instructions)
a.) calculate the maximum height reached by the ball.

b.) calculate the horizontal displacement (range) of the ball.
